I just wipe down engine bays with a damp towel that has been dunked in the cleaning bucket. So the towel is only damp and you can wipe it over most surfaces and you are getting a 90% improvement with very little risk of issues. The worst I’ve suffered is knock a plug off which is an easy fix once you find which plug was knocked.
A clean engine bay helps find issues before they become problems. Same with a normal wash, It gives you the time to look for issues like leaking suspension, brakes, rust loose parts etc.
Great
This is the way
I don't know about your car, but in my 50 year lifespan, I've never been able to check the brakes from the engine compartment.
In a transport truck, you can check front brakes and suspension with the hood open
That's pretty much the way I've done my engine bays for years now
As usual, great tutorial guys! Keep them coming and i will keep on watching and learning!
Thanks! Will do!
Awesome presentation as always. I have been detailing my engine bays for over thirty five years. Have to try quick beads with next maintenance detail.
Awesome, please let us know how it goes!
I'm sorry I missed the premiere but I really enjoyed this!
I have not done an engine bay, still a little hesitant
Can't go wrong with quick beads!
No worries!
You guys held me become a more educated detailer thank you from Guyana guys
Thank you.
Wow, I give you guys credit. I’m over here cringing good job guys.💪🏼💪🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you.
DIY, great job, enjoyed thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Looking forward to the video I hope you take the fear Out of most people when they think it's impossible to clean an engine. I myself have done my fair share of engine details never once have I had a problem 🎉😊😊
Thank you
Plus, u destroy/makes u aware of any rodents & nests. And I feel a greasy engine is like frying an egg. Once u clean, u just rinse occasionally.
True
Thanks guys! Great video
Thanks for watching!
Oh THANK YOU. I was going to ask this question in your FB group, but you had it here already
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, just used rinseless wash to clean my interior. Never thought of using it if it weren't for your videos. Thank you, it did the job fantastic and left a perfect OEM finish. Any tips for removing scuff marks on glove box door?
Unfortunately a scuff isn’t easy to fix
How do you guys like the IK inflator for your foamer?
Thanks for the current engine detail methodology demo!
This is one from Amazon
@@diydetailofficial ah, ok. Thanks!
Great demonstration and great timing… I was going to ask you about engine bay cleaning. So thanks for posting this. One question quick beads vs ceramic gloss?? I haven’t purchased quick beads… looks like it has more use than I expected.
It’s quite versatile
They are both incredible products. I like using both together. But the spray & rinse does make Quick Beads more versatile.
I was just thinking about cleaning my engine bay. You guys are just awesome and this video is perfect timing. For the foam, are you using 8 oz of All Clean already diluted 15:1, or the concentrate? Thanks Yvan and Nick!
The concentrate.
Great learning video again! Thanks! When do you apply trim or plastic coating solution?
We used DIY Detail Quick Beads instead of a dressing
Y’all are crushing it. Appreciate the videos and exceptional products.
Can you provide some light on quick beads, in regards to would “better” results and longevity come from cleaning, rinsing, blower dry, THEN quick beads, and followed with final rinse and dry.
Regardless of engine bay or exterior, I am curious if applied to a cleans dry surface is the wrong approach! I know it is water activated chemistry. But is that water activation needed when it is applied or just when rinsed…..or both?
You want to apply DIY Detail Quick Beads to a wet surface when possible.
😂😂😂 And now the real test. Does it start? My thoughts exactly. Great video guys! Spray on sealants are the best!
Thank you..
Great video
Homies 💥👌🏽
Thank you sir!
We also use a degreaser. Then we spray the engine. We avoid the areas that need to be, but our engines are clean. Actually went to a customer weeks after we did the engine and it was still good to go.
Great!
I hadn't considered using All Clean for the engine bay. Thank you for the demonstration. I'd been using the cheap can degreaser when doing engine bays on the Jeep and the Ram. To reduce water, I use a two way siphon hose with the air compressor to reduce water. It's a cheap attachment purchasable at Amazon. I also didn't know that you could use ceramic under the hood. Learned alot watching this!
Thank you.
Going to be doing a few engine bays soon, in the past I used motorplast as a topper after cleaning. If I use quick beads would you suggest to skip that and just use quick beads or could I use the motorplast and then add quick beads on top of that to have it repel dust better?
Just DIY Detail Quick Beads
Great combination in the foamer, but the water hose is safe as long as not getting up close to electrical connections or air intake. I do use a pressure washer but 40-degree tip and 3-feet away or just turn PW off and use hose pressure to lightly rinse
Nice
Hello! Enjoy your engine bay detailing video. Quick question, i have a 23 Toyota Camry hybrid that has high voltage cables in the engine bay. Do you think it is safe to clean the engine bay without any electrical hazard?
Check with your dealer
Also thinking about using your products exclusively. I have one fav from one brand, two from another, etc. Have not tried all your products. But the ones I have tried are 10 out of 10. So keeping orders simple and not chasing the never ending quest to find the “best” might be right up my alley.
I know your response 😂, but wanted to share. Let’s call this the opposite of an employee once asking the csuite at a town hall “Should I put all my money in ENRON stock?”
We would be very honoured.
Neat tutorial on a neat little car. Would you say engine bay detailing is beyond something like a rinseless wash or a chemical that cleans primarily by emulsification?
If done regularly, it works great
Great video. Could you still apply a dressing to the plastic so it shines and apply quick beads on top to reduce the dirt?
DIY Detail Quick Beads first, dressing last
Can you clean an engine like that on a 2019 Edge SEL? Is there something that should be covered first?
Be careful and you will be fine.
Will a regular sprayer work? Will it foam up? I have a ryobi power chemical sprayer
Yes
A dirty battery could actually discharge on its own too so, cleaning the engine and top of battery is essential. You guys never cease to amaze me. Another great instructional video
Thank you.
Please explain HOW?
Please explain HOW?
Nice job. But should i unplug the battery and cover the alternator? Or is safe for new cars? I use normally all clean with microfiber clothes.? But i feel with water better.
No need
Just think, if you owned an old Harley, the oil would just slide right off the engine as it leaked out. Lol thanks for the tips. I need to detail my engine bay after an oil leak I recently fixed.
Have fun!
Good video 😊
Thanks for the visit
Hey guys, this is great. One questions: what if you've got an aftermarket air intake (think the cone shaped ones)? It needs a cleaning but I'm not sure what is safe to use on that material besides water.
Consult the filter manufacturer
I don't know if this is helpful to you, but I typically cover the intake and alternator on the ram with grocery plastic bags. I'll take a microfiber to both of them, then cover with two bags, then tape or band it shut to protect them. Also, I will typically clean the cold air apparatus separately with just mild soapy water with fingers, rinse, and let air dry.
Good plan
K&N recharge/oiling kit or just replace it.
@@PolishedMobileDetailing503 Think I might just replace it, emailed the manufacturer a few weeks ago for more info and haven't heard back. I'd rather not risk damaging the filter and possibly engine.
How would you do it on a 2021 Accord Hybrid can you do a video on that vehicle?
A hybrid is a different story, please refer to your owners manual.
I want that garden hose nozzle! Do you have the brand name or a link for it?
From Home Dépôt
Hi, I’d like to know I have a Toyota RAV4 hybrid 2023 XLe can I do the engine compartment on it even though it’s a hybrid with the high voltage cable please respond back very important. Thank you.
For that I would ask Toyota. Hybrids have special instructions.
I’ve done my Toyota Prius with no problem. I do cover the alternator and the fuse box with some plastic bags. Anything major that looks electronic I would cover. Nothing too fancy, just plastic bags around it. No tape is necessary. The orange cables got wet with no problem.
I’d like to thank the people that replied back to me about the Toyota RAV4 hybrid if I could do the engine bay because it has the high voltage cable thank you for your replies
Very good approach. Seems the allclean does some strong degreasing. Or were the oily stains not So tough?
All Clean at 15:1 is awesome for engines and wheels
A big thing to watch out for is older Cars, mid2010s and back, that have a weird intake manifold/injector/plug set up. Water can sit and dwell around those plugs and injectors so just make sure the car can sit for a few days unplugged and blow out all wiring harness sheathing and all those tricky injector areas and hit it all with compressed air. Wd40 makes a great contact cleaner(I'm an electrician and use it all the damn time), works great to displace water out of those harness sheaths as well if need be
Good suggestion
@diydetailofficial thanks for the video, im all about sharing experience to help others
@@TheManic.5-OH WD40 is okay to spray around injector areas?
@The1Music2MyEars depends on which WD40 formula, if it's contact cleaner than yeah thats probably fine. And depends on the injectors too, alot of injectors have exposed o rings seated halfway out of the fuel rail. You don't want to dry rot those at all. Alot of strong cleaning chemicals will dry rot rubber, I had to learn that the hard way. Wd40 contact cleaner is usually pretty ok with rubber, but I'd still give them a light coating of Silicone grease after the fact.
Does the quick beads have any effect on the serpentine belts and pulleys?
No
If the vehicle has an aftermarket air filter/breather like a K&N, do you recommend covering that with a plastic bag or something like that?
Yes
You can use a pressure washer, just stand a few feet away when spraying. Also use a wider angle nozzle. Perfectly safe.
Yes
What if I have a bunch of aftermarket lights with exposed modules and fans? I also have a cold air intake filter. Don't spray directly on them and just focus on the main engine bay area?
Yes keep away from those.
Foam with Dow bathroom ( scrubbing bubbles) cleaner. Wipe accessible areas with a brush and rag. Be careful not to spread corrosive brake fluid. Rinse with low pressure water.
Blowoff excess water with a leaf blower. Then spray with tire foam and let dry.
Thank you.
What kind of spray nozzle was that for the hose, w/ the vortex?
Curious too. It had nice patterns.
From Home Dépôt.
How does the heat effect the quick beads under the hood? How long will the protection last vs being on the paint outside?
The heat has little effect, it will last for months
@@diydetailofficial good to know. Thank you. Will you guys do any carpet detailing videos simple and extraction?
Eventually
@@diydetailofficial great, will be looking forward too it.
I just thought about using your rinseless wash, great video guys 👍😁
Thanks
I have an Audi S3 with the battery mounted in the trunk, do I need to worry about disconnecting the battery?
No
Yvan you should of got nick with the hose since he got you with the incredible suds 😆
Not my style
We use the pressure washer. Never had an issue in 28+ yrs. Just knowledge.
Excellent
what is the compressor called on the sprayer?
It’s one we are testing.
Would you do this on a 1998 Toyota Corolla?
Carefully
Could I use rinseless wash to clean the engine?
You can, but All Clean at 15:1 does a better job. Give it a shot! You may get phenomenal results or just need to use a bit more agitation in certain areas
@@diydetailofficial …hurries to place order for All Clean Concentrate…
Can you do this with the Mercedes G63 AMG?
Yes
Do this if you NEVER want to have your car start again lol
Dealerships was engines daily without problems
Do it affects the battery?
No
Afew things you should do whether youre a pro or this is your first time is make sure the dip sticks and caps are all fastened and tight before spraying anything with water. Also give the engine oil filler neck a little tug and a wiggle to make sure the seal is good. The last thing you need is a customer suing you because their mechanic found water and cleaning agents in their oil.
I always cover the ecu and alternator as those should not be exposed to running water. Better to be safe than sorry. Lastly, keep a can of wd40 around incase a pulley starts squeaking after the wash. Other than that, great video
Thank you.
What sprayer is that
IK
IK Foam Pro 12
Knew Yvan wouldn’t spray Nick. That would be wasting product.😁
So true
Looks like an Opel engine and engine external components.
Manufactured by Daewoo in Korea with GM components so it’s neither Vauxhall, Opel or Chevrolet. These things used to be much more simple in the old days
Agreed
12:38 and 🌊 inside hood metal panels hopefully doesn't start to corrode them? 🤔
No problem
How about hybrid engine bay?🤔
Have seen a video about that..
Clean it like you're cleaning your interior
Follow the manufacturers instructions
I did the engine bay on my Mazda 6 GT. I covered the alternator with a towel and proceeded to detail. Everything was fine afterwards. Car started, engine looked good, then came the following day when I was driving my sensor went off and it turned out to be my alternator. Don't know if it was coincidence or something I did when detailing. I now have a fear of it. I'm not mechanically inclined so breakdowns are my biggest fear
Most likely a bad coincidence.
I heard after engine detail your car gets anywhere from 5 to 25 hp
Minimum
I’m quite surprised you didn’t utilize rinseless wash for this
We like to show various options
where do you guys have clients wait while servicing their car?
This isn’t a detailing shop, it’s a filming studio.
You could sense old dude was not pleased with younger dudes techniques 😂😂😂
It happens.
Nick misses stuff on purpose to get comments going 😂
Lol
If you wet the hood linner,it will get heavy and drop and damage the material
In 40 plus years of detailing that’s never happened to me.
@@diydetailofficial your lucky
Is that your new car Ivan
No this was filmed before the demise of the Veloster
yes E-Foamer!!!
Yes
You guys are in OMAHA?!
Yes
Should have went to you guys before I left for Michigan! Lived there for 12 years
Just try and keep that water away from the Alternator.!!
Yes
My alternator is on top with no cover. Should I cover it when doing this
Ideally
@@diydetailofficial a plastic grocery bag or what do you recommend for the best results
That’s fine
Interesting. All other detailing youtubers have said a pressure washer is safer 🤷♂️
To each his own.
@@diydetailofficial If so, it begs the question, which is truly safer? Or does it really matter in the end?
The user is more important than the tool
If your vehicle has an open air intake , stuff a microfiber towel in it to keep water out .
Yes
Scary thing to do for most people
True
It sure is but it's actually not that bad when you've washed an engine bay a few times and get past the smells that come off the exhaust once the sealants or any residues burn off and the accessories and pullies fully dry out and the squeaks go away.
How soon after cleaning can the vehicle be driven?
Immediately
I cover the alternator keep the power washer close and blast them clean after I sold them and never had a problem 15 years enjoy
Thank you.
Won't getting Quick Beads on the Serpentine Belt make it slip? Your product description sounds like something you do not want to get on your belts. "Quick Beads can be lightly sprayed onto a clean wet surface, then activated with a garden hose or pressure washer to produce a deep gloss and solid protection. Quick Beads not only gives you a slick UV-resistant coating but is also incredibly fun to apply".
It doesn’t bond well to rubber, and the very little amount will not impact the belt.
I lost 1 valve last time I did so to my car...
Lost a valve?
@@diydetailofficial one valve is not working at all.
Future electrical problems with that car.
No stress
A tip Mike Phillips teaches is to run that engine for 5-minutes to help dry out any hidden water after cleaning.
Great tip!
Let the keyboard warriors and engine bay detail vid trollers begin! 🤣
lol, hopefully they learn something.
I thought a pressure washer was safer from a distance since its less water flow
From a distance yes, but either way it’s a risk
Why is the build still unfinished 😢
The series of videos you are seeing from this shop were all recorded in the same week. We will not have videos from the renovated shop until March
You didnt do the bottom of the hood tho
It may have been edited out
Never do this.
Why
@diydetailofficial because most people will mess this up. Too many electronics.
“Through the radiator.” ????? 🤨
Air and water flows through the radiator.
Water is not going through the radiator and getting the engine cover dirty. The water is going through the GRILL.
Even if you do drive a chevy squirt or zap or whatever the fuck that thing is called
All cars deserve to be cleaned.
@@diydetailofficial I agree, the Chevy squirt is like the homeless of cars, they deserve a scrub down every now and then just like everyone else ..
First!!!
Thank you.
Good thing I own a EV😂
Keep it
Other challenges.
