Had my M140i since 2019 (it's a 2017 model), and I can't think of anything which can replace it. Yes it's not the best handling, but it's not 'bad' as the haters who love to bash these cars, would say. It's brilliant as a daily, comfortable, smooth, and fuel efficient. With a bit of tuning, they are wild, and a little bit unruly. Mines 455bhp and it just makes me grin. Love it.
I had a Alpine white 3door zf in 2016, wasn’t bad but seriously overrated. chassis is shocking and barely capable with stock power. After nearly two years I had ended up spending a lot on suspension parts, Birds b1 dampers, m3 control arms, subframe bushes, lsd and still wasn’t happy with it. It really struggled on the roads around me in the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire area. Ended up moving to a M2 with Lichfield ast kit, that’s been a right laugh, composed direct and gives so much more confidence.
@@lloyd.8272 90% of the reviews I have read about the M2, say that it isn't that brilliant as an M car, regarding handling. If I wanted something safe I'd have bought an AWD RS3, A45s, Golf R, etc, you can launch those things with one hand on the wheel, time & time again. I can strongly recommend doing the shocks at performanceM while you’re doing the springs and spacers….. makes a huge difference. The first time you hit a long high speed bend you’ll know you’ve done the right thing!
In the same boat. I have a manual 140i and I love it. I never considered specs, test drove an auto with all the bells and whistles but i didnt like it. Now I want to move to the M2/M2C and give it a go. I know i'll regret letting go of the manual though. Decisions, deciscions.
If you really dislike auto's then fair enough. But for an automatic box, the ZF8 is probably the best there is. Strong, smooth, and always in the right gear. And with a remap (xHP3 for example), they change gear just as fast as any DCT.
I moved from a 8zf m140 to manual m2. I Absolutely love it. It’s got the Lichfield ast kit and stage2 + and flex fuel and it perfect. Right balance of performance and composure for Uk roads.
Weird to listen to ya. I also bought my car when I was 24. M135i F21 2012 reg. In manual but with the same colour. First car too, since I couldn't afford to even do my test until I finished uni. It's a magical car.
M-lites are the best value aren’t they! My mum owned the original M135 like yours when it was new and I remember it feeling like a rocket as a little kid in the passenger seat haha
Whilst I’m 10 years older than you I’ve had a similar car history owning various E46’s before stepping into an M235i and then an M4 before realising I was being too greedy as my wages and responsibilities grew, got rid and stepped back into an M240 which I should have kept. Family then grew and I ventured over to the dark side buying an Audi S5 - long story short on that the engine blew and I had to fit a replacement engine. Sold the S5 once fixed and now back in an M140 😅
@@deanfallon7383 very different feeling cars. S5 was absolutely planted with 4WD but the engine, whilst similar power on stock levels, didn’t feel as keen to rev out or strong higher up in the rev range. Also the S5 suffered major engine failure (was a 2017 car) with 40k miles on it. Ended up costing me north of £7,500 to fit a new engine and Audi customer service was shocking to say the least. I’ll stick to BMW moving forward but that’s just my experience
Thanks mate. I usually have hypersmooth on but it was creating a weird sway on previous videos so I tried it off for this but yeah defo going on for future POV videos 👍
I would love one of these but right now my budget wont go that far. As for all 1 series i think they should only be 3 door i have a 2009 116i 3 door with the m sport body extras. it looks great but they are too small for 5 doors i just dont think they look right at all. My only gripe is the frameless windows sticking to the rubber seal in freezing conditions. Anybody know a cure for that ?.
I completely agree the 3 door has much better proportions. The windows freezing up really annoys me too I don’t know anything for sure but I’m certain I’ve heard there are lubricants which can stop this happening. I usually use lukewarm tap water to unstick the windows
@@Blakey748 Thanks for the reply dude. I love the M240i. I just prefer the looks of the 140 and the 240 never got a shadow edition spec so it’s harder to find one with all the same optional equipment added.
How do you find the business nav? I’m looking at getting a 140 in the coming months and as you know the pro nav adds an extra couple of grand and I always thought I’d need the pro nav. I know it can be retrofitted that’s an option
There isn’t any actual functionality that I used on my previous cars with pro nav that I don’t have on this system so I’m finding it fine. But the pro nav does make the whole interior feel more expensive and higher quality both the bigger screen and bigger controller have a higher quality feel to them
Hi mate, you mentioned the cars on finance. Is this PCP or HP & what are the rules on modifying the car when you don’t own it? Looking into options for myself. Thanks in advance 🤝🏼
Hi mate. You can modify a car on finance with the finance providers consent. You just need to okay anything with them basically. Usually, anything reversible they’re okay with
I pretty much changed the full suspension, diff ect under warranty when the car was less than a year old. Bmw didn’t mind or mention it on the service. Returned it back to stock when I traded it in to them. 🤷♂️
GPF stands for Gasoline Particulate Filter. In around June 2018 BMW added this to the exhaust to pass the latest EU emissions regs. It kills some of the sound from the exhaust in the cars fitted with it. This is the standard Pre-GPF exhaust yes!
