I love this channel; could watch it all day. Went from buying my first set of clubs for 100 dollars at the beginning of the month to hitting my first birdie yesterday! Don't worry, I still got a 64 on the front 9 😂.
For anyone wanting a nice full matching set of clubs, look at your local used sports store! Good for the environment and good for your wallet. Clubs are only 15 years old or so.
Ditched the 3wood and now only carry the 5 and 7 woods..fantastic results with both...high launch and great distance of the ground...this lesson is spot on perfect for woods imo
I’ve always had an irrational fear of taking a small divot with the fairway woods, always dreaming of a clean 3 wood strike (e.g. “Tin Cup”). It’s good to hear a coach that encourages you to use the club how it’s designed.
Your videos have helped so much over the last 2 years. Gone from half in the high 90's half in the low 100s to breaking 90 finally this year and averaging in the low 90s. Even recently shot an 83 with a double par on the last hole! That was frustrating but amazing at same time. Keep doing what you're doing Rick. Love the simplicity and production value of your videos
God has answered my prayers, I played Saturday and everytime I got my fairway wood out I kept saying “I cant use this club for my life” and here is God uploading a video on what I struggle with the most! THANK YOU RICK!
When i never saw rick video my pitching is sucks then i watched rick pitching video next day i play with my friends they said like ... what the hell happen to you my perform gets improve so yea huge thanks to rick a lot made our golfers life easier
Hey Rick-have a cobra f7 but black.I noticed it stayed in your bag for a few years. It provided me with real world advice that you loved it.It was good enough for me!Ive dropped my handicap by 5 strokes mainly because of that club. Thanks Rick -I owe you a pint!
Love these videos. Informative yet fun to watch. My 8 year old went to a driving range and used a club for the first time and 3 buckets of golf balls later he wants lessons he likes the videos too.
LOL this video comes after some horrendous wood shanking this weekend. Thanks Rick! The ball too far forward is an obvious issue for me, didn't even think of it.
Admittedly, after watching and practicing the Irons and Drivers all summer... I went with a 5 Wood in my bag. Never really used it because my Drives would slice. Towards the end of the summer I was finding the fairway off the tee. The 5 Wood is now ny favorite club.
when I played Saint Andrews with a hire set of Callaways in 2019, I fell in love with the fairway wood. if COVID hadn't blown my work schedule up I probably would have ordered one. as it is, I've only had time for one round since then.
Great video here. I used to top my fairway woods off the deck all the time, watched a video a few years ago (Lee Trevino I think) where he recommended playing the ball a little further back in the stance and trying to hit it with a slight downward blow. That one tip did the trick for me. I usually make good contact with 3w and 5w off the deck, hardly ever duff or top them any more... but now I have an annoying tendency to hit a push/fade and end up about 40 yards right of target. Thinking it's related to my ball position... either I have the ball TOO far back, I'm standing too far away from the ball, or both.
I started golf this year and 3 Wood is my favorite club with 7 iron. Something just clicks and i get it to work pretty much every time. I have m3 15* and sitting at 26 HCP at the moment. 🙏j
I've actually noticed that when I hit more down on my fairway wood and take that divot that it doesn't go as much offline as it normally would, and in fact sometimes it carries longer than my driver
In my experience that's because I was setting up the ball too far forward. If you swinged "normally", you would top the ball. Instinctively, to stop topping the ball, I would try and rotate my shoulders and hips early to try and correct the club path with my arms and wrists but that lead to all sorts of inconsistencies and yeah more often than not I would hook or slice the 3 wood because the face was never actually lined properly. Putting the ball closer to middle of stance meant I didn't need to do all the weird shit with my hips and wrists to get the clubface at the right angle when connecting with the ball. it behaved much more like an iron swing.
Hey Rick, this type of vid is what I appreciate. You do them perfectly. (Today I'm excited to play for the first time my 'new' 3 wood....Titleist 975d from '98)
@@stevenholmdahl1162 Rick has helped millions of golfers over the years with his thousands of hours of FREE video tutorials and you’re gonna sweat him over showing a practice swing divot? Lol ok
Very helpful, recently tested a few in the simulator and couldn’t hit them for the life of me, I’ve never carried a 3 wood but it’s a huge yardage gap I need to fill for sure
The video I have been needing!!! Now can you talk about drills for the 50-70yd shot please?? Because when I do connect the 3 wood off the deck it usually puts me in the dreaded 60 yard range.
One of my favorite clubs. I have one more tip and that is let the club do the work. Don’t over swing or try to hit it hard. The club is designed to give you great results without over swinging! Thanks Rick
You hit your 3 wood really well when you do these tips, just wondering why you don’t use it as much when you play on the course. Don’t get me wrong Rick, you hit your 2 iron well too, but I like it a lot when you use your fairway woods more often
I love my fairway wood. I hit it the best out of any of my other clubs and sometimes I’ll even swing it like a putter to punch it onto the green instead of using a wedge to chip
Love how Rick explains how different clubs do different things depending on what a player wants to do. The problem is I want to not slice my 3WD to the next fairway, the reality is that I always do :)
Hit my first wood the other day thanks to Rick, I’m glad you’ve refreshed the content, it gives me some new pointers. Just need to fix my slice on my wood now 😂
Thanks Rick! My game is improving from your videos and in turn the game has never been more fun. Can you do a video on how to pick the ball off a very wet and soggy fairway?
The bigger the divot the ‘better’ the shot, right Rick? Right Rick? Tell me I’m doing it right Rick, please 😭. Hahaha Thanks for the helpful tips! Love my fairway woods. I try to use them any time I can haha.
Very timely video because yesterday on the course I pulled out my hybrid 3 instead of my 3 wood all day. I HATE my 3 wood... or better said, I hate how I can't figure out how to strike the ball well with it.
Hi Rick. Always waiting for the new videos. Thanks, great videos and lessons. Hey Rick I don't know, but I think that is time for a new 3 wood?? What do you think? Even a video where you test all the new models.

What degree is your 3 wood?
If you have a chance, test 2021 Callaway Super Hybrid, please.
I am wondering how it is good, bad or so so.
Is it bad I was hoping you were going to top this again? 🤣
I've learned so much from this man... glad I found him. I really needed the help... you rock rick
Rick...what about someone who can smash it off the fairway straight....but cant hit a driver straight?
Hmmmm...that divot was the heavy practice swing Rick. The actual shot was to the right of that and it just brushed the surface.
Came here to say this.
@@kylesala6507 same lol
Was going to say the same
Exactly
Yeah, but most people wouldn't notice 🙂

I'm feel you. I'm definitely in the "bargain golfer" category. I love playing, but haven't broke 100 yet.

A lot of people hit 3 wood and 5 wood the same distance
LOVE that "Old Bluey" made it into the cgi animations! That club is legend among the RS faithful.
I found an "Old Bluey" and bought it just for fun and it swings faster than my other 3 wood. They're hard to find.
I’ve always had an irrational fear of taking a small divot with the fairway woods, always dreaming of a clean 3 wood strike (e.g. “Tin Cup”). It’s good to hear a coach that encourages you to use the club how it’s designed.
Love hitting the 3 wood off the deck! One of my go to shots.
Love the 3-4 min video. Informative without the fluff that others put in, great stuff.

Great video. Video suggestion: why some golfers use a 5-wood or a 7-wood.
Just back from the range and happy to report I’m hitting my 3 wood and hybrid off the deck again. Thanks Rick.
Rick,
Thanks. I have struggled with my 3 wood in the fairway. This lesson should help. I've been trying to sweep the shot too much. Peter
I’ve incorporated a couple of his tips and they work!!! Chipping and putting, helped me hugely
I definitely needed this yesterday. I topped my 3 wood so bad it popped directly up to eye level and it landed in the divot that I had just made
that's nothing. I once topped an iron so bad I had to dig the ball up.
You made sure to say that you were going for a trick shot, right?
I wish I’d have said it was a trick shot
I fear life without Rick Shiels’ golfing tips!
I fear life without your comments 🙌

Thank you!! I had no idea if I should be hitting it with an iron set up or driver set up
Thanks for all the advice! Only been playing a few months, but watching your videos are already helping me improve!
Oh. you just pointed out the mistake I always do at setup. I do tilt my upper body a little bit like in the Driver setup.
good to know.
Wow I needed this. Had my first golf lesson yesterday and this is mainly what we worked on. Thanks Rick!
My 3 wood is my favorite club. Its great. Crush it off the tee, rip it outta the fairway, bump and run near the green. So versatile.
The best videos. I’m new to golf so i’m using a 5 wood instead of 3 wood. Thank you so much for the advice.
What a fun video to watch. I also learned a few things from listening to Lee Westwood.
I’m going golfing this weekend, this is going to help me so much!!!!!! You have the best Golf ⛳️ content Rick!!!!! Much love bro
It’s by far my favourite club in the bag. Mizuno st190 3 wood
I love my fairway woods and hybrids. Looking into getting rid of my Callaway irons for a complete set of hybrid irons, such as the Cleveland hybore
great graphics to help get your point across, well done
Great timing. I have a fairway wood fitting tomorrow!

Great video Rick, this will truly help us hit the 3 wood better.
That’s exactly what I was doing last weekend. Went from hating my 3 to loving it. Tons of net time in my back yard.
Great tip, been doing that for years, 3 wood is my favorite club to hit, and my 7 iron.
Hey Rick, this type of vid is what I appreciate. You do them perfectly. (Today I'm excited to play for the first time my 'new' 3 wood....Titleist 975d from '98)
Love these short tutorial/coach videos, Rick!
I love my Cleveland 3-wood… been in my bag for nearly 15 years, lol. One of the clubs that I have the most confidence in using.
Well done Rick I've been having trouble with my 3 wood, ill try it
Massive help as I usually top woods off the fairway!
My toughest shot has always been to hit a wood off the deck. Mostly mental I think. This definitely helps. Thanks Rick.

That is something I struggle with. Thanks for the video addressing this.
This is a great tip , thank you ! Would you use these same tips when hitting rescue clubs as well ?
It's amazing how much thinner 3 wood heads are now than they used to be, they almost look like hybrids now.
Another energetic video Rick! Always enjoy your content and enthusiasm in their presentation! Keep up the good work!!!!

It feels sooooo satisfying to hit it off the grass.
So well explained...looking forward to trying this out!
Just got my new 3wood next thing I know you’ve just done a video on it… love it
One of my favorite clubs. I have one more tip and that is let the club do the work. Don’t over swing or try to hit it hard. The club is designed to give you great results without over swinging! Thanks Rick
tips coming in clutch... helped improve my game !!!!!
Great vid. Will be trying that the next time I practice. Keep up the good work
You hit your 3 wood really well when you do these tips, just wondering why you don’t use it as much when you play on the course. Don’t get me wrong Rick, you hit your 2 iron well too, but I like it a lot when you use your fairway woods more often
I have my own “Old Bluey “ in my bag, it’s an F9 with a Mitsubishi Tensei CK Blue regular flex shaft and it’s staying.
Cheers Rick. I have no confidence with my 3 wood at all so it stays firmly in the bag. Will take your tip onto the golf course next time I'm out
Man, that ball position on the tee vs the deck was very key for me. Was crushing my 3-wood today off that advice…
The editing on this video is amazing
Great 3wd tips Rick. Thanks for sharing
Rick always knows what I need to work on next
Another great golfing tip. That divot was from the practice swing though
I stopped hitting my 2-6 iron and replaced it with a 3 wood and 5H. Best decision ever, way more consistent when I need to hit it 200 yards
Thanks Rick, I'll have to try this next time I'm out. :D
Thanks Rick, I will be changing my setup n tilt
Love vids Rick was soo bad at golf before Covid mess decided to try harder and practice more you've been an inspiration ⛳🙏🎉💖
Thanks Rick for your valuable tips!!
Rick really coming in clutch when I have PVCS in two days
I love my fairway wood. I hit it the best out of any of my other clubs and sometimes I’ll even swing it like a putter to punch it onto the green instead of using a wedge to chip
i swear this man is listening to me. Everytime i mentioned something about my golf games He puts out the exact tips i need😂
Rick, great content. Enjoy the channel. Took my 5 wood out of the bag. Brilliant when it works but sole destroying 90% for me.
If you ever decide to part ways with ole bluey, I’ll take it! Always wanted the blue one but never could find it.
Great advise hitting down on it and not helping the ball in the air.
Love how Rick explains how different clubs do different things depending on what a player wants to do. The problem is I want to not slice my 3WD to the next fairway, the reality is that I always do :)
