Over the past few years my 3 wood shots from the fairway were so bad, I stopped carrying the club in my bag. This step technique has already made a difference along with the looking over your shoulder exercise. I still have a long way to go to become consistent, but I have actually hit the ball well a few times! Thank you!

  • @alanpershing9382

Watched this last night on my phone while at the range and after about 15 minutes was really hitting the ball cleanly again. What did it for me was setting up with my left hand inside my left thigh and then thinking about hitting DOWN on the ball while focusing on keeping my arms extended. Once I did that, topping the ball stopped and I was ripping them right down the middle again 200+ yards with a nice trajectory. This used to be my best club in the bag and over the years became my worst; as you get older (I'm 65) and shorter off the tee, being able to hit a 3 wood some distance is critical to hitting the greens on long par 4s on my course. Very interested to see what happens when I play again next week. Thanks, Danny, you're the best!

Your promoting the Bobby jones takeaway which has transformed my golf with every club in the bag not just 3wood. The movement of the hands before the club head creates the drag and lag naturally with no excess thoughts to bother you. Bobby was teaching this in 20s and 30s and it remains true today
Drag and lag people. It works.

      @@DanielMaude th-cam.com/video/GXIo8jj3cl0/w-d-xo.html
Hi Danny I have to say upfront that he doesnt actually use the Drag & Lag phrase(as good as it is and which by the way is the best and most memorable description ive heard) but he does promote the softness of the wrists and the almost gentle backswing . At about 4m 30s into the video you can watch his takeaway activating the backswing with his wrists first and then dragging the clubhead behind his hands to create the lag at transition. I have adopted this method and it works well for me. As I get older the wristy lag effect has piled on at least 20yds across most of the bag (not wedges!)
But..... Even if you think thats a load of hogwash the video is epic in its non pc treatment of the poor girl ! James Cagney typically keeping a lid on her excitement by muffling her voice with his hand! Besides that a great piece of golfing history by one of the great golfers of his era.
      Hope you like it
      Dan

Danny, I literally had never successfully hit a three wood off the deck, until two weeks ago. I was watching your other video on hitting the 3 wood while eating breakfast before a round. I get to the 5th hole, a par five and I'm 266 out from a slightly elevated pin. I absolutely crushed it, dead straight. Ball ended up 4 ft from the hole. Arms felt weightless throughout the swing. I haven't quite been able to replicate that strike, but I'm no longer afraid to pull the club out and have been having quite a bit of success with it. Last round out, the old topper was coming back. Hoping this video will rekindle the magic. The best tips I've gotten from your 3 wood videos were to set the ball a little further back in my stance and trying to hit a little down on it. I think I'm getting a little too rigid again and not flowing enough. I'm going to try out both of these drills next time out.

Hi Danny. Your video's have been a great help to my game recently. I'm an 11 handicapper and shot a 3 over par, 77, last weekend. My best round ever at my home course. And have also shot a few rounds in the low 80's.
    Thank you 👍🏌

Hey Danny. Just wanted to say thank you for all of the videos. I’ve been watching a lot recently and it’s really helped my game. I’ve gone from being inconsistent in every facet of the game to being just a few made putts away from shooting even par thru 9. You’re a real life saver.

Hi Danny, I'm absolutely sure I can use this fairway wood video to help my game. I do have a tendency, once in a while, to top the ball, and feel like I'm jumping out of my shoes, to try and hit a long fairway wood. Your inclusion of stepping motion, in the last couple of videos, has certainly helped get that feeling of transference (not sure if that's the correct word) of weight but should help the proper strike of the fairway wood. Thanks again for the brilliant instructional videos. Cheers!

Once again a great video Danny. Today I had a shocker with my 3 wood so this video appeared at the perfect time for me. Danny, you've helped me so much with the videos you've posted recently, I was a slicer, now I'm not, I used to struggle with the physical motion of the golf swing, now I'm hitting consistent good long & straight shots and am feeling completely in control of the ball, thanks to you, I feel released from the chains of my golfing ailments that I've struggled with for many years and I'm looking forward to enjoying the game a whole lot more now knowing I can make the shots I couldn't have before. Thank you so much.
