Just got mine yesterday with 460bhp😊😊😊. Took the family for a drive today. Girlfriend got so mad 😂😂😂 with the hard pull but the kids loved it. I don't need to drink coffee in the morning anymore. I just do a hard pull and should keep awake for a while and with a smile on my face!
Had mine from new 2019. Spent more time keeping it in pristine condition than actually driving it.😀I know I should drive it more but I just looking at a gleaming straight six B58 engine. Should be getting to the 8,000 mile mark later this year!
@@JamesGlenCarSales1982 Definitely recommend doing ASAP! Feels crazy throwing so much money in a car to make it adequate, but I wish I did it much earlier.
This is not true. Dyno figures are very varied, and it's extremely easy to 'inflate' them. I had a mint, 14,200 mile 2017 M140i, and took it to a specialist tuning company with a reputation for very accurate (and heart breaking dyno figures) day on the rolling road and a remap. My car made 336bhp standard, and BMW quote 335bhp (NOT 340 as you stated). After 12 runs on the dyno and map tweaks it made 411bhp/576nm. I took it back a few months later, and had a 200 cell Wager sports cat fitted, and the map tweaked, and it made 455bhp/634nm. This is a true and realistic figure. Many tuners bulsheet figures to sell tuning packages, but it's scientifically impossible for a standard B58 (not the tu engine), to make more than 420bhp from a remap. dozens of companies claim 440+ and it's bullsheet. They allow the car to ride the rollers a bit, increasing the figures, they use an optimistic correction ratio (from torque to bhp : as only torque can be measured, and bhp is a conversion), some even put the ambient air temp sensor for the dyno in a cup of tea, which gives even higher figures. A guy on youtube showed all the tricks and got a dyno to read over 500bhp for a simple remap on an M140i, to prove how easy it is to bullsheet figures.
ZF is excellent but having had an M135i auto I now have an M140i manual. Not as fast, more on fuel and tax yet its so much fun and involving. Has the auto blip on the down shifts which I love. Definitely a future classic.
I don't blame you! Without going M2, there really isn't much else that delivers what the M135/140 does in terms of power, sound, excitement and usability.
@@JamesGlenCarSales1982 yes indeed I looked at an M2 but the insurance has rocketed over the last year, cant justify it right now...im 40 with 21 years no claims or points and cheapest is still over a grand! I live in decent area too 😆

340bhp standard but mine and a few others dyno'd at 370bhp on dyno before being mapped aha. One of the best modern RWD 6 pots for the money. Wont be getting rid of mine anytime soon!
Another great vid, Stephen! Had an M140i for 11 months and 12k miles (about 6 years ago). It was a commuter but capable of some fun when the mood/situation took. Completely agree on the diff, or lack of, as standard - they're crying out for one to make the most of that engine. Fyi, they're 335 hp standard so you can let Spencer know he has some homework to do as well ;) Paul
Thanks for the encouragement Paul! Getting into a bit more of a flow with them. I hope! Yeah, they're fantastic bits of kit, and really do benefit from a diff. Weird how so many just go for more power first, and totally ignore the diff!
Brilliant car i have one myself but them injectors on the B58 are so tappy when excelerating up to 2k, i thought something was wrong with it as in piston slap but they all sound like it.
Had an M140i for 4 years, spent thousands on it, engine tuning to 455bhp/634nm with a Wagner 200 cell sports cat, BMW M Performance brakes, wheel refurb, the best tyres, ZF box service, it had a big engine service every 7000 miles, it was a very fast car in a straight line, and a comfortable smooth daily driver, practical, and economical too. I thought it was a brilliant car. Unfortunately it's biggest flaw, it's suspension and handling, caused me to have a big moment in traction off mode, and I left the road backwards and wrote it off. I bought a low mileage, 1 owner OG M2. It's standard (so slower than the M140i) but wow, it's a much better car in every other way. Looks better, sounds better, brakes better, handles better, corners better, steering is much better, seats better, and I don't miss the m140i one bit. Great cars, but the M135i are now falling into chav territory, and I can see the M1240i following suit in a couple of years. Just like the Impreza Sti, once they get super cheap like 7 grand maybe less, they wil get bought by idiots andl be chavved up, thrashed and ruined, and then in about 20 years hardly any will survive, and the ones that do survive will be worth decent money (if standard). The OG M2 however, I think will never drop below 20 grand, and when it dips to that amount, it will then start to rise and just keep going up, and be worth a fortune.
Totally agree with you on the step up to M2 I actually prefer the character of the N55 over the B58 (only just). The M140s can be made to be savagely quick, but ultimately limited by the chassis. Still a great car for the money and endlessly reliable.
I love mine ( that I bought from you 😂) , I’ve got a stage 1 on it , just can’t use full power in the wet , apart from that traction isn’t too bad unless your behaving like a total clown . 420 bhp in a car as small is this magic. Performance is off the scale but I still get mid 30s mpg If you ask me it doesn’t get much better at this price point .
The B58 block was knocking out 450 bhp standard at the BMW factory and it’s only the ECU that locks it down to 340 HP. The reason for locking it down was to stop it treading on the toes of the M2/M3/M4 and affecting sales of the full fat M cars. Just picked up one of the last August 2018 (non PPF) manual shadow editions today with 43k on the clock with Pro Nav and the usual extras for £16300 from a BMW dealer. Bargain in my opinion.
Thats very interesting Brian! I knew it was a power house of an engine, but didn't know it made 450 out the gate!! Thats a cheap car you've bought - enjoy !
Question to all the people that sold theirs, why so? I'm currently in the market for one (2018+) but there seem to be almost none that had not been preowned by two or more people while having only sub 70.000 km on the clock. Most extreme I saw was three owners and 24.000 km.
Hi, we see high performance cars with 3/4 owners at 4/5 years old all the time. It makes securing stock a challenge, as we have to say no to a lot of the cars offered. It's purely down to petrol heads working their way through their buck lists cars, and many only hold on to them for 1/2 years and move on to the next car on the list. Porsches are the worst! Stephen
Enjoy it Jamie! Yes, the manuals are thin on the ground, but a great package. There really isn't much else out there like them. Stay on your toes! They're lively little buggers!!!

My friend bought this one. He's 49! :) Age really shouldn't impact what car you have. If you want XX car, you should just go ahead and buy it. It's nothing to do with anyone else! 👍 Prime example - I bought by bright Orange Boxster from a 70yr old!
M140i won't be a valuable classic because they made too many. Much the same reason why old golf gti are still cheap. Volume kills residual whatever car it is.
hmmmmm... I disagree. It will just take longer. There were 22000 S2 Escort RS Turbos, vs 33000 M140i If it can happen to an Escort, it can definitely happen to the last Straight-6 BMW 1 Series ever made. We'll need to catch up in 20yrs and see who was right 👍
I think that b58 coupled with that zf 8 speed gear box is something very special that drivetrain is probably the best there is right now IAM going to driving mine till IAM old and grey and it will probably last that long as well😅😅
