    Just watch this video, really helpful. What weight should i use when fishing with a jig? I fish from bank only

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  6 ปีที่แล้ว +171

      Great question. For the bank angler you should toss a much lighter jig. I like a 1/2oz from a boat but from the bank I start with a 1/4oz or even a 1/8oz. You're fishing the exact opposite direction for the bank than from a boat. As a rule with any bait you go lighter as you get shallower. Since a lot of the time, from the bank, you're casting to deeper water and working it back up to shallower water that lighter bait will fall slower getting more bites and get snagged up much less. Oh gentle hops when bringing it back. If you drag it do it over a VERY short distance then hop it up you will get hung up much less with that retrieve.

      What’s the difference from a boat than the bank with the size lighter weigh makes it easier to bring back through the grass and stuff fishing from the bank

    Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit th-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

    Thanks for the very detailed video! I have to be honest. I'm 34 years old. I was never taught how to fish. When we did go fishing we'd tie a hook and put some hotdog or corn on it and lose the hooks cause I was never taught how to tie a proper knot lol. I've been fishing for 20 years but I've just recently really gotten into it. before i was just using good ol' worm and bobber and sometimes a Texas rig. now that the tug has become the drug and I've been really trying to learn everything i can, i can say that i really appreciate tutorial videos such as this. i have always tried to teach myself everything about fishing, but jig fishing has always been a last priority. mainly because of the fact that when i had tried them in the past i had never gotten anything. as soon as you started explaining the different jig types you had me hooked as a subscriber. i have looked up some certain fishing tutorial videos in the past and was never impressed until now. you answered every question i might have had about jig fishing and beyond. thank you for the great tips, I've watched this video a few times over to take in as much information as i can and i will certainly be trying a jig on my home lake here in Michigan very soon. again, great video, and thank you again!

    When you started saying Treble and Bass, I instantly became a fan. Quick add on tip. When you think there is a fish on, so you pause mid lift to see if it pulls back: be mindful of the motion of your boat relative to water as well. If your boat is moving up and down in the water and you consciously forget this, you might thinks its a fish pulling back, but its actually the line pulling/loosening in a branch thats now being pulled and relieved by you right back. To use a scientific term: its giving a retrograde like effect. Cheers 😎🎸🎣🎵🎶🎵

    Great video. I will say a couple of weeks ago I did have one ol bucket mouth fool me. I was using a jig beating docks and I came up on a old broke up boat ramp. I guessed to where the end of the ramp was a threw the jig. When the jig hit the bottom I had several real fast taps and I figured a small fish. I set the hook and this 5+ comes up a surprises me. Never been fooled like that. Was a 1st. But fun. Awesome videos.

    actually what i really meant was that finally, someone shows the movement of the rod to make the jig move the way you want it. everyone else shows the lure moving in the water but never shows what they're doing with the rod/reel to make it move that way. not just jigs, any lure movement. thanx for showing how you move the jig.

    Subscribed! This is the first video I've found that actually explains the whole gambit. You, sir, are a saint. So many videos give a brief description, then cut to about 3 seconds before they're setting the hook. I've wondered how to exactly "work" these things. Also, your 'treble' and 'bass' description needed no explanation. That said it all perfectly. Also the brush guard tip is fantastic. Thanks so much for this tutorial... time to binge-watch many more of your vids.

    Wanna thank you for this content. I was just out at a park after work trying to fish my new jig, and I'm brand new to fishing so of course I'm trying to set the hook on every thing, and fish it like a crank bait, and all the older guys out there watching me are just shaking their heads and chuckling as I snag every damn stick in the place. Hopefully next time I can at least look like I know what I'm doing.

I have seen even some of the best fishing youtubers start a jig video with "i'm going to explain everything you need to know about a jig" and quickly get all mixed up and turned around, leaving me still very confused. I grew up fishing all jigs on straight braid and I can feel the jig scrape over a rock, wood, gravel and feel bites well. I recently switched to straight fluorocarbon and now it feels mushy. I brought my jig back and realized I was fishing rocks and didn't know it. I'm sure I was missing bites also. I am really torn about this and I feel like my favorite way of fishing has to be relearned. I am using premium fluoro and sensitive rods but I feel disconnected to the jig now. I will not use a leader, It's one or the other. Any thoughts on this?

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You move from braid to flouro it will feel a little softer. Compensate with a stiffer rod

    I was recommended this video by a Facebook group. I usually fish Texas rig, just don't have confidence in a jig myself. Very informative. Most of the Texas rig fishing I do (I plan on throwing jigs) is going to be throw at dock pilings, and laydowns. Most of my water is very clean, with softer bottoms and grass. I'm taking it the archy style is probably the best bet? New sub, look forward to watching some of your other videos, you have a great way of explaining

    • @BassGeek
      @BassGeek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah the Arki or flipping style (people call it different things) is the best. you put a Beaver style bait on it and man you can skip it a mile easy. Now if you have a ton of grass. So say you are fishing grass flats whatever a swimjig is also a great tool.

    • @Justin.Hawkins
      @Justin.Hawkins 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BassGeek yeah I'm going out tomorrow. I have been bass fishing for 20 years and have caught hundreds on Texas rigs and finesse jigs, it's just something about bigger jigs, I've literally never caught one bass on anything other than a finesse jig. Going to try your techniques tomorrow, I'm intentionally leaving my Texas rig stuff at home to force myself to use jigs for my bottom contact baits.
