Henry, the idler pulley is bad, you have to take them off to check them, I know you are cheep, but you have zero in the machine. 'So 6 bucks wont hurt you
Your fuel cap is off of a Snapper rider, so make sure the vent screw is out far enough.
That second idler pulley is the one thats bad, as soon as you put another one on it will stop the noise. You probably have one extra because all of the ayp pulleys of those years are the same

Hey Henry. Speaking from experience, you need to put the guard on your angle grinder. Those cutting wheels do explode! 5 stitches in the top of my hand from one blowing up.

Henry, Those blades turned out quite well as I also commented on Instagram sometime during the “Wee Hours”.
Trying to keep one of these running, but the deck belt broke, I replaced it with the correct size, 95 1/2 X 1/2 but it is way too lose. Any suggestions?
I just came across 5 lt 1000 decks for $200. All need some refurbishment of sorts and only 1 seems to be too far gone to repair. I would hook you up for a good deal if you were near me.
noise is dry bearings you need to replace that bearing or pop out the seals regrease with wheel bearing grease
It’s the gases that the battery produces if the cell covers are not all the way on the sparks can ignite and blow the top off
Looking good Henry. Just putting my 2 cents in when you were cutting the battery free you have be careful of sparks they will blow up I’ve seen it happen several times over the years not good.
This Model does not have a oil filter?
