The Haval H6 GT Ultra AWD is a new Chinese coupe-SUV for 2023. It is available in flat Chalk grey paint, as tested, and it uses a 150kW turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine. We’ve previously tested the standard version of the Haval H6 and found it to have many upsides, but room for improvement in various areas. Is the H6 GT an upgrade? Chasing Cars journalist John Law finds out.
The Haval H6 GT competes with the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 and CX-30, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and other midsize SUVs. The H6 GT Ultra AWD costs $46,490 driveaway.
As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct - so this is an independent, honest review of the Haval H6.

I prefer the shape of this compared to the H6. Only issue is the large plastic wheel cladding on the arches which so many manufacturers do (Toyota cross) to make the car look more rugged.
I own an H6, if this had come out at the same time, would've gone for this, as it suits peeps looking for a more aggressive, sporty SUV.
PS John. In the audio settings there is am equaliser option you can activate which makes a MASSIVE difference to the audio.

Awesome review! Got to say thou, fake rear exhaust tips are acceptable on a $47k vehicle..Not a $100k plus Audi..Also, the engine is not the same as in the Jolion..It has a 1.5LT producing 110KWS and 200NMS..

Interesting. I saw a few reviews on this Haval GT. One common thing I notice is that all the car reviewrs do is to compare this car to much more expensive vehicles. They all complain about the front seat position .
Then when you read the comments you find that the owners who baught the GT "loves" the car and feel that it is a very cool car.
Do not compare the car with very expensive cars. Rather tell us how it compares to the competition of this specific model in the same price range.

I'm not sold on the GT either. Had a look in person and the interior was pretty nice, but the exterior is a bit of a miss. The plastic wheel cladding is rubbish and there's something about the slope that looks... cut-off and weird.
Agree I don't see the value in 3-4K more for this. Haval's prices have risen a bit since 12ish months ago, I think they need to be careful here as they're getting closer to mid-tier models of rivals which will be trusted more by the general public.
I would like to see all car journalists be as critical of the Rav 4 and CX-5 (among a few others) as they are the H6, though. For the prices of these cars, they're CRITICALLY overrated and every time I hear how 'great' they are I can't help but wonder what the payoff is.

I have had my H6 Ultra wagon 4WD now for 12 months. I still love it. The reviewer is spot on with what is excellent about the H6 and also what is good but not great. It is such a great car overall ... for the price it is extraordinary. I highly recommend the H6 and I think the regular wagon looks better. I can't wait for when Haval fix the ride & handling & the UNDER THIGH SUPPORT on the seats. I also can't push the driver's seat back far enough with my preferred seating height so the powered seat adjustments need to move a bit further in all directions for me. The H6's looks inside & out & overall quality still amaze me. IT'S SO NOT A TOYOTA OR MAZDA... that's for sure. When my 7 year warranty runs out I'll buy the electric version I expect....

I am based in South Africa and they say this car is lined up to be in South Africa by September 2022. Looking at the prices in Australia, it should be around R500 000 rands here in SA and if that is the case, it wouldn't be too bad and turns out to be relatively cheaper than it's rivals. I bought my H6 GT a month ago now and I love it. Haval wasn't even on my radar when I was purchasing a new care until I saw the H6 and I just had to have it!
Love the styling and decent power even though its the same power as the non-GT h6 which it should have more being a "GT" but I'm happy with it.
As for the sound system I don't have a problem with it as I mainly listen to podcasts, however when I do listen to music, a few tweaks can make it sound pretty decent.
Biggest let down are the seats. I'm 6"1 and sometimes I feel like I'm standing up driving and bracing myself on the foot rest to stay in my seating position, as I drive it more I'm getting used to it.
Also the fuel consumption is also higher than I would like but sometimes hard to not put it in Race mode as it sounds soooo good :-). If you do drive conservatively you can get it lower but still not as low as I would like.
One last thing is the ACC which is dangerous! Automatically braking the car when ACC active around corner that could be safely taken needs to be fixed.
All and all, I would recommend and look forward to future revisions!

This should depreciate as fast as a MG ! - but seriously though can you stop saying the word "porsche" during a Haval review..... unfortunately flashy screens wont hide the rubbish seats, junk gearbox and crap suspension...................look forward to seeing these for sale under $20k in 5 years

Haval is far superior to anything mg has put out , they only launched their Australian range last June and are already beating long standing brands . They have 3 suvs, 2 hybrids available now and a range of evs coming soon .
Biggest selling company of suvs in China with 30000 sales a month

Aussie wines have been hit with tariffs effectively banning them from being sold in China, yet people in Australia still buy Chinese cars? What’s wrong with that picture? These Chinese cars should also be hit with tariffs ; and nobody should buy this rubbish. Come on people ,don’t be cheap ….Life is too short to be driving a Chinese car. I would not drive this if I got one for free mate. Good job on the review as always….

    • @wcrash9361
      @wcrash9361 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Wow u have no idea that China is our biggest buyer of aussie raw materials , live stock and produce. There are 100’s of wine makers products sold in China.
Seems your happy with the majority of car makers to continue to rip us off with their inflated profit margins. That doesn’t help Australians.
No one is making u buy one but affordable options making the industry more competition is good for us. We rely on China for goods we can’t get elsewhere or can’t make ourselves more than they need us.
