I've this same mower since '06. My deck is engaged. A metal piece, looks like some kind of guide, broke off the mower just after laboriously engaging the motor! Now the deck will not disengage which means the mower will not crank, of course. The lever what engages the deck with the mower doesn't disengage the belt? That metal guide looking piece looks like it is bent and then broken away from the body of the mower and is off. suggestions?
John Lanford Hi John I would start by removing the deck. This would be a good time to check put the cable. Make sure it is extending all the way and the return spring is in place. Next I would look over the lever and idler pulley. You said it was hard to engage so make sure the arm is not seized. Check the belt it should be around the pulleys and under the guides. Nick Coo The deck belt is 1/2” X 88 “ part number 532144200. The drive belt is 1/2” X 95” part number 532138255. This is for a Poulan 38 in cut 13.5 IC sold by Sears.

If I had the model number it would help. The valve clearance is: intake 0.003-0.005, exhaust 0.005-0.007.
