    I met an older guy that pours and ties his own jigs in his garage. I asked him "When and where is the best time to throw a jig?" His answer was "Yes". Best advice I've ever been given...

      Sounds very familiar- decades ago I met an older man asked to see my tackle box .. he got a chuckle out of all my lures - politely told me a plastic worm is all that’s ever needed - year round - any depth etc .. it’s all he used .. I fished with him a few times after - and he truly was an amazing angler with just a plastic worm

    I love that Gerald keeps things simple and stays positive. I stopped chasing tackle a few years back, choosing instead to simplify the abundant supply of quality tackle I already own, buying and replacing sparingly. Also, his lectures on attitude and staying mentally present have been invaluable both on and off the water. Whether you're a serious angler or just a weekend warrior, I highly recommend watching his videos on living with a positive mental attitude. You'll become a better angler and have more fun. Peace

    one man's opinion: it's just like a worm only I'll shake it a little slower. also you can shake just the line and let the jig sit shaking in the same spot there for a while and that works good too. sometimes at the end of the bring up, I'll give it a hard pop, pop, lotta times they'll eat it after that when it hits the bottom. if you imagine one staring at it and you give it two hard pops before reeling down.... she's probably going to eat it. you'll see your line jump or as you reel down to start shaking again, one will be there.
    chigger craw trailer early in the year. Yamamoto double tail grub as the water gets warmer. 3/8 oz arky style head, preferably living rubber. brown or black and blue. happy jigging.

    Jigs are the best rain/after rain bait. Throw em around water inlets and outlets.

      TexasSmoking I just did this and holy smokes. The water was muddy but the fish were going crazy. Either there were multiple bass in this one spot or the same fish tried to eat my Jig about 3 times lol

    • @EliteNugz
      @EliteNugz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      School of Fish. Don't worry about the knot. Just use mono or copolymer and tie a palomar knot which is very simple yet the strongest of all knots. Another tip to make your jig irresistible is using THE CHAMP CRAW for a trailer. You'll catch bigger smallies and largemouth. The claws float so it makes the jig stand upright. More bites and less misses. Peace bro

  • @unicornsteaks6769
    @unicornsteaks6769 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I usually detect my bites one of two ways. Either the bait feels like it doesn't weight anything. Or it just swims off sideways, I tighten up and set the hook. Whenever I feel the "tick-tick" it's a dink or a bream.

    Other pros disagree about waiting to set the hook. Sometimes you have to reel in a bit of slack line because sometimes the bite is subtle. Other times yeah you can set the hook right away

  • @clintonfisher4622
    @clintonfisher4622 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I use the same not for everything. Maybe I'm just lazy (this is it) but I rarely come undone be it braid, fluro, or mono.
    I use the palimore knot probably spelt wrong but it is what it is always worked for me. 99.95% of the time if I lose a lure or hook its because the line snapped not the knot coming undone.

    • @thebassuniversity
      @thebassuniversity  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Is the line curled at the end when it breaks? If so, it broke at the knot. I don't think most people are concerned about the knot slipping out, but particularly people have issue with palomar knots on fluorocarbon breaking.

    • @scotttaylor4566
      @scotttaylor4566 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clinton Fisher if thou do not cross the lines maintaining the alignment of the line and don't since down the square not part of the Palomar knot your flurocarbon doesn't burn itself. This requires time and attention to detail that most fisherman don't take the time to do.

    • @scotttaylor4566
      @scotttaylor4566 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you do not pay attention when tying the knot the don't use the Palomar with flurocarbon line. It will break every time at the knot.

    I'm using 10lbs fluorocarbon for jig, is that too weak of a line? and if so why?

    • @thebassuniversity
      @thebassuniversity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      May be a little light. The wire gauge on the hooks will often take a little more force to penetrate, so you may break the line or miss fish. I'll use 14lb.+ and on finesse jigs (1/4oz or smaller), I will sometimes fish 10lb.
