Half empty car park and it only wants to park next to another car. Now I understand why there is always a car next to me on an empty car park 😂
But then the question: why using an automatic parking feature it there's plenty of space;). I know, here it was to test the functionality of the system, but you can park the car at an empty parking lot 10x quicker yourself. Some systems are there to make it easier for us, but this.... I'm getting old 😅
@pilotandthecity8527 If you are proficient at parking, you'd park in an empty car park much quicker yourself. But poor drivers actually can't cope without other cars as a reference, hence why you end up with someone parked next to you in an empty car park. I can well imagine poor drivers using this feature in an empty car park - but unfortunately the tech demonstrated here also can't cope without other cars as a reference, and would take more effort than just parking yourself 😂
he doesn't have the 360 camera configurated so there's no way the car can see a free parking spot if it's not beside another car
I’m literally just test driving an ID4 and got the parking work just fine. The trick is to just drive 10-20kph and then just stop when it finds a space. And it can also pull out from side park, just activate your left blinker.

I have a ID.5 and it has pull out option.
This test is relevant because it covers a typical use case. People do not want to spend time reading instructions or following complex procedures. They just want to press a button and let the car park itself. If the auto-parking process is not intuitive, if it does not work out of the box with minimum learning, the overall user experience will be negative and people will not be using it. It does not matter if it works well when user follows a 10 point checklist. This should not be required at all in such cases.
Why no test of memory parking? That’s the one cooking :)
No 360 camera on that trim level so no 3D view available. As simple as that. And when it comes to finding empty spots you are quite right on the video. If you can't park in an empty spot by yourself then you shoudn't be driving at all.
Car did well, driver less so! OK, it relies on other cars to work what to do rather than road markings, and sometimes gets confused about the shape of the space it is parking in. But subject to those caveats, and assuming that the driver can follow a simple instruction on the screen to drive forward a little in some scenarios so it has space to manoeuvre, it works pretty well....
Great work as ever Bjorn.
But the audience fail to understand one very simple flaw:
*Why* do we have to drive forward at all when all other cars drives forward for you?

I'm honestly surprised that in fact Toyota had the best auto-parking system so far. I mean yes, they constructed good cars in the past but I never heard that they are renown for their auto-parking ^^
The downside of this car is that if you want a quick shopping before work you would have to wait until there are at least one other customer before you can park, on the upside, if everything is full, the car still magically are able to find a parking spot, even though I am not sure what those white 45º lines means...
For the sake of science try the parking with memory at your garage for example @bjorn

I had a VW Golf with self-parking… it couldn’t see the lines at all, and it only parked relative to the other cars!

Hi Bjørn. Wonder if it would be different in a car with 360deg camera option. I think that is needed to find available spaces on a empty car park.

After finally manage to park correct at 14:00, of course the car want to play "Nothing's gonnastop me now", you can't really blame the car for that, but I still think the car got a bit too confident ! 🤣

Auto parking is a joke in general. If you cant park your car you shouldnt be driving it

Vs the Ariya, it looks like this is much better at aligning the car, but the interface is shit. I wonder if its any better in ID cars with area view.
It would be interesting to go back and test the Leaf autoparking again for comparison.

Now I understand why VW's higher ups think VW's "Tesla like" software won't be ready till 2028, what this car has looks so much like a 2015's infotainment with a new fresh coat of paint.
It doesn’t have 360 camera so it just uses the parking sensors with some algebra stuff

@@cmdrstevemcmaru7417 Yes VW offers remote parking for most of the 2024 models now including ID.4 also you can open or close the car now via App.
Why do you title these videos "Id4 facelift", since there hasn't been any facelifting in the exterior or interior? 😉 All the model year 2024 changes are "under the hood" technical improvements.

Disagree with this video. ID.4 has a very good park assistent that works super fine when you need it. I have it myself and sometimes it is just a helpful feature.

Wasn't the Tesla the worst experience? ;) You're pushing the buttons so often, and regularly missing the instructions the car is giving you, the system gets confused. I recognise the "just becoming father and being tired syndrome " ;) what about the memory function?

@@JensStragier that's the question 🧐. Every system gets confused after pushing buttons multiple times without following instructions. But on the other hand you can say that it shouldn't be like this. It was not the best test, but I think not the worst considering the handling of the parking system and how it's ment to be used.

I only ever use it for parallel parking but my 2015 Ford Focus does it way better than this xD I feel like when parking behind the passat it used a lot more space than it should, if there was another car in the third spot it probably wouldn't have worked again
ID series (Cupra vw Audi and Skoda) only shows spots you have driven past. And the software isnt that optimal.
It's obvious that autoparking just is a tiny step towards fully autonomous cars and we are the guinea pigs.
Totally useless feature. Trying this feature in rush hours at the shopping center parking would cause at least me a nervous breakdown.

Why Norway also have a small parking space? Norway is a rich country 🤦.
Because the expectation is that you walk, bike or use public transport. New buildings actually have a limited number of parking spots allocated to dissuade people from driving, despite the entire Norwegian economy being dependent on the car because of Norway's geography, size and climate 🤷

Compared to this the European parking assistance system from Tesla is excellent.. 😢
The Tesla parking assist is great, I test drove a MY and also tested the auto driving feature. Both worked very well, the auto pilot had some minor issues, but was still a great experience.
Interestingly, Born has the ability to "pull out" but it never works well. I could upload a video of that.
I love you Bjorn, but I can not watch this video, because it brings up emotions as if I try to teach my mum some tech stuff.
Just read the instructions and the car is actually dumb and not so smart as we would expect. The car can not decide which parking spot is suitable, it only helps you with moving the car. On a parking lot with many free spaces nobody would use this assistant so they have not programmed a use case for that. This assistant comes in handy in case there are some slots already occupied.

Why a pulling out function!!? Step into the car, look left and right and drive away... as easy as it is... I think if someone is not able to pull out of a parking spot he or she should stay out of a car anyway. I really don't see the value of this function.
If you are in a really tight parallel parking situation it could be useful. I agree though that it's pretty useless for orthogonal parking

Tesla may have all the fancy overlays, but this parked brilliantly,, no kerb rash which the tesla is common for doing.
Tesla vision auto park is miles better than this. This looks terrible in comparison to the auto parking in my Tesla. The software implementation of this is so freaking bad that almost nobody will use this.

@@FlipBoxStudio are you stupid? I am driving a Tesla myself and as I said, the LATEST models don’t support autopark YET!!! So he can’t test it with a new car. Older models equipped with USS still have autopark.

If they update it, now UI isn’t updating it. It’s like WinAmp days just getting a new skin doesn’t fix anything.
Did you know it still can’t recall last used drive mode properly, it’ll show the last selected mode as active but not load the settings, like if you are in eco you leave and get back, the car would show you are in eco but all the settings would revert to comfort.
