Instead of Patreon, I use TH-cam for Channel Memberships: th-cam.com/channels/B3w8ltYiIpSqH7sgjg1a8w.htmljoin
It's 5USD month I think. But I found the generosity too stressful. So instead of closing memberships like I did twice with Patreon, I'm donating all channel memberships to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Fundraiser
    Channel Member Perks:
    - early access
    - collaboration
    - Season 8 “Smartest Game of Thrones Fans” Contest (accepting questionnaire submissions until 3/31)
But even if you don't join us, I'd like to thank you for your kind words and support :))

Seems kinda strange that Sandor told Sansa about his face, since if he heard people talking about it he would kill them, so it seems like he would never voluntarily just tell someone the story.
Also why did Robb refuse to trade Jaime for Arya and Sansa, the Lannisters definitely would have made the trade as Cersei, Tywin, and Tyrion all want Jaime back and Tywin wants him back because he still believes Jaime will inherit the Rock and Robb also wants his sisters back so why not trade and then continue the war cuz it sounds like "they killed my father" makes it so hostilities will cease after the trade. Or is it a point system where the sisters are not worth the same as Jaime in value to even trade?

He is such a beautiful, tragic character; everything that the poor man has been through starting at just 6 years old makes you want to just hold the poor man. In an epic, emotionally charged Sandor/Sansa fanfiction story I'm writing, I delve into his personal history and really tap into his internal monologue. I sincerely love writing his POV and most of my readers feel I've managed to portray him accurately compared to GRRM's scenes of him.

Another line that always hit me was Sandor telling Sansa that "Dogs can smell lies." I always thought that was a very strange thing for him to say, I believe that he has been warging all if his life and felt more kinship with dogs than he ever did with people, they gave him all of the tools he needed to survive among liars and sneaks.

I have always thought of the Wolves representing the Starks. Such a strong natural connection. Like you said with little Rickon and Shaggydog. But also Nymeria with Arya. Nimerya had to leave, to go off on her own because of the Lannister’s; so did Arya.
And as well as those examples, we also have the fact that Shaggydog, Summer and Robb’s Wolf all died. So did Rickon, Brann (now the three eyed Raven) and Robb. Which leads me to believe that Sansa will die, even though her Direwolf died so long ago.

In book 5 they Say that 1 in 10.000 can warg a animal, that's a Lot of people actually. So, makes sense If we think that many people don't realize that they can do that, and do It without knowin

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It says 1 in 1000 are wargs, doesn't it? My take on the story is that 1000 out of 1000 could be. But since "all sorcery comes at a cost" only 1 out of 1000 do it
But even 1 out of 1000 is a lotttt of people like you said. Very few realize they are wargs even though they are part of that 1 in 1000
That's a great point that I should've included. Thanks for sharing!

I love the way you pay equal respect to the show-series and the books, and thus to fans of either or both, this avoids petty and fruitless squabbles and focuses on the overall importance of the narrative itself, and the genius of the details, commentaries and meanings expressed through it; subbing to this channel was an easy choice. Your insight and ability to see into, and through the prose, the way that you then present that and your theories, along with supporting evidence to us in an interesting yet clarified format in your videos makes me feel like I'm watching the show, or reading the books for the first time again and reliving the magic all over again - and I'm sure I'm not the only one?

Sandor Clegane is one of my favorite characters in The Song of Ice and Fire series thus far (going off of the show up to halfway through season 6 and currently reading the first book) and it's wonderful to see him not only get more recognition as well as to find this out about him. This video is very well made, well voiced, and well thought out with a feasible argument put together to support the claim.
If it isn't revealed in the stories later on to be the case, it would be a tragic loss creatively speaking. Based on how Martin worded it all so carefully, I'm sure he fully intends to make it happen. The man may be often known for his knack of killing off characters, but I feel his careful wording in order to elude to other occurrences, as well as building them up, is a truly great talent he possesses that not many people seem to give him credit for. The man knows how to build tension and instill anticipation in his audience/readers, there's no doubt about that!

Treat a horse like a friend, and it will become your friend. You will develop a bond. That's not to say your horse will only need you. Horses need other horses to feel safe. It's a herd thing. But you can have a hell of a bond with a horse if you know how to treat them right, clean them, and scratch their itchy spots. It's obvious Sandor loves Stranger, and has a strong bond with him, and vice versa. I often wonder what became of the old boy. I haven't read the books yet.

Kind of unrelated, but: in the sixth episode of the sixth season, there's a scene in the beginning where Bran has a lot of visions, but the visions keep coming back to 1) the White Walkers and 2) the Mad King screaming "burn them all", and finally there's simply fotage of the White Walkers while you hear "burn them all" in the background, which led me to believe that the Mad King knew about the White Walkers somehow - maybe he had visions - and was talking about them. Has anyone heard any theories about this? Or does it say anything about it in the books?

    • @SophiaR-xp4rk
      @SophiaR-xp4rk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

There is a theory that Bran made him ho crazy in first place: he wanted to change the past, wanted Aerys to use his wildfire against the others. Bran over and over whispers to burn them all, Aerys goes crazy, like it happened with hodor.
To me, the hole in that plot is that a) Bran already knew Aerys was mad, thus not a reliable ally, b) Why should he use him? Because of the wildfire he had? But the others were hidden far north by then, c) It would be too similar to the whole Hodor arc.

Or maybe imagine a smaller loop. If he stunted Hodor by viewing his past and linking present "hold the door" to the past causing a seizure... Wonder if maybe Bran looks into Jaime's past to see the truth of the Kingslayers namesake, and hears Jaime in the present "he said burn them all.. Burn them all... " then the mad king begins screaming in sync, " burn them all.. ". Maybe he we more susceptible to the craziness because as a targaryen, he saw himself go mad.

Ok so you know the song the Ed Sheeran sings in Arya's scene? Well i'm not sure if you deciphered it but i think it's talking about Rhegar riding past Elia and going to Lyanna's side. Think about that and reread the lyrics:
He rode through the streets of the city
Down from his hill on high
O'er the wynds and the steps and the cobble
He rode to a woman's sigh
For she was his secret treasure

And a chain and a keep are nothing
    Compared to a woman's kiss

I absolutely love you for paying attention to the pets/animals in this story (aside from the dragons and dire wolves-I adore them of course, but you paid attention to the horse belonging to Sandor!!) because they all are vital to the story. The show doesn't do the animals any justice. But the focus on the dire wolves, dragons, ravens, Varymir Six Skins, etc, shows how very important all ANIMALS are in relation to humans. The amount of warging is a signal from GRRM to pay close attention to all the creatures of ASOIAF. I always wondered about Sandor's horse, but thought I was seeing things everywhere that probably weren't there but you just confirmed that I wasn't!
I'm a huge animal lover so I find all the animals in this story fascinating. Even the "monsters" in the story have human and animal components. The line between human and animal is extremely thin.

I'd never noticed the Hound cloak anyone else though, although with Arya it's more of an un-cloaking, like he starts to trust her so takes his cloak away. With Sansa, he doesn't trust those around her so he leaves his cloak, his protection, with her. I'm just speculating though... There's so many ways to interpret things! 😁😁

"The dog belongs to no one" aka Sandor belongs to Arya. Makes sense. They had a tremendous bond, especially after the Long Night. Arya is also the only one to ever call him Sandor, not Hound or Dog... his true name. Hopefully Winds of Winter will give us more about their complex relationship. I never thought Sansa was worthy of him, and Robert's comment "get her a dog, she'll be happier for it" obviously meant the dog she used to kill Ramsay. That ship has sailed anyway. Sandor's quote "I hate gingers" is a good indication of that.

This is a *good* one! Dany's Silver and Sandor's Stranger, I have notes on those four in my notebook for a while now and you found incidents with Sandor that I didn't. Put together perfectly, Kev! Although I think you could have included the ones with Sansa. I mean, ok, "Get her a dog, she’ll be happier for it" is a bit obvious, but your catch between Arya and the Hound in ASoS (must be Arya XII, chapter 66, I think) fits nicely with what happens three chapters later in Sansa VI:
"It was eight long days until Lysa Arryn arrived. On five of them it rained, while Sansa sat bored and restless by the fire, *beside the old blind dog.* He was too sick and toothless to walk guard with Bryen anymore, and mostly all he did was sleep, but when she patted him he whined and licked her hand, and after that they were fast friends."
"The memory of her own wedding night with Tyrion was much with her. _In the dark, I am the Knight of Flowers,_ he had said. _I could be good to you._ But that was only another Lannister lie. _A dog can smell a lie, you know,_ the Hound had told her once. She could almost hear *the rough rasp of his voice* ."
"Sansa found *Bryen’s old blind dog* in her little alcove beneath the steps, and lay down next to him. He woke and licked her face. “You sad old *hound* ,” she said, ruffling his fur.
“Alayne.” Her aunt’s singer stood over her. “Sweet Alayne. I am Marillion. I saw you come in from the rain. The night is chill and wet. Let me warm you.”
*The old dog raised his head and growled,* but the singer gave him a cuff and sent him slinking off, whimpering.
[...] He put a hand on her breast, and squeezed.
“Let’s get you out of these wet clothes. You wouldn’t want them ripped, I know. Come, sweet lady, heed your heart-”
Sansa heard the soft sound of steel on leather. “Singer,” *a rough voice* said, “best go, if you want to sing again.” [...] It was Lothor Brune’s voice, she realized. *Not the Hound’s,* no, how could it be? Of course it had to be Lothor . . ."
"And she dreamed of her wedding night too, of Tyrion’s eyes devouring her as she undressed. Only then he was bigger than Tyrion had any right to be, and when he climbed into the bed his face was scarred only on one side. “I’ll have a song from you,” he *rasped,* and Sansa woke and *found the old blind dog beside her once again* ."
What if Arya's and Sansa's chapters took place at the same time and Sandor "dreamed" he was that old blind dog and put the puzzle pieces together (which he heard) and that's why he wanted to go to the Eyrie to ransom Arya? I know it sounds a little far fetched, but who knows...
In Arya's POV there is this:
"His dream of selling Arya to Lady Arryn died there in the hills, though. “There’s frost above us and snow in the high passes,” the village elder said. “If you don’t freeze or starve, the shadowcats will get you, or the cave bears. There’s the clans as well."
But Sandor's dream did not just die:
“We can rest up, maybe find a way to get a letter to your aunt.”
I love thee, Mr. Martin. :D

I think a better unintentional blood magic example would be Daenerys sacrificing Khal Drogo (king's blood, still alive, in flames) to perform the ritual to bring back dragons from "stone" as explained so many times by Melisandre.

True true. She suffocated him first. But OPs main point still hold's. That's probably the best example of blood magic causing unintended results
Grrm had an awesome offline quote about how he wanted the magic to be mysterious. Half instinctual
She somewhat knew what she was doing tho, as she thanked mirri for her lessons about death paging fr life. And "I don't want yur screams. All I want is your life" lol. Savage!

    • @hrothgar8521

I'm still confused by blood magic and sacrificing in this setting. Stannis made many for zero gain.

Love it. Couldn’t make it through all the hundreds of comments so I don’t know if this has been said. So there’s a theory that during the Blackwater, Sansa unknowingly uses her Stark skinchanger ability to bond with Sandor, and in that moment she reads his desire to kiss her (or more, but she’s 12 and naive) and that’s why she thinks that he did, but is confused by if it happened. Have to reread ACOK because I can’t recall exactly what the book said in that scene.
As far as all the Sandor/Brienne elements, I see it more that they are the “true knights” of the story although neither is one (him by choice, her because of her sex), so they have a lot of parallels. I’ll keep in mind what you said when I reread AFFC (I’m still only rereading the first book, so it’ll be a while).
Sandor is likely my favorite character so I’m glad you do lots of vids on him! I never thought of him as a skinchanger before. (nitpick: Warging is a term specific to wolves, only powerful skinchangers can handle wolves) :) It’s very possible he has this ability, there’s evidence he has blood of the First Men from his appearance. I’ll be looking for even more clues to his abilities going forward.
Great job with this! Don’t know how I missed it for so long.
