    Hi mamas!
    I have been working with new and expectant parents for over ten years, as a midwife, lactation consultant (IBCLC) and holistic sleep coach. I'm based in the UK but am an Aussie born and bred (you could probably tell from the accent!)
    I'm also a mum to two beautiful kiddos, aged 5 and 1.

    Thank you for posting such a comprehensive and honest review! As a first time mom trying to pick an insurance-covered breast pump, this was so helpful! I had many options (a good thing!) but I had no idea where to start or what was best.

    Thank you for posting this. I've been using wearable pumps and honestly they make me sore and give me lumps in my breast as I think milk gets stuck or something and hurts. After reviews on the spectra and watching this I'm definitely going to purchase this one. Thank tou so much!

      You're welcome Jane! I'm glad you found it helpful. There are so many pumps on the market it can be super confusing and many wearable pumps don't have the same power within the motor, purely because they have to have such small compact motors in. For some mums they work okay but I've come across many clients who find that they're just not powerful enough to really effectively empty. Hope you get on well with your Spectra!

    What flanges would you recommend to go with this pump in case they don't fit certain breast sizes

      You can purchase different size flanges on the Spectra website. Alternatively you can use the MayMom brand on amazon :)

    am exclusively pumping my almost 4 months old. I use the Spectra but struggle to get my morning pumps as consistently as I need to grow my supply because of work from home demands and being the primary caregiver of 2 children. I also have a 3 year old. The Elvie gives me almost no milk compared to 3-4 oz combined each pumping session from Spectra with pumping pals flanges. I have elastic nipples. I got the Spectra about 2 months pp after my Ameda Maya Joy started malfunctioning and my supply almost died up. I had better output with the momcozy S9 for about a month prior to 2 months pp but the battery died prematurely. I purchased the S12PRO but it was very painful and gave very little milk output. Any suggestions on a wearable to supplement morning pumps along with my spectra?

      Wow sounds like you’ve been through a fair few - I’ve heard good things about the Pippeta and have personally tried the Lola & Lykke (although this is wireless is requires a pumping bra to be truly hands free)
      I’d also suggest you might like to try a Haakaa - while these don’t have as strong suction as a pump they do have the advantage that they’re easy to put on and forget about so it makes a great way to just fit in extra little sessions through the day and all those ounces add up! :)

      Some mums do find they struggle to get milk flowing with a pump. It can be helpful to a) express one side while baby is feeding from the other b) look at/talk to baby while pumping c) use heat packs on breasts while pumping or distract yourself by cover the bottles so you can't see how much is coming out, pop something on TV or have a conversation with your partner etc. and just ignore the pump :)

      @@alissabrownibclc wondering if you've tried any similar to the spectra 1 and which you preferred? And have you tried any others that are more portable? Again which is your favorite?

    Hi Alissa,
    I get milk inside the membranes (Spectra); therefore, I wash my membranes and i make sure is dry. Why do I get milk in my membrane?

    • @alissabrownibclc
      @alissabrownibclc  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. You shouldn't generally have milk in the membrane. Are you sitting upright when pumping?
