Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just started learning about bass fishing & I have watched a lot of videos, most were way to advanced for me. Your video was great, straight to the point & great information. Can't wait to try out my new jigs. Thanks again!
I caught a 7lb 2oz, 6lb 4oz, 5lb 15oz, and several in the 3lb range all within 45 minutes off a ledge next to a creek channel swing using a green pumpkin football jig with a matching Strike King Rage Craw. You are absolutely right. Jigs catch big bass.
since they have that wide head itd be pretty hard to get through and itd probably take a lot of grass with it, but you might catch a fish now and then if youre lucky
awesome I fish along southern Boulevard in Palm Beach. never use jigs or worm only spinner baits and top water. thanks for the tips. bass tracker out lol
Longtime Martin family fan! Love all the videos. If the bottom of the body of water is mossy, tons of grass (primarily in open water) is a jig still good, or 99% wanna be around cover/structure (nasty scary stuff)?
Hey Scott, What pound braid, I had a jig snap off 15 or 20 and when flying across the lake. Is it normal to lose jigs like that? I am kinda scared to tie one back on.
Man first I'd like to say you are the man Scott. Second is I've fished jigs for a month and still haven't caught anything. The water is this dark green color( lake George in Ocala Florida) everyone is telling me to use June bug or black colored lures. im having no luck at all any tips
Thanks man!...sorry you haven't caught any yet...try fishing it around the Lilly pad clumps...or floating pad roots. The jig bites get better in February/March/April/May in florida
I’m a 15 year old new to fishing. I don’t have money for baits and rods but I have a jig and a rod that’s only 6’6. Can that still work or does it change anything
Thanks for the video!!! I have a question I will be fishing a tournament in 1week. The dam has bamboo and bushes and deeper out there is trees what baits would you recommend
Another good vid!!! Scott you say straight braided line your don't tie off anytype of leader to that braid an the flurocarbon leader to the jug??? I've recently ran into Segars co-polymer line we've just been trying it straight to the baits no leader. what's your opinion of co-polymer lines???
ya know I have no idea whether or not to hop it and how the different heads make fishing it different but all I know and care is swim jig+paddle tail= just let sink to bottom and reel football head or any other kind+craw or creature bait=drag on bottom or hop depending on how aggressive the fish are
+partner348 Nevermind, I guess, after watching the video, it appears you rig enough rods, to just use a fluorocarbon line if fish seeing the line is a concern. If not "straight braid."
+PatrioticPitBiker How small of a pond? I was fishing one smaller than a football field last weekend (dunno the exact size, but it's not huge), and I caught a 7lb 7oz LMB. I was using a Booyah Boo jig with a crawfish trailer.
+Vykk Draygo well it's definitely smaller than a football field. I know there are bad at the north end which is also the shallowest and I can see the bass but every bait I try they don't go for.
PatrioticPitBiker Well, what are the bass eating there? I know bass here in Texas eat a lot of crawfish, so I was imitating that. If you are using a jig, and they still don't bite, just make sure you are doing the proper technique (lift the bait, let it drop, reel the slack, repeat). But yeah, you could try something more finesse, like a wacky rig, or something like a drop shot.
+Vykk Draygo yeah the problem is they eat from a feeder, and that's where most hang around. I've tried jigs and pretty much any plastic worm gets stuck on the rock. I was kind of asking cause I thought my heavier spinning rod might not be presenting the lure correctly
***** Where you hook the fish, and how easy it is for the lure to come out of the fish's mouth. With a horizontal one, you will mostly hook the fish in the top part of the mouth, which is what you want. There is more bone and strong cartilage at the top, and you will lose less fish. With a vertical line tie, you will hook the fish in the side of the mouth most of the time, if at all. You will get a much worse hookset with a vertical line tie, although it does come through cover better. Vertical line ties will sometimes fly right out of the fish's mouth without hooking anything, because the hook is sideways. Horizontal line ties will sometimes get snagged up, but with a few quick snaps of the rod it should come out. It just depends on what you want to sacrifice. Shape of the head of the jig also plays a role. I almost never fish a vertical line tie anymore. Its a long video, but check out "Nu-Tech lures guide arms hooks and pull lines". They talk about EWG hooks and vertical/horizontal line ties. then they try and sell you their product, which is annoying but it does work, i use it all the time.
Hey man, super great video, Im a long time subscriber and I love your videos. Thanks so much. I've realy steped my game up cause of your videos. (sorry about the name a kid hacked me)
Sure, it makes changing out crankbaits and jigs quicker than re-tying; but I feel a clip on with an attached swivel affects the natural action of the lure and adds some front weight to it. If a bass jumps and shakes it can open that clip easily. If you are using spinning gear and use a barrel swivel to avoid line twist you are talking 3 knots...3 chances for knot failure. But hey, if it's working for you...fantastic. Indeed there's more than one way to skin a cat. Good luck out there and tight lines!
Power is Light, Medium, medium heavy, heavy. Action is slow, moderate, fast, and extra fast. So both. Power has to do with the rod blank itself and action has to do with the tip of the rod.
I know you're sponsored by Pline. What would be the advantage of me using Pline Flourocarbon vs Pline CXX Copolymer? The CXX 20lb never let's me down. What real advantage would I get in switching to the 100% Flourocarbon?
Flourocarbon stretches a lot less and will result in better hooksets, its also nearly invisible in the water, 15,20 pound floor is good for jig fishing.
probably the knot , i broke one off also then i found the san diego jam knot for flouro , palomar knot on braid i use 12-15# flouro for jigs or 30-50# braid for flippin jigs 3/8 - 1oz both some nice strong knots and dont cut tag end to close or it can slip when casting or setting the hook. trial and error for this game. hope that helps a little
Lost the biggest fish I've ever hooked on a large crawl jig. Just didn't have a pole with enough backbone to set the hook Almost had her in mostly user erra!
Thank you so much, this has been the most valuable video for jig fishing I've ever seen
what a easy, simple way to explain jigs. Awesome job Scott!
Thank you I have been watching videos for a long time and no one explained it as good as you did! Subscribed!
+Logan Filsmyer thanks bro

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I just started learning about bass fishing & I have watched a lot of videos, most were way to advanced for me. Your video was great, straight to the point & great information. Can't wait to try out my new jigs. Thanks again!
Just tried this setup.. landed a 5lb large mouth within 20 mins. Thanks Scott!
Way more helpful than most channels! Thanks
I'm only a plastic worm fisherman but you got me in there fishing jigs watching your videos
Great tips Mr Scott thank you...
Your welcome!
Scott Martin could you use a football head jig to punch?
since they have that wide head itd be pretty hard to get through and itd probably take a lot of grass with it, but you might catch a fish now and then if youre lucky
Football jigs are for open preferably clear or semi clear water, use a jig with a pointed head like a triangle type shaped head.
Skipppppppppin em
Love everything you do Scott.
Grew up watching your Dad.
Thanks for the video, very informative. Question, what actually defines and "Arky" style jighead?
Nice video Scott. Gotta try flipping some jigs, I got flipping soft baits down pretty well but haven't tried jigs.
Great video! You should do more fishing contests and actually fish!
awesome I fish along southern Boulevard
in Palm Beach.
never use jigs or worm only spinner baits and top water. thanks for the tips.
bass tracker out lol
Mike Young catch any peacocks lately I can't get em to hit on southern for nothin lately I fish haverhill
Longtime Martin family fan! Love all the videos.
If the bottom of the body of water is mossy, tons of grass (primarily in open water) is a jig still good, or 99% wanna be around cover/structure (nasty scary stuff)?
Awesome Jig Tips Scott
after watching your vid I caught my first bass on a jig thank you
Hey Scott,
What pound braid, I had a jig snap off 15 or 20 and when flying across the lake. Is it normal to lose jigs like that? I am kinda scared to tie one back on.
Love the vids keep it up but can you do a video on hair jigs or do you already have one please let me know thanks one of your biggest fans go Scott go

Thanks Scott I will. A quick tip Lake Apopka there's a record bass in that lake. Im waiting for y'all to fish it.
What brand jigs are you using? Especially the brown jig you picked up. It looked like it has rubber skirt.
Great tips thanks for all your tips they help a lot your a great man
Thank you sir for these tips and techniques...I’ve recently started to bass fish more seriously and something about the jig has drawn me...
That Mosierboy I love jigs caught a 4.75 pounder out of a pond I only caught tiny bass in
I’m a 15 year old new to fishing. I don’t have money for baits and rods but I have a jig and a rod that’s only 6’6. Can that still work or does it change anything
just ran in to ur channel. great tips.. just subscribed.
thanks!!
This is a big help. I hope to fish with you one scott.
God I miss those Original Scott Martin Rods!
Thanks for the video!!! I have a question I will be fishing a tournament in 1week. The dam has bamboo and bushes and deeper out there is trees what baits would you recommend
Awesome scott thanks for the tips
sir does this jig work for snakehead fishing did u catch snakehead fish with it kindly make some video
Are those Okuma Shadow Stalker series rods? I have a 7ftr for my spinner and best rod ever and worth every penny
Another good vid!!! Scott you say straight braided line your don't tie off anytype of leader to that braid an the flurocarbon leader to the jug??? I've recently ran into Segars co-polymer line we've just been trying it straight to the baits no leader. what's your opinion of co-polymer lines???
+Donnie Smith, Jr. don't like co-polymers at all 100% flouro only.
Scott Martin thanks.
Can you fish a jig without trailer as well?
Short and sweet love it
ya know I have no idea whether or not to hop it and how the different heads make fishing it different but all I know and care is swim jig+paddle tail= just let sink to bottom and reel football head or any other kind+craw or creature bait=drag on bottom or hop depending on how aggressive the fish are
What should I use for lake saint Clair?
do you add plastic trailers on jigs?
Good Tips, Thanks!!! 👍👍👍
Awesome tips, thanks
Do you ever use a leader or just tie straight to the braid?
+partner348 Nevermind, I guess, after watching the video, it appears you rig enough rods, to just use a fluorocarbon line if fish seeing the line is a concern. If not "straight braid."
Nice fishing mask you got there , must be trying to get one like your dad
Great tips!
is powerpro 10lb test good for bass fishing
Do you prefer the double or single blade on the spinnerbait?
+Cameron Peters Double
Appreciate it!
Do spotted bass go after jigs ? I know they have small mouths idk if that stops them from going after jigs
Yes, they will go after them very aggressively, just use a slightly smaller jig.
What’s the name of the 2 reels you have ??
whats the difference between vertical and horizontal line ties? is one more weedless or something?
The way it hooks the fishes mouth and how easily it can come out.
What is the best flipping jig? Want ones with weed guard. Thanks
Googan squad
Does rod length make that big of a difference? Also would this work in smaller ponds? Thank you
+PatrioticPitBiker How small of a pond? I was fishing one smaller than a football field last weekend (dunno the exact size, but it's not huge), and I caught a 7lb 7oz LMB. I was using a Booyah Boo jig with a crawfish trailer.

PatrioticPitBiker Could be. I use a medium action six foot spinning rod.
great information. thank you.
What difference does vertical and horizontal line tie make on jigs?
***** Where you hook the fish, and how easy it is for the lure to come out of the fish's mouth. Do you have a favorite jig and trailer combo??? If so what is it? I'm trying to get into jig fishing but I'm not sure what to get
look at the Netbait Paca Chunk, Strike king rage craw, Missile baits D Bomb.
I miss these types of videos
Hey man, super great video, Im a long time subscriber and I love your videos. Thanks so much. I've realy steped my game up cause of your videos.
(sorry about the name a kid hacked me)
+TheQueersOutdoors (TheLadsOutdoors) lol..thanks man more stuff coming this week
Great video thanks!!
Do you tie directly or a snap/snap swivel ? o.0
+LighSpectrum Tie directly with palomar knot. Never ever use a snap/swivel.
+golfalot1 thanks !
+golfalot1 How come? I have been using a clip/snap swivel most of my fishing life
Sure, it makes changing out crankbaits and jigs quicker than re-tying; but I feel a clip on with an attached swivel affects the natural action of the lure and adds some front weight to it. If a bass jumps and shakes it can open that clip easily. If you are using spinning gear and use a barrel swivel to avoid line twist you are talking 3 knots...3 chances for knot failure. Directly is the best.
is it power or action
Power is Light, Medium, medium heavy, heavy. Action is slow, moderate, fast, and extra fast. So both. Power has to do with the rod blank itself and action has to do with the tip of the rod.

Fluorocarbon is much more sensitive and invisible....
+scott martin
Invisible? mmmmm yeah thats very debatable
+Bill Clinzel that's why he is the pro
Flourocarbon stretches a lot less and will result in better hooksets, its also nearly invisible in the water, 15,20 pound floor is good for jig fishing.
I broke off two jigs the other day on the cast...sent them flying...any ideas why?
probably the knot , i broke one off also then i found the san diego jam knot for flouro , palomar knot on braid i use 12-15# flouro for jigs or 30-50# braid for flippin jigs 3/8 - 1oz both some nice strong knots and dont cut tag end to close or it can slip when casting or setting the hook. trial and error for this game. hope that helps a little
You should be using a medium heavy or heavy 7 foot to 7 foot 3 rod. 15-20 pound fluorocarbon or 50-65 pound braid. Those could be your issue as well.
Love you Scott
hell yea , thanks every little bit helps
Helped alot thanks
great video
Great youtube channel
Why do jigs have skirts? The crawfish they imitate, for example, don't have skirts on them
Lost the biggest fish I've ever hooked on a large crawl jig. Just didn't have a pole with enough backbone to set the hook
Almost had her in mostly user erra!
Can I use a jig on a spinning reel?
yes
Just caught my pbyesterday (7.5)with a black and blue jig. I was using a super light ugly stick haha.
ImHunBun he said he was using a super light ugly stick i think these are like 4.5 to 4.7 ft
***** its like 5"8 superlight.
***** or light.
did you break the rod setting the hook?
Why were u even throwing a jig on that rod probly looked like you had a 2 pounder on every time u jigged it
good info thx much!
what happened to part 2
thanks Martin
Thank you so much
My grandfather always tried to put a jig on for me when I was little. I never liked them because I thought worms were better lol
