I am convinced you are the most patient man in the world. If it was me, after that plastic clamp fell off the battery terminal, I would have smashed it with a sledge hammer in a fit of rage! Love your videos VERY much!

why the hell does this guys channel get so many dislikes? from what i can tell he is very informative with everything? maybe hard to understand at times if you from the US? but wtf! your here to learn how to do something and this dude is taking he time to show us. Not many others show this detailed information on toyota engine. If there is someone that disliked the video that feels they have a real good reason i'd like to hear it, i just don't see it. Thanks

also, he gets mainlt thumbs up and if this was rottentomatoes this would be considered worth watching. but for youtube from what im seeing this guy should get maybe 3-5 dislikes per 100 ups. just my opinion.

I love that you made this video. I learned more about the inside of an automatic transmission. However you could use so many more things other than the plastic clamps to hold the small wires to the battery. Rubber bands, tape, hose clamps, small segments of rubber hose, so many better options. It was informative yet excruciating.

HI. I have a 1997 Toyota T100, 4WD, Automatic, SR5, 3.4L V6, with roughly 350,000 miles on it. A couple years ago, I noticed the transmission did not want to shift down to 1st gear at a stop. I had to begin manually shifting in "L", then shift up to 2nd, then "D".
Finally, about a year ago, it stopped shifting into top gear, but it also would Illuminate the "D" & "L" lights at the same time, and would not shift out of first gear . So it sat. This Labor Day weekend, I decided I was going to change out all three shift solenoids. I finally got all the work done and was ready for a test drive. At first, it acted the same with the "D" & "L" lights illuminated. I shifted into "2" and was returning home. I stopped at a sign, put it into "D" and the "L" didn't light up. So I turned around the block to put it on the highway and test it at speed, before I got to the highway, the "L" came on again and wouldn't go off again while in "D".
My battery is fried from sitting so long and old age, and I do have some electrical problems with the truck. My right headlight will get really dim sometimes, and the only way to get it back to normal is to disconnect the left headlight, then reconnect it.
With the lights acting the way they are, and the shifting correcting itself for a short while, then malfunctioning again, I'm curious if the whole thing is nothing more than some sort of electrical grounding issue. I live in rural Indiana and no transmission shops would touch my Toyota with a ten foot pole, so i had to do it myself. Any insights?

However I note that the accumulators are also shown which possibly indicates you removed the valve body. Can I remove Shift Solenoid 2 using your method without removing the valve body?

  • @Peppermint1

Suggestion: test them in hot transmission fluid because these can get stuck as the fluid gets hot (80C) and the metal inside expands. These transmissions usually have problems as they warm up. While there just replace the solenoids with new ones and set the relearn mode

We have a 2006 Toyota Corolla code P 2716 Pressure Control Solenoid D Electrical. Couldn't get the code to remove even when cleared with a scanner. Turns out the car had a recall for a defective ECM and the woman never took it in to be fixed. The issue was a cracked ECM. Took it to Toyota yesterday and they replaced the ECM free. Issue resolved. Lesson learned call the VIN number into Toyota before replacing the solenoids to see if there any recalls out for the car before doing the work.

I feel like 30ps less than before when is cold. In addition last time gearbox blocked first time on 3rd gear and day after on 4th gear and didnt change upper. For lower gears like 3rd, 2nd and 1st changed normally from 4th but didnt on 5ht and 6th. Does can be due to issue with selonoid or something addition ?

Nice but be careful you cross those two wires hooked up to. Battery you have more than a bad situation you may have explosion really like a bomb. I had auto repair shop and only once did a battery explode and thank god the hood was down and nobody was near vehicle. The spark of a loose connection on battery terminal caused a small spark and boom like a bomb. If my face was in there who knows maybe deafness or maybe I would have received instant surgery without a doctor. Really not the way to test or safe way to test solenoid. Best to have or make a jumper cable connecter that will slip over solenoid terminals then you can connect the positive cable to battery first then connect the negative to a ground on vehicle away from the battery so a spark would not cause gasses in battery to explode meaning keep battery connected to vehicle then just put red from solenoid to battery positive then run black from solenoid to ground away from battery on other side of engine compartment way safer. Or hook up 12 volt power source then thru a switch on and off to negative black wire to solenoid Utah switch off connect to solenoid then flip switch and watch solenoid this way no spark safe and you can keep switching solenoid on and off for as long as you like to see if solenoid acts up after it switches many times. Intermittent problem. Any way his way may work but not advisable for back yard weekend mechanic

Have you fixed it? Mines is dirty and I have the code, dont know what to do. People told me it's to late to save to just use it like that untill it gives out. But I want to see what are my options.

Even if it work it may be that the plunger is worn or the hole where goes may be worn
Making it the need to upsize the solenoid

You can easily damage the solenoid this way since they are fragile DC electronics. The wrong polarity means it's fked
