      Cycles are how quickly the "sucks" happen, higher number equals less time between sucks or pulls from the pump. The numbers I suggested are a jumping off point, but you can play around with the cycle speed to see what gives you the best results, everyBODY is different ;)

    How strong should the suction be during letdown? I was using the freemie, but it wasnt working for me, so I got this. But I always had the speed on high, which was the fast suckling cycle, and I had the suction at a 5 (it starts at 10 being the weakest suction) and sometimes even went down to 3. But I didn’t know if the letdown phase was supposed to be a soft suckle or strong suckle. I have such a hard time pumping, and I have to exclusively pump because my daughter won’t latch. Sometimes I get 1.5 Oz and sometimes I get 4-5 Oz. So I’m doing something wrong and I just can’t figure out what it is. I thought maybe I had my suction too strong, because my nipples would swell up. So in my mind, I thought possibly it was too strong, restricting milk flow because they were kind of swelling up. But when I do it at a softer suction, I don’t get as much milk 😭😩 I’m trying to refrain from putting her on formula. But at the rate I’m going, I may end up having to💔

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Carissa, The suction shouldn't ever be so strong that is causes you discomfort and the cycles should be quicker for the let down ( around 70 like I mention in the video). For the expression mode I usually recommend around 54 for the cycles (you can play around with this to see what gives you better results) and possibly a stronger suction in expression phase as tolerated without causing pain. Having a proper fitting flange is also crucial for comfort and milk extraction. Your nipple shouldn't rub on the sides of the flange and if it is too big, too much of your areola can get pulled in and not optimize milk removal. You are doing Amazingly, exclusive pumping is such hard work. If you need further help, or would like to do a virtual pumping consult, feel free to request a visit at peopleslactation.com. Good luck mama!

    Somewhere in the manual, it says “don’t sterilize in the microwave.” Could this just mean don’t put them in there and press go? I have a sterilization bag from Medela, where you add 2 oz of water and steam sterilize for 3 min. Is that ok?

    Hi! It was suggested that I use my spectra electric pump to stimulate my nipple before breastfeeding (still having to use nipple shield as I can't get baby to latch without) but not sure how or what settings to use on my spectra to achieve that as I don't really want or need milk to be pumped. Help!

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are using your pump to stimulate the nipple and help evert it prior to feeding, just increase the suction to your comfort level without causing yourself pain. You will probably only be doing this for 2 minutes or less. You could also do this with a hand pump.

      Hi Marisol :) In the video I give the settings that I recommend starting with, always based on your comfort of course. The stimulation and "let down" phase is the same thing. This refers to the initial 1-2 minutes of quick gentle pumping to stimulate the milk to let down. The expression phase is a little stronger and slower and draws the milk out.

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course! By valves I think you are probably referring to the flange...the part that goes over your nipple? You want to chose a size that lets your nipple move freely without rubbing on the sides, it shouldn’t be so big that it allows more than a little of your areola to pull in to the chamber either. Some women need a different size for each side and that’s ok 👍🏽

      @@meredithrobinson3036 Oh no! How frustrating! Make sure that tubes and back flow protectors and all pieces are nice and secure. Sometimes even new duckbills may not be functioning properly. Also, make sure you have the correct flange size. If your anatomy is a little different on each side, you may need a different size flange for each side. If you continue to notice a problem and your pump is new, I would recommend contacting Spectra.

    • @sylkola457
      @sylkola457 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The longer you pump, the more you are telling your body that you need to produce. Supply and demand. At 1st i was pumping for 15min but my daughter wouldnt eat that long and it caused me to get backed up with milk (clogged ducts) so then i started to pump for 10min which help regulate my milk and not constantly be clogged

    Who’s that girl at 2:53? Bring some more of her out! We appreciate the humor!!😂 My lady and I have been drinking from a fire house for the last 6 days. No sleep and waiting on our milk supply to come in while our little girl sings to the neighbors at a Whitney Houston pitch from 9PM till 4 AM. The pizza guy doesn’t want to deliver to us anymore because I’ve asked him to take our trash out every time he delivers. 😂 Needless to say we are feeling the feels but loving our new little girl and loving all of this every step of the way. Well my baby just turned a month today got my pump day I got home from hospital. Read manual since this is my 1st time pumping. I've been doing it wrong. When turn pump on I have set to 50 when I see milk coming is when I push the other button thats on 70 and been doing that whole time. Thanks to this video next pump I can do it right the manual made it sound like the way I was doing it was right. I've been getting about 3 to 4 oz every time I pump. Excited to see how much now that I know how to properly use it. Least I only did it wrong for a month. Probably should have watched a video right away not just read manual.

    What does the cycle part of it mean?

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cycles are how quickly the "sucks" happen, higher number equals less time between sucks or pulls from the pump. The numbers I suggested are a jumping off point, but you can play around with the cycle speed to see what gives you the best results, everyBODY is different ;)

    Do you wash and sanitize the tubing the first time out of the package? Will moisture get trapped in it?

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jessica, you never have to wash or sterilize the tubing, moisture can get trapped inside and start to mold. If you notice moisture starting to accumulate, leave the pump running for five minutes after you are done pumping with the tubes on and the moisture will work itself out

    Does cycle mean run-time?

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Andrew, thank you for asking this. Cycle does not mean run time. cycle means how quickly the pattern of the suction is happening, or the time between each pull. For example A cycle of 38 is slower than a cycle of 54.

    Thank you for the helpful info! I have this exact pump, but for some reason, I can’t change my vacuum and cycle speeds on the letdown phase…it stays at 70 for the cycle and only goes up to 5 for the vacuum. Do you know why this is? Is there a reset I can possibly use?

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may need to hit the wave like button again to get it to go below the 70 cycles. But actually, it sounds like you may be doing it correctly, so if you are still having troubles, I would contact customer support at Spectra to see if they can help you problem solve, I have heard they are great.

    This may be dumb question, how long do women normally pump for?

    • @KassiReyes
      @KassiReyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no dumb questions. It depends! Some women never pump at all and only feeding baby directly at breast/chest, some exclusively pump, some do a combination of both. You can pump as long as you'd like to keep giving your baby your pumped milk. :) Since each family's goals are different, the amount of time they pump for is different too.
