This video literally saved my game today! Craziest thing I've ever experienced after trying a new swing tip out. After purposefully trying these three tips I hit every one of my fairway shots so well that I started using my 3 woods off the tee where I normally hit driver! I felt that confident about it...and those tee shots went straighter and landed further than many of my drives! Thanks man. Great videos! Great channel!
I'm a disabled golfer who plays one-handed, right handed only. Lately I've really been hitting the ball well with all clubs and its largely attributable to adopting a similar HOCKEY swing philosophy to what you're recommending for the fairway woods. Your approach and short sharp vids are infectious and I'm a big fan!
Hey Mr. Shortgame, these tips on hitting the fairway woods ROCKED! I did all of them and my woods are going straighter and when i connect i nail them. Thanks so much for you tips and keep it simple and we will keep following.
I have watched many golf videos and I like your approach to the game the best. I think I like the chickens in the yard and your back yard videos so much. You are real, Bro!! Don't change.
Hi Matt, As a 72 year lady high handicap golfer your tips have improved my game tremendously. I like the way you bring theory with practice. Please can you give more tips for senior lady golfers. Linda D UK
I just love this guy he's original, authentic n one of the most enthusiastic golf guys online. Two of ur points I find extremely useful n will give them a go. The first is the hockey stick drill which really makes sense. The second I find very unique n even freeing n that is to only play a fade when working on this. I haven't heard anyone say that n for me it seems like the only time I can actually make quality contact with a fairway wood IS when the ball fades... given "permission", if u will, to do that is very liberating as indeed that would be a confidence builder for me. Appreciate ur passion keep up the excellent work 👍🏿
this guy is top shelf!! golf channel is gonna pick him up...shipping rates to canada are cheap.. any colour ..not picky..would love the story to tell everyone where I got it!! thanks..keep up the great attitude!!
The hockey drill never heard of it before but excellent for getting the feeling for staying down and along the line for every club , thanks Matt love your videos.
My father was a carpenter and loved the brass head putter. It reminded him of the feel of a hammer. He loved working with his hands. And once said that he charged a lot of money for any independent work he did because he did the work of two men. I need to find a putter that will help me with my short putts. I know I need to try different putters but am not sure yet which brand is best for me. People love the Odessey and Scotty Cameron.
Hi Matt. My brother when in the navy brought me bank a baseball cap when I was 14. Been wearing them ever since. Now 62 golf caps are always the standard, among the first to wear them in Oz, would just love a Volvic black cap, those clubs are my "hint" for a birthday + Xmas present (close together). Thanks for your tips awesome basic way to play this great game.
I was out playing golf yesterday at Dyker Beach GC in winter weather around 45 degrees. I had forgotten your advice about the fairway woods. Not playing lately has me a little off my game. As you indicated there are subtle changes necessary to each golf shot.
Great videos. I've been following your vids for awhile now. So much so that I'm putting together a 10x10 cage to hit balls in my back yard. By the way, I started using Volvik balls a year ago primarily because they're so easy to see. My golfing buddies were giving me grief about them. I ended up winning the tournament that day using those funny bright green Volvik balls. They respect them now, especially when I drive my ball 30+ yards past them.
Stay Home! Love the thought process Mr. SG! Heading out now for a round and wanted to feel better about my 3 Wood/Metal and this thought is awesome…Thank you! Rich Z.
I top my 3 metal all the time. But when I hit driver off the deck (2x every round) I hit it better cuz I stay still. You just told me my spine angle changes on 3 metal, I believe ya! Thanks.
I loved my fairway wood so much I ripped the 43 inch shaft out and shoved it in my driver. Now I hit my driver straighter and the head of my fairway wood is in the bottom draw. I use a 3 hybrid instead of fairway wood and smash that sucker. Lesson from this: I think buying a full set of clubs is a waste of $$, rather build up a set based on your tendencies and strengths. Cheers brother, always enjoy the lessons.
I think I drop my left shoulder on the downswing. Sometimes I hit behind the ball. The truth be told sometimes I have, recently missed the ball. But it’s NY air so I want to look right away to see where the ball is going. Fortunately it has happened only twice in fifteen rounds.
Keep up the great content Matt! Would love the black hat signed in orange (if possible) because last year I literally hit a hole in one on a par three over water with a matte finish Volvik Vivid golf ball! And I was by myself!! 😭
Mr. SGG, I know your in CA, but my sense is that your origins are somewhere back east, northeast. Why, rapid speech, hand gestures, extreme enthusiasm. Love the, 'you're doomed!" For some reason I'm guessing close to the city of brotherly love.Well, wherever you are from, I'm glad you are on youtube.
Great video again thanks. Always struggled with the fairway woods but will be putting your tips into practice tomorrow. Any colour would be great if you are able to ship to the UK. Please keep up the good work.
I know this is a late post but the hockey drill may need to come out of your bag since many hockey players are left shots in hockey and right in golf. Makes no sense to me but its true. Trust me. Im from Boston and played hockey most of my life and am friends w/many NHL players and most are left shots and righties in golf
Will this hockey drill also help with early release? I think this drill will help me a lot since early extension has been a problem especially in the early holes of a round.
I’m still inconsistent with my 5 wood (only wood in the bag). I’m constantly hitting behind the ball. I guess I’m coming down too “steep” on the swing. Any ideas?
Have watched several of your instructo-vids, so today subscribed. Very much appreciate that you don't spend 90% of your video TALKING and BLATHERING rather than demonstrating repeatedly … which is what a person finds on youtube, ie way too much talking. Thanks. BTW, first spotted you on a Golfholics vid.
This drill is simple and really works. I have regained my confidence with my 3 wood.
I love all the drills, demonstrations around the pool, yard, and the chickens. Your energy is contagious. We should all be sending you a hat!

Just started hitting a golf ball in April 2021 and I'm 61 years old. This hockey drill seems like a great idea. I'm heading to the range.

Amazing.... Ball position... Wow hockey drill... Holy smokes... Play Fades... I can't wait to see the results

Good tip, I'm gonna mind the 9:00 curfew. And I'm gonna try hitting a fade, although I've never liked going right.

I like the way you teach. Lots of demo. Enough explanation but not too much. No drivel. Excellent stuff, Mr. Short game!
After getting back into golf, after a 15 year break, I find your TH-cam videos very helpful. I am enjoying my return to the game. Thank you Matt.
The hockey drill never heard of it before but excellent for getting the feeling for staying down and along the line for every club , thanks Matt love your videos.
MSG, love the hockey drill, but “play the fade” is the key advise here. Thanks for the tip.

Great drill I tried it and it actually works🤩 - thanks a lot, also like the positive approach in all your videos I’m a fan.

You are spot on my topping the woods and hybrids. With your tips, I love to play them now. Thank you Matt.
Love the practical approach so many just chat only and this makes a lot of sense. Will be getting the hockey stick out very shortly.
You, unlike other instructors make sense! Thanks for the help! I was shanking lots of my wedge shots until I followed your no hinge recommendation.
Stay Home! Love the thought process Mr. SG! Heading out now for a round and wanted to feel better about my 3 Wood/Metal and this thought is awesome…Thank you! Rich Z.

Yeah yeah yeah we know all this.....
But by crikey do we need reminding every now and again!!! Great lesson as always Coach. 👍👍
Happy gilmore accomplished tip#2 no more than an hour ago👍

Definitely Craig, sound advice!
Bloody love your videos. You give great ‘odd’ drills that help with the feel. That’s how I learn best. Thank you.
Ball position advice was exactly what I needed!!!!
Great info on the woods. I struggle with those. ALOT! Lol
Adding the hockey drill to my practice range work - thanks for another great golf tip - keith from San Francisco
great tips for fairway clubs. makes senses. thx
Excellent excellent excellent! Great videos to the point on point! “Playing the fade”!
Good tip and a reminder for me. I find if I over swing, the ball goes all over the place.
Thanks for all the help Matt. Great instruction. I’d love the black hat signed by you in red . . . go Aztecs!
Staying home what a great tip to a very limber guy Much thanks.
This is my weakness, the huge gaping hole in my game. Can't wait to apply these tips this spring. Msg Saving the world one fairway at a time 😎

Absolutely 🔥. Great tips for the 3 wood
Love your intensity man. Definitely subbing :)
Keep up the great content Matt! Would love the black hat signed in orange (if possible) because last year I literally hit a hole in one on a par three over water with a matte finish Volvik Vivid golf ball! And I was by myself!! 😭

Thanks for the lesson keep up the good work!
Top tips can't wait to give them a go
Is it the same ball position for 5 wood and 7 wood?
I’m still inconsistent with my 5 wood (only wood in the bag). I’m constantly hitting behind the ball. I guess I’m coming down too “steep” on the swing. Any ideas?
Great vid!
I lose a lot of distance when I play a fade! Having lots of problems pushing ball and suggestions?

Do you ever "twist the screw" with your fairway woods (metals)?
