The 2021 Haval H6 is one of the cheapest midsize SUVs on sale. Despite having a generous level of equipment, the new H6 is cheaper than a base model Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Volkswagen Tiguan or Ford Escape. So, what’s the catch? Well, in some ways the new Haval is not as good as those cars - but in other ways, it makes mainstream SUVs seem quite expensive. The Haval H6 starts at $30,990, before heading to $33,990 for the tested Haval H6 Lux and then on to $38,990 for an H6 Ultra AWD.

Will you consider a new challenger brand when you buy your next car? Or do you get what you pay for with the old guard?
(Note: one mistake in the video - I claimed the H6 was not on the same basic platform as the Jolion. It is, in fact, also on the Lemon platform, as used by the Jolion).

Fascinating. The inspiration in the interior is interesting to see - rotary dial from a Volvo (Geely), speaker grilles from a Merc, and so on. Smacks of Palisade at the front and Everest at the back!

In China the top trim price is around 30k, but considering longer service and importing cost, it is still very good value in current car market. Based on what I knew so far, when hybrid H6 comes to AU market, it will be the game changer. In China, this car keep number one in this small SUV market for 9 years! If it is not reliable it could get there. Back to 50 years ago, West customer said Japanese cars are shit boxes, then 20 years ago the same happened to Korean car. Now you can see their performance across the whole world. Despite of the political tension between AU and China, couple of Chinese bands can make really good cars, offer buyers much more than their expectation but with cheaper price comparing to other bands. If couple of more Chinese brands can join the competition will benefit all Australia customers.

I’m waiting to see if the car is reliable and properly supported before I will consider one. Also, the USB port for the infotainment is on the passenger side so not quite right in RHD form. Expect the price jump with the poor Rand in SA makes upper SUV's a poor choice the H6 price comes in well below most of the SUV's in the competing market segment. And it's pretty impressive the occasional head bobbing as you explained it was almost hilarious to me but I guess it is an Ausie thing. The H6 was reviewed here was very favorable even considered better than BWM X3 SUV. Which is a much higher spec than some of the brands you mentioned.

I worked for a great wall dealership before the Haval was released in Australia, China still referred referred their suv range as Haval, long before we got haval, we had the greatwall X series suv, which were very boxy and ugly, when the Haval series was finally released in Australia, we were treated to some pretty nice styling from haval, and a nice range to choose from, my parents have the earlier H6, and they love it. The new H6 certainly looks even better, although I'm not sold on that instrument cluster design not having a cowl looks almost like it was an afterthought, rather than a design intention. With a new trim level available, it should give some nice options. My only issue with haval is, they don't have these available in diesel, and Haval has said they won't be bringing it out, such a shame cause it would be a hit, the earlier model also did not have an AWD option. All in all, I'd still happily own one.

I have drived the ultra top spec. Here is my review:
    Positive
    -Packed with tech
    -Nice looking dash
-Cooled seat are great for australia summer
    -USB ports everywhere
    -large space at boot
    -powerful engine
    -great noise insulation
    -price and warranty
    Negative
-unpolished details and finish ( disgusting cheap plastic at back seat doors and speaker covers )
-doors are heavy and not smooth ( never seen doors open and close as bad as this)
    -seats aren't deep enough
    -no built in GPS
-limited interior for australia ( no bronze dash no door and dash ambient light)
    - bouncy suspension
    - steering wheel has no road feedback and feel disengaged
-Can't be used for Uber due to not having safety check
    -hard to sell
    - not very fuel economy
-accessing to cars features is difficult while you are driving and cause frustration or accident....
    Conclusion
This car could turned into great product if factory address those raised issue. At the moment car factories has upper hand due to covid situation push higher margins for fancy options in their car. I hope cars such as h6 create pressure on other brands to make their high option prices more fare for consumers.

I think you're being extremely picky there. "Unpolished details and finish" just for the plastic in the back seat? The rest of the car feels more premium that others that are 10k more expensive. You won't find this build quality in any other car remotely close to this price.
As for the GPS... With Android Auto/Apple Car Play, who needs built-in GPS?
Now.. "Can't be used for Ubber"... really?... maybe you're looking at the wrong car mate. I mean... you don't buy a "premium finished" car just to have strangers get on it on a regular basis.
I appreciate the detail but I think you're looking for things that don't belong to the segment/purpose of the car, and considering them as "negatives".

We also put nitrogen in our tyres and the dealer put a higher amount 40 PSI instead of 36 that the car normally runs on and fixes the issue of the bounce that you get with your head so the softness is no longer there the same but you get a fully controllable drive so I think you should look into the specs of the car and the features a little further before making the comments that you do. Extra cost for non white ($500 - we chose Silver/Grey) and extra cost for darkest window tint ($595). We didn't bother with other after sale interior and exterior protection. We can do that ourselves if needed.

It is already factory tinted, I think you don’t have to spend money on that. Here in central Qld the showroom has couple of ultras in stock..

@@praveenkoottanal I inquired about that twice with the Ultra (saying it was tinted already being highest model to the same after sales girl) and was told the factory tint is not the darkest tint but standard. Do you think the aftersales girl has ripped me off?

@@truthvenum5468 I think so. The tint is pretty dark. However the front window glasses are not tinted dark. If you are tinting for UV protection it will do the job.

@@praveenkoottanal Where in the Spec's do you know what tint grade is with the Ultra? I can only find under Glass section - Green Glass ticked for for Lux and Ultra. Is Green Glass supposed to be UV protection? I am now concerned if she lied saying that factory windows are not tinted to the highest dark tint under Australian law (that is extra $595 which is what I agreed to having done). Did you purchase the Haval H6 or thinking to buy it? I'd like to get to the bottom of this with facts. Perhaps I'll call the dealership to find out.

Had The 4x4 Ultra for 2 weeks, amazing car for the price, value packed. Early days but I can assure you, GWM are pushing for international market share with big $$$ investment, they have produced a serious competitor to the usual suspects. If all goes well, may upgrade to the HEV next year as its getting 530Nm of torque which is serious punch for a small SUV
