I have also made your bagel recipe several times. I like the way you make holes in your bagels. To keep the holes, I stick a wooden spoon handle in the holes and twirl them around when I put each bagel in the boiling water. This seems to help keep a more defined hole. Hope that is a helpful hack for someone!

I noticed this about your pie crust! It was my first time trying it last week for chicken pot pie. It was effortless! I usually have to dedicate a good amount of time to roll out my dough-make sure husband is home to handle the baby if she has issues during the middle of it 😂. But I could’ve been wearing her and rolled this out. It was so easy! I’ll try freshly milled flour for half of it like you mentioned next.
I LOVE cranberries in salads, especially with linseeds and a green godess dressing. Nice and crunchy with a sweet and not quite salty flavour. It's spring here in Australia, but I'm still making stews and soups as the weather is still cold and the temperature below average, but I'm looking forward to salad days soon.
That's the main reason I've deferred baking bread because it's just me and my cats in my household now, and I only have to look at a loaf of bread, and I put on a kilogram! But homemade DOES both smell and taste amazing!

45 years ago on my farm in the rural hills of Appalachia Kentucky I would make bagels from scratch by hand. I also lived in South Miami and would buy bags of bagels to fly home with,you couldn't buy bagels just anywhere. All the passengers on the plane loved the aroma 😂

I reallllly need to make pop tarts. My husband used to be on the high school radio show we had and would give people pop tarts if they got trivia right. He LOVES pop tarts, but because I am strict on the ingredients in things, I banned them like 13 years ago (but he hasn't complained). If I made them for him, he'd flip out with joy. A question regarding my Starter......If I keep it in my fridge between uses, do I take , for example, a 1/4 cup, or 2 tbsp.'s out of my starter jar into a new jar and feed that and use the activated starter from that to bake with,.....OR, can I just feed the starter jar in my fridge , let it double, & use "that"?

What whole grade are you using? Are you using hard wheat or Einhorn? I also wanted to know, do you mix whole-grain into your sourdough recipe? I don’t want 100% whole wheat sourdough. I like to have some whole-grain and white flour in there so it’s lighter. But I didn’t know the percentages for that.

Maybe up the flour when you feed it...if you aren't already use unbleached flour to feed it and filtered water....that should help. You can give it some rye flour which is a good booster.
Yes. I love the round crusty loaves but I make sandwich loaves all the time and I only started using sourdough earlier this year. They are not hard to make and are made in a loaf pan. Lisa has a few different recipes on her blog at FarmhouseonBoone.
Have you heard of using your milk kefir as a sourdough starter? Or have you tried it. Also do you know if things cross culture in the kitchen, I’ve started so many things in my kitchen like the acv mother, kombucha scoby, ginger bug, milk kefir, and now that I’ve been trying to start some kombucha again it’s not wanting to start up correctly.
I have not used kefir in my starter but I have heard of that and I have heard of different ferments cross contaminating....I just keep mine separated ...
When you first start cooking and are very new to it...using recipes is the way to go. Once you get a good understanding of the processes involved you will find that those skills easily carry over to using the ingredients you have to make similar recipes. Find some good soup recipes and make them many times...then you will be able to take those principles used and just use what you have to make soup....I hope that makes sense

Funnily enough I do the same thing with your scone recipe. I use cranberries, orange zest and orange oil flavoring. My favorite way to make them.

Can you make normal sandwich bread with sour dough? We don't like the round loaves.
Yes. I love the round crusty loaves but I make sandwich loaves all the time and I only started using sourdough earlier this year. They are not hard to make and are made in a loaf pan. Lisa has a few different recipes on her blog at FarmhouseonBoone.

Have you heard of using your milk kefir as a sourdough starter? Or have you tried it.
Also do you know if things cross culture in the kitchen, I’ve started so many things in my kitchen like the acv mother, kombucha scoby, ginger bug, milk kefir, and now that I’ve been trying to start some kombucha again it’s not wanting to start up correctly.
I have not used kefir in my starter but I have heard of that and I have heard of different ferments cross contaminating....I just keep mine separated ...

Do you have any tricks for memorizing your recipes or just remember through repetition?
When you first start cooking and are very new to it...using recipes is the way to go. Once you get a good understanding of the processes involved you will find that those skills easily carry over to using the ingredients you have to make similar recipes. Find some good soup recipes and make them many times...then you will be able to take those principles used and just use what you have to make soup....I hope that makes sense
@@FarmhouseonBoone Yes, that makes perfect sense…I probably should’ve said baking recipes cause those are hard for me to remember-3/4 C sugar, 2 Tbs butter, etc…but the more I use recipes, the more I remember, for sure! 😙

Just make as many batches as your family eats.
I make what my family needs.
