Steam is the way to go for a dirty engine. Do that a couple times a year and it stays easy to clean so that you don't have to so as much work. My 2020 surprises people at how clean it is. Don't let it get so bad it becomes a pain to do.
Here in the snow belt cleaning the engine bay is a must. Lots of people don't take the time and parts start getting rusty. That is why you see so many rusty cars in states like Michigan where I live.
