i have been fishing for seven years now. i used to fish senkos almost exclusively. this summer i have spent hours and hours on youtube learning new techniques for new lures. jig fishing has become one of my favorite types of fishing. just like anything else you learn as you go. keep throwing and remember what worked. thanks to all of you guys putting these kinds of videos up, they are improving my fishing tenfold

There are many ways to fish a jig, but probably the most used is bumping and crawling it around cover. Cast to trees, rocks, docks or whatever cover is available and let it sink to the bottom. Most of the time, you want to fish a jig slowly. Drag of lift the jig until you make contact with the cover and bump or shake it for a few seconds and then pause a few seconds. Bass with usually hit it on the pause. When you feel a bite, reel down and set the hook

Great video. It's great watching guys (and gals) catching fish, but this is a really helpful video for me. I like what you said about going out and trying it out even if you don't get a bite. I've been doing that and I feel successful if I learned something about my technique, my gear, the vegetation or the fish. Thanks for the great videos.

In heavy grass you can use a lighter jig like a 1/4oz to swim or stroke around the grass, or use a heavy 1oz jig to punch through matted grass.

depends on water clarity, but i would take mono out of the picture. Fluoro has less stretch and is less visible in the water. That means you can get away with bigger line, which you need most of the time to land fish on jigs. I use 20lb fluoro most of the time. Braid is great on hook sets and very strong for it's diameter, but you will sacrifice getting as many bites as the flouro

I've tried to get into jig fishing off and on but never could get enough confidence to make it work. Yesterday I got my first jig bite, rod doubled over, and the line broke. I think I may start jig fishing a lot more often :)

Great video. I fish in irrigation canals where there is largemouth bass. I used Texas-rigged-worm most because that's what's worked. I've tried crank baits, spinner baits, and nothing. Today, I tried two different trailers an LFT flipper type and a craw fish - the craw fish worked. I'm gonna try the LFT freak trailer next time. Again, great video.

  • @LakeForkGuy
    @LakeForkGuy  12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That would make a good vid but here are some quick tips.
Swim jigs- constant reel in, fish just like a spinnerbait
finesse- great around docks, rocks, shakey head worm type areas, short hops and pause
football- deeper water, rocks, points, ledges, brush piles- drag and shake
casting and flipping jigs- fish like a texas rig around any cover

Curtis Townsley try a 5 inch senko texas rigged weightless. If you really need some weight on there dont go above 1/8 ounce. You shouldnt really need it though. Just cast it out and pop it through the weeds. Fish it just on top of the weeds. When you feel your bait make contact with the grass just shake it in place a few times and then pop it back up again.

When you talk about making sure the trailer is put on to where the bottom of the trailer faces down on the jig....what is down on the jig is it the hook side? When a jig goes through the water is the hook on the bottom or is it facing up?

  • @rivitted

Awesome. Great video and look forward to more from you. I am just now getting into jig fishing and have three boxes full of em. Now if I had some help to explain the differences between, and when to use, a swim vs. finesse vs. football vs. "fill in the blank" as there are many on the market. For example a swim jig...do you just fish it like spinnerbait and a football jig work it more like a texas rig. This is just one example.

check out my vid (The Chatterswim) a similar bait I have caught hundreds of nice bass on. The snap on the blade can get damaged by big bass during a fight but will hardly ever come off. I've landed lots of fish with the snap un fastened and then put it back in place. You want a STEADY RETRIEVE. Let the lure work itself, us a medium to medium heavy action rod and give it a quick snap or pause every once in a while

I live in the Pacific Northwest where big bass are few and far between. my biggest bass caught was a spawning female at Liberty lake. I love using finesse jigs around docks in early summer at Hayden lake. I have been trying to catch fish off of a swim jig, with no luck. I have been throwing them on grassy flats with a medium retrieve and throwing them around wood in the spring. Is there anything you could tell me that would help me just catch one dam largie off of a swim jig.

LFG- i just picked up a Booyah Boogee Bait and i have no clue how to fish it, do i bob the rod to give it life or do i just reel it in and let the lure do it thing on its own. Please consider this for a next video id love to see a hands on approach by yourself with the techniques included.
P.S: the one concern i have about the Booyah Boogee Bait is the small fastner thats attached to the brass plate, will it withstand the force of a fighting Bass?

My belief is that there's 3 colors that will work pretty much all year round. Anything past that is a specific water clarity sort of thing, and location/forage based. Green Pumpkin, Watermelon, Blue Gill(or any combination of the 3), Black & Blue. And finally, White.
As far as white is concerned, it's a solid color that stands the test of time in pretty much any water clarity. It simply works. It works best in stained water due to the visibility but it will work in clear water also. You're imitating a shad basically so any kind of white with silver flake or anything that looks like it represents a shad is fine. If the water is very muddy, add in some chartreuse to the white base. Highly visible to the fish.
Black & Blue works all year round, very good for dark/stained water. Green Pumpkin, Blue Gill, Watermelon(or any combo of those 3)... all natural colors that work best in clear water but imo will work in any clarity condition.
Those 3, in my opinion, are the MUST HAVES for any bass angler. If those colors were the only ones you had, you would not have any issues catching fish I promise you. They cover all the bases, and they simply work. They stand the test of time. Beyond those 3, it really gets down to location specific forage and what you're trying to imitate. If you're fishing an area with a lot of crayfish/crawdad, maybe add in some red. Depending on your budget, it gets pricey pretty quick... but I myself have simply focused on those 3 colors, and got multiples of each in different style heads. Swim, finesse, football. If you focus on those 3 colors and variations of them... you'll be good to go.
