@Saskatchewan1913 Have you ever ran into where using pressure washer forced water into something that caused car not to start after cleaning an engine? Do you recommend covering alternator with plastic first? I have a 2007 Kia Rondo so not sure how well they protected connectors back then.
@@joelpasserell4525 Only had a problem myself on an old Jaguar but I have seen damage caused by other people using a pressure washer too close. If you are just washing off loose dirt or salt use a hose or a pressure washer from a distance. Alternator should be fine but always run the engine to operating temp afterwards help evaporate and water left on the surfaces.
@md h I've detailed a few engines, but I'm not an expert. I think you meant to reply to saskatchewan1913 instead of me.🤔 IMO I'd say you're OK without covering the battery. Use a leaf blower or other specialized blower to dry it off. If it's a newer model car, check the fuse box cover. If it over hangs the base where fuses are and no cables enter from the sides, you should be ok there too. If you're really concerned about it then use a hose with nozzle attachment with the shower setting. You can rinse both eoff using that, & there should be no worries. IMO, using a degreaser like super clean diluted 5:1, along with some brush agitation, water pressure from a hose should be all that's needed.
Often overlooked part of a complete detail. Awesome video pan! One tip, before you start spraying water, double check all visible fluid reservoir caps and the dip stick (if your car still has) to make sure they are on properly. Had a customer tow their vehicle in because the master cylinder cap wasn't on properly and they ended up getting water into the brake fluid.

Hi, a added tip is make sure you lubricate the hinges and catches after you have finished detailing your engine bay because the APC or degreaser may have dried out the greases on your hinges. If you don’t eventually you will have problems with the hinges and possibly the alignment of the hood. Thanks for another fabulous video Pan. 👍🇬🇧😀

Hey Pan, would disconnecting the negative terminal on your battery add any extra protection from shorting any electrical components or is it not necessary? Also, are you able to engine bay clean a hybrid/electric vehicle?

@@PanTheOrganizer Appreciate your kind response. Been a huge fan of your valuable content for few years now. What influenced me to leave a comment was your simple approach to helping people on this platform. Be well.
Not all engines have those big plastic covers that protect components, it's important to know the engine you are cleaning, for instance the MK2 vivaro vans are prone to seized injectors from water getting into the wells, I had a Renault Megan 225 sport that had seized spark plugs from water ingress, and these type of things happen over time, you can clean your engine but years later when an injector needs replacing you get a call that it is seized by rust.....always best to pay extra attention to any "wells" places where water can sit, use a blower and some wd40 to disperse any moisture, fuse boxes are another thing to be careful of, some are not designed or designed well enough to take a full soaking and again it could take time for any issues to show up by which time you'd unlikely think the engine clean was the cause.
How does Motorplast compare to Griot’s Garage “engine bay dressing” aerosol? Thank you for speaking clearly and pronouncing your words correctly. Thanks for your excellent review.

Great video as always Pan. I have a 22 X5 with a B58 that could use a bit of cleaning however, when I am under the car it is all covered up underneath. I would think that I would need to remove the under shielding before doing an engine cleaning in order to get all the dirt and grime to get out and not be trapped in the under trays. Your thoughts on that please? Thanks

Such as beginning of Spring, mid-summer, late fall. Thanks! Keep enjoying life!

Your videos continue to set the standards!!! I believe you have detailed engine bays in the past with applying degreaser to a dry surface versus doing a pre rinse. Would you advise against using a degreaser on a dry engine bay?
@@PanTheOrganizer Have you changed your mind about rinsing the engine bay first given what you learned in this more recent video of yours? th-cam.com/video/16SwGBQ29rs/w-d-xo.html
Engine bays and paintwork are two completely different things, independent from each other. If you are to detail an engine bay, start with the engine bay first, before detailing the rest of the car. And when I detail an engine bay, I will still pre-rinse it. Unless I'm doing some other variant of the method.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to an interior garage where I can preform my engine bay cleaning... living in Montreal, I’d like to know if I should wait till the weather gets warmer before doing the wash? Thx
Great job and relatively quick+easy. My 2002 diesel with its ancient ECU sitting on top (up against the insulation when the hood's down) scares me off this job. Separate question - I have just upgraded my Focus with a Recaro ST leather interior. Love it, but after detailing and conditioning the leather and the plastics I still get the whiff of the previous owner's cigarettes (the door cards seem to be the culprit). Starting to really bother me. Recommend a good interior neutraliser - rather than masker - for tobacco odour?
Mr. Pan, can you help me out with a couple of questions: 1. I bought CARPRO Cquartz UK 3.0 50ml, I want to apply it to my dad's car after polishing it, my question is, do you think I should use it for the windows or get a dedicated windshield/ glass-ceramic coating, maybe the CARPRO FlyBy Forte or one of the three winners in your 2020 awards 2. When polishing car paint, do you go through multiple pads or do you use the same pad while cleaning/blowing it out in between passes 3. My dad's car headlights are super bad, I'm gonna sand them and polish them, now I have a spray can (clear-coat with UV protection) should I apply that and then ceramic coat, or will the ceramic coat be enough? 4. Last question: speaking of sanding the headlights, I bought a 3" interference pad and (800, 1500, 3000) sanding disks, is it OK to use my Rupes LHR 75 DA to sand the headlights or should I do it by hand and go East-West then North-South then East-West again Thank you so much
I like watching your videos, you really know what you are doing. I have always been a little nervous about doing a wet engine bay clean, but i like to wipe it down when i'm cleaning my truck. what would you recommend putting on my tonneau cover to keep it looking good ?
LOL Yup after our disgusting winters in Canada this is what happens. But you still have to agree it wasn't that bad. It was still cleaner than 99% of engine bays on the road haha. And if it was always clean, I wouldn't be able to make a tutorial.
Hello! Thank you for the quick respons I got last time! I have a BMW E87 from 2007, it should then be fine according to the "15 year statement", right? I'll keep an extra eye out for electrical and sensitive components no matter what, but I'd still like your opinion on the age since it's borderline
Hi Pan, excellent video, thank you! I was wondering - is there no need to disconnect a battery? My car is 6 years old and there is a caution on a battery that is should not come in a contact with water ... one more question - what about the insulation part on the hood? Doesn't it absorb a lot of water? I want to clean it but it looks like it will stay wet for quite some time. Really appreciate this video!!!! :-)
I don't disconnect the batteries. But feel free to do so if it makes you feel any better. Each person has their way of doing things. In 24 years of detailing hundreds of engine bays, I have never had a single issue. Common sense and precautions when needed. For the underhood insulation, my Master Blaster Revolution car dryer takes care of that quite quickly (filtered hot dry air). And if there's any residual moisture, it will dissipate and go away when the car drives off and the engine bay gets hot.
Hey Pan, what other detailing uses could I use the IK foam pro for? I'm considering purchasing one but would like to see more uses for it other than engine bay cleaning. Thanks...love your videos..I just bought a Challenger Scat Pack and want to keep it looking new....you've helped me learn alot. Thx for that.
Foamer are mainly for engine bay cleaning, wheel and tire cleaning, carpet foaming/pre treat, snow foam for those who don’t have a foam cannon, etc. Where ever you use foam.
Hahahah it's just the first part of the spring cleanup. Plus, as I live in a brand new house in a new development, they haven't paved the roads yet so I have to be patient for a few months still.
@@PanTheOrganizer Mr. Pan; I have been watching your videos for years! This was just the first time I commented. Several of your peers and you continue to teach me a lot. Thank you. Wishing you all the best; -Pseudonym.
Not really. Modern cars (less than ten years old) have pretty much water tight components. As long as you use common sense and safe practices, don’t overthink the moment.
Pan, you’re the master! I can’t get enough of your videos over the years. Great video, as usual. Wondering about something. There seems to be 2 schools of thought on this product (Motorplast): one is to blow dry the surface first then apply, and the other is to apply to a wet surface. The Rag Company swears by using this on a wet surface b/c they say the product needs the water to bond the best. Have you tried both? Do you recommend one over the other? I plan on using this product on my 2018 Alpina B7, so I am looking for the safest, yet most effective method! Cheers!
Both methods are valid. However I still prefer to make sure I blow dry the engine bay to make sure there's no residual water afterwards, as to not get any issues. I prefer making sure there's no water left, than having an optimal bond of the product. And even on a dry surface it works well enough.

Can you do an engine bay cleaning on a Hybrid car? I want to clean mine but am slightly nervous due to all of the electrical items in the engine compartment.
Great Teaching video! I have two old vehicles from 2006-2007, the question I have is do I need to put a plastic cover on the car batteries when cleaning and power washing? Leave it open then? If so, won't it damage the batteries? Thanks! Keep up the good work!
Pan, is the Motorplast a water based dressing? Also, do you suggest to have the dressing applied AFTER washing the exterior of the car? That way water won’t affect the dressing while washing the car?
Is it required to wipe down the Koch dressing after letting it dwell? Or is it only if you have high-spots left over? The idea of a simple spray-and-wait solution is very convenient without the hassle of wiping down afterwards.
On modern vehicles (less than 10 years old) I never had the need to do that. Just use common sense and correct procedures, don't overthink the moment. But if for some reason you are scared, or are working on an older vehicle, then by all means, protect sensitive components like batteries, ECUs, alternators, etc.
Hi Pan, love your channel and all the work that you do! I have a X1 and every time after I wash and clean the wheels + rims and drive my car I always hear a squeaking/whistling sound from my brakes for a while before it goes away. ZERO concerns. I have detailed hundreds of engines in my 24 years of detailing, ZERO issues. Especially with cars newer than 10 years, the engine bays are already water tight and well sealed.
(Just wondering) how much would u charge for a FULL car detail, interior, exterior, and engine bay? Also how long would it take u to clean it if u didn’t have to film it and set up the camera?

If it makes you feel safer, you certainly can. If your car is less than ten years of age, I wouldn’t worry about it. I never feel the need to disconnect the battery. Your car drives in the elements including the rain and water gets into the engine compartment all the time anyways.
Hi Pan! I unfortunately ran out of GS. Can I use something like Purple Power to clean the engine bay or just use GSF by itself? Thanks for all your awesome tips as always!!!
Any automotive degreaser or APC of your choice, properly diluted. Don’t use a pH neutral shampoo like Gsf as that won’t do much grease cleaning. Engine bays need a more alkaline cleaner.
Great video, thanks... Could SuperClean be used for the engine and hood cleaning? Also, how long should we wait to start the engine? Finally, would the process be different to clean a Hybrid electric plug-in engine vehicle whick has a gas engine and electric motor? Thanks
Yes you can use SuperClean to detail engine bays, in fact I had done a previous engine bay cleaning tutorial with SuperClean products here: th-cam.com/video/H252L0SOHE4/w-d-xo.html Once I'm done drying the engine bay and applying the dressing, I start the engine right away to help clear any remaining water and make sure everything works fine.
I'll definitely try the Motorplast. Do you find that it has less shine than 303 Protectant? That's what I use now, and I'd like a more matte/natural finish.
Hi Pan, First of all, I follow your videos with great interest and thank you for your contributions. I own a 2019 G20 320d, and I have a few issues I'd like to consult with you about. Specifically, I am noticing calcium deposits and surface rust in the engine compartment. There are white lime deposits on the aluminum covers that flake off as dust when I wipe them. When I look deeper into the engine, it appears that the surface rust is in its initial stages. Additionally, the surface of the turbocharger is quite rusty, which I believe is normal. In short, I would like your advice on how to clean this effectively. I have learned a lot from your videos, but the rust issue is quite concerning to me. I would greatly appreciate it if you could respond. I will continue to follow your work with interest.

Good question. Should one get a foamer connected to the compressor or is the manual pump foamer enough? 🤷🏼♂️
I was AMAZED, DIRT on Pans engine bay!
LOL Yup after our disgusting winters in Canada this is what happens. But you still have to agree it wasn't that bad. It was still cleaner than 99% of engine bays on the road haha.
Hey Pan, would disconnecting the negative terminal on your battery add any extra protection from shorting any electrical components or is it not necessary? Also, are you able to engine bay clean a hybrid/electric vehicle?
You certainly can take an extra security measures if you feel the need to. I have never had the need for that with modern cars (less than 10 years).
Watched your older video and this 1 also, and I hope I built enough courage to detail the engine bay of my Lincoln Corsair 2022.
Thanks, PAAAN!
👍🏻
I would be really nervous power washing the engine with the newer cars with all the electronics and chips in the engine bay. But you are the professional pan and I’m going to give it a go. Good video thanks

I wonder if you can wax or ceramic coat the engine block? Is it possible to apply such protection to parts that heats up a lot...
Great video thanks Pan! I'm always worried about getting the spark plug areas wet and electronics.
Same 😆
Not all engines have those big plastic covers that protect components, it's important to know the engine you are cleaning, for instance the MK2 vivaro vans are prone to seized injectors from water getting into the wells, I had a Renault Megan 225 sport that had seized spark plugs from water ingress, and these type of things happen over time, you can clean your engine but years later when an injector needs replacing you get a call that it is seized by rust.....always best to pay extra attention to any "wells" places where water can sit, use a blower and some wd40 to disperse any moisture, fuse boxes are another thing to be careful of, some are not designed or designed well enough to take a full soaking and again it could take time for any issues to show up by which time you'd unlikely think the engine clean was the cause.

Thanks
Thanks for the video Pan. I am not sure the average persons ever thinks about cleaning the engine bay. I can now safely add this to the maintenance.
Glad to help
Wow amazing results Pan even if it is not museum like finish. Will later down the line make a more lengthy video on detailing an engine bay as a museum like finish for people who want show their cars off in a autoshow?

Pan, hats off to you fella, that is one gorgeous lump in that engine bay ( apologies, but it would have to have a Remus Sound System to complement its looks. One of my sons put a switchable Remus on his M240 & I was so so tempted to take it off his hands when he bought the CarbonFiber infested Competition M4 just for the music outta the back end. Great to hear!
Your videos continue to set the standards!!! I believe you have detailed engine bays in the past with applying degreaser to a dry surface versus doing a pre rinse. Would you advise against using a degreaser on a dry engine bay?
I prefer rinsing first like when washing a car. That way you remove loose dirt and debris.
Good video.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to an interior garage where I can preform my engine bay cleaning... living in Montreal, I’d like to know if I should wait till the weather gets warmer before doing the wash? Thx
How about protecting the electrical and electronics connections from water jet in engine bay? Any tips?
What is the best interior dressing you could use that is none greasy and will give you protection for a couple of months???
Great job and relatively quick+easy. My 2002 diesel with its ancient ECU sitting on top (up against the insulation when the hood's down) scares me off this job.
Separate question - I have just upgraded my Focus with a Recaro ST leather interior. Love it, but after detailing and conditioning the leather and the plastics I still get the whiff of the previous owner's cigarettes (the door cards seem to be the culprit). Starting to really bother me. Recommend a good interior neutraliser - rather than masker - for tobacco odour?
Mr. Pan, can you help me out with a couple of questions:
1. I bought CARPRO Cquartz UK 3.0 50ml, I want to apply it to my dad's car after polishing it, my question is, do you think I should use it for the windows or get a dedicated windshield/ glass-ceramic coating, maybe the CARPRO FlyBy Forte or one of the three winners in your 2020 awards
2. When polishing car paint, do you go through multiple pads or do you use the same pad while cleaning/blowing it out in between passes
3. My dad's car headlights are super bad, I'm gonna sand them and polish them, now I have a spray can (clear-coat with UV protection) should I apply that and then ceramic coat, or will the ceramic coat be enough?
4. Last question: speaking of sanding the headlights, I bought a 3" interference pad and (800, 1500, 3000) sanding disks, is it OK to use my Rupes LHR 75 DA to sand the headlights or should I do it by hand and go East-West then North-South then East-West again
Thank you so much
I like watching your videos, you really know what you are doing. I have always been a little nervous about doing a wet engine bay clean, but i like to wipe it down when i'm cleaning my truck. what would you recommend putting on my tonneau cover to keep it looking good ?
Pan this is unsat I expected your engine bay to look better than the showroom floor model at all times! Hahaha
Beautiful turnaround on the engine Bay. Definitely compliments that BMW. 👍 🇨🇦
@@PanTheOrganizer thank you for your answer, Pan!!👌 🙂🙂
Hey Pan, what other detailing uses could I use the IK foam pro for? I'm considering purchasing one but would like to see more uses for it other than engine bay cleaning. Thanks...love your videos..I just bought a Challenger Scat Pack and want to keep it looking new....you've helped me learn alot. Thx for that.
Foamer are mainly for engine bay cleaning, wheel and tire cleaning, carpet foaming/pre treat, snow foam for those who don’t have a foam cannon, etc.
Where ever you use foam.
OH Pan look at that undercarriage, you're letting this car get out of hand with the dirt. ;-)
Hahahah it's just the first part of the spring cleanup. Plus, as I live in a brand new house in a new development, they haven't paved the roads yet so I have to be patient for a few months still.
Thank you for doing such hard work. We like your videos a lot.

Nicely done. In these kind of models do you need to unplug the battery or not?
Not really. Modern cars (less than ten years old) have pretty much water tight components. As long as you use common sense and safe practices, don’t overthink the moment.
Do you have any tips on removing paint overspray from plastic trim and metal components in the engine bay?

In case of doubt, just cover the sensitive parts with plastic bags.
Pan, is the Motorplast a water based dressing?
Also, do you suggest to have the dressing applied AFTER washing the exterior of the car? That way water won’t affect the dressing while washing the car?
I detail the engine bay first, and clean the rest of the car after, because you don’t want the greasy engine crap splashing onto your clean paint.
Beautiful car Pan- congratulations and nice job on the engine detail!
Pan, any tips for cleaning / removing oxidation and salt that accumulates on aluminum ?
Is it required to wipe down the Koch dressing after letting it dwell? Or is it only if you have high-spots left over? The idea of a simple spray-and-wait solution is very convenient without the hassle of wiping down afterwards.
You can spray it and just let it dry. It will level itself.
@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks!
Thanks for the video. BTW do we need to cover those electrical parts like battery, ecu, wire connector and etc?
On modern vehicles (less than 10 years old) I never had the need to do that. Just use common sense and correct procedures, don't overthink the moment. But if for some reason you are scared, or are working on an older vehicle, then by all means, protect sensitive components like batteries, ECUs, alternators, etc.

I never discuss prices on TH-cam. This is a 15 minute job (engine bay cleaning).

Have you ever cleaned up a Bronco removable top. I have a 1996 full size Bronco.
I have not.
I’ve heard several times from different channels to unplug the battery and cover the alternator….is this beneficial to do?
Thanks
Yes you can use SuperClean to detail engine bays, in fact I had done a previous engine bay cleaning tutorial with SuperClean products here: th-cam.com/video/H252L0SOHE4/w-d-xo.html
Once I'm done drying the engine bay and applying the dressing, I start the engine right away to help clear any remaining water and make sure everything works fine.
Would Chemical Guys VRP or Silk Shine Protect be decent engine dressing? Not necessary to disconnect battery or cover alternator with bag?
Yes those are ok too. For the battery and alternator, that's up to you to decide.
I'll definitely try the Motorplast. Do you find that it has less shine than 303 Protectant? That's what I use now, and I'd like a more matte/natural finish.
It has an OEM appearance like Meguiar's Hyper Dressing. Great stuff.
Hi Pan,
First of all, I follow your videos with great interest and thank you for your contributions.
Love your videos. Do you have or can you make a video about cleaning carbon fiber parts inside and exterior parts. of gloss and matte finish?
