I appreciate you and all the support so very much! 🙏🫶
Grateful is a word that keeps coming to mind quite frequently recently and I just want to say thank you and I truly do appreciate you more than you think. It means a lot to me 🙏 🥹
We added an Amazon Wishlist(you can add or remove items) and Tyler & Dobby hoodies/sweaters as I’ve gotten a few requests. Links are in the video bio ❤
Tyler, repurpose the side door for the bathroom or bedroom. Replace the side door with the opposite swing to simplify your work. Second, my wrap around the counter comment, you could leave the end of the under side counter open. To serve as an indoor wood crib. Third, your idea for the kitchen, is perfect, from an ease of all the plumbing you may do for kitchen and bathroom. All being in a centralized location.
This makes me so very happy! Thank you!! I’ll be looking, AFTER I watch this video!!! 🇺🇸❤️🇨🇦 Crista
Make it a duplex cabin and rent out one side
I’m no expert on wrap or insulation but that’s ok so many people on here are. I’m here for moral support I guess because you’ve touched this old ladies heart. I love your layout it looks so good and open, my favourite way to live. Sending you love and support from Scotland, take care 🌸
Really am enjoying your videos. That is a lot of handwork but it sure is paying off, what a sweet place. Just be careful with your back, please. Anyway Great Job!! Hello from Madison, Alabama😅
Great channel! A suggestion from a 30 year contractor. If you don't open up the entirely building including all walls and the ceiling, then seal up any crack or gap you will continue to have mice in the building. They will just move to another area of the house while you work on another area. You will also need to place wire mesh (hardware cloth) or plywood under the floor to keep the mice out of the floor. Just my opinion. Looking forward to seeing how it all works out.
Tyler, I am now 76 years old, but you so remind me of when I went to Alaska in my early 20's and bought an old 5 acre homestead from the 50's with no access and turned it into a great place to raise a family. Keep up the good work you are on a great path
I want to visit this place 🫶
We are a Dutchbat-Belgian completely, moved to Italy in the mountains (the Sibillinis ), we broke down a ruin and are just now finishing the newbuild. Our goal is also to live as selfsufficient as possible (9 hectare) but we are by far not so remonte as you are. Respect for what you are doing. we lived almost 3 years in a canvas tent and caravan with our 3 dogs and it was tough, especially in winter when it’s cold and wet , dark from 5pm till 8 in the morning. The first 2,5 years we had no electricity, no running water…. You know what it means ;-)
Take it one day at a time and you’ll get where you wanna be. Being able to live so close to or in nature is so worth all the efforts.
Hopefully you both are sliding into spring and doing well. Be safe and enjoy life 😅
Once you get the cabin fully renovated and the road fixed enough so you can get the van to the cabin, you might want to think about building a decent size chicken coop and run. You don’t need a lot of chickens for your own use, no more than 5 or 10 should suit your needs. This way you can save on money for eggs, plus the chickens will eat up all the bugs and other critters that might get into the cabin.
Later on you can even sell the eggs along with your apples once you get the trees healthy enough to produce steady crops….
I was one of the people who suggested removing internal walls. So pleased to see you are doing so. It is flooded with light 👏👌☺️🏴🥰
It looks great right! ❤
Me too, and when it comes to living in the cabin in the winter it will be a lot warmer as the woodstove will heat the whole space not just one room. :)
You really need house wrap aka Tyvek on that place. I don’t think your exterior cladding is water/wind proof. It won’t look pretty but for a couple hundred dollars you will be warmer and reduce chances of mold.
Yes this is À brilliant idea. Leave it like that for a few years until you can afford to cover it.
100% agree with this....
Fantastic idea by OP.
Definitely new a vapor barrier on the outside the insulation won't do much of the cold air gets into the wall cavities
Your cabin is going to be awesome when you get it fully renovated. I love the open concept, looks so much bigger. Glad you got rid of the mice. I just about had a heart attack when I saw them. LOL
🐭
he's likely not done with the mice yet! gotta take the drywall off of ALL the walls to check and be sure before going too much further.
@@theresapalmer-s8p Agreed, and we saw the additional water damage behind, so removing all the drywall and replacing all of the insulation would be a very wise move.
As an animal lover I appreciated the mouse wall aquarium. Lol. I look forward to seeing your videos every week and the cabin looks so good. Please give Dobby a hug.
You are looking mighty homesteady, great progress, and such beautiful land thanks for including us in your powerful journey
YOU'VE DONE REALLY WELL, it's a great spot,
I am in Virginia, USA, and I absolutely love your place and your house, and your floorplan, and all your land and apples galore. You are a very very lucky man to have found this place because so many of us would love to live there as well. Peace and prosperity to you my friend.
I’m sure there’s a spot for you on the property somewhere ❤️🙏
You’ve made fantastic progress! You’re what my dad would call a “grafter”, it’s means a very hard worker 👍🏻😊
🙏
You're really making progress! Wow, those mice! 😅😂 If you spray PineSol around edges of inside & outside of walls, it will deter mice & ants from entering. I love your tree swing, and the "spots" you are envisioning. Look how much you have accomplished in a short time. Can't wait for your 1st anniversary there! ❤
Interesting. Full strength? Or dilute 50/50? Thanks for the tip!
I love all the support you are getting. There are a lot of great people out there. Such a great community. 👍
❤️
Its so beautiful. Your doing a great job
OH My God… “Hocus Pocus”… 😂😂😂😂😂 I love that movie!!! As an english speaker learning french…. My favourite line is…… “Je Veux mon Livre!”……. “I want my book”!!!
Sorry, that likely sounds like the ravings of a crazy person.
My partner and I are just sitting here debating whether we could live your life. I firmly fall on the Yayy side and he is somewhat misguidedly on the nay!! I say this because we sort of live a more urbanized farm living version if your life now. 😂🤣😂🤣
You are amazing my friend. So open and honest about your feelings. I consider you a friend on some level.
You will and I suspect, already found your peace and happiness!!
Thank you so much my friends 🙏❤️
All I can say is wow! Awesome video!!
I am glad you discovered the mice hide out. I saw where a person living in Alaska had a similar problem. He found out the holes they were getting in and he took steel wool and shoved it in the holes then took expandable foam and spayed it with the still wool so it nade an aweso m e blockage..it made a perfect plug and the steel wool kept the mice from trying to nibble a way in. Great cleanup, by the way! It's hard to believe how much it's changed since you bought it!
I'm looking forward to your next video!!
Rick From Virginia
Great idea! 🙏❤️
That's exactly how I blocked the entry hole for when ONE rat moved into my caravan. Steel wool and expandable foam. Metal grill on another.
Love how you are clearing the stream area, great “spot” to contemplate life, could totally see a treehouse in there somewhere🥰
You can see and hear how your energy is changing, keep it up.
Fall is revealing hidden gems within your property ❤
I can tell, being on the mountain is very therapeutic for you. Your future forever home is looking amazing. 😍👍 Sending good vibes! Looking forward to your progress!
Back around 1900s in Michigan USA loggers used to make "corduroy roads" from lining the road beds with unprofitable trees instead of a rock base. Gravel was added on top by future generations. About 30 years ago when one road was torn up to widen it, they found petrified wood.
Beautiful piece of heaven there
You’re doing a awesome job on this property. You should be proud. Congrats
Ram Pump from the brook would make a great video...
Tyler, awesome job! I do appreciate your comment about spots, they are good for the soul.
❤ Definitely so. 😊
I’M JEALOUS! The views, the sounds, the serenity, when you’re done, you better be the happiest man alive! And the fittest! Be safe.
You must be relieved you opened those walls, seeing all the problems. Oh I'm from Cape Town, South Africa.👍
It's going to be amazing watching how much everything changes with the seasons, especially that new creek area.👍
I hope that eventually you can purchase an atv to help you carry stuff from the road and around your place,it can be a great tool for you The place is amazing, you have reach as far as Puerto Rico, hope you continue growing your channel,be blessed...
I’m so impressed with how much you’ve gotten done in a short time. I am really loving your videos!
It's wonderful. We can't help but rejoice with you. Is going to be so snug and having the openess is beautiful. Truly happy for you. I can't believe all of the imperfections you are needing to secure. But how tight from the cold. And the view. A piece of Heaven... Love your graphic of you and Dobby in the van. Too cute. Helene, Tx
Hi... I'm watching from South Africa... I'm a big fan of hard-working men who aren't scared of getting their hands dirty...
Love love love little Dobby... she's a sweety pie...
It's amazing how much farther you can see by clearing some of the lower foliage. It seems to bring everything closer by being able to see further.👍
Totally! ❤️
Love the coffee perch, and sit spots! Agree with everyone suggesting more counter space. That doesn’t mean you have to fill it up with things. You’ll need it if you’re going to be cooking and processing apples and vegetables, fish, or game. Minimalism is useful if it doesn’t get in the way of ease and joyful living. Stunning progress!
You are living the dream! Enjoy
HYDROELECTRIC!! That stream situation is perfect for it!
that stream looks perfect for some hydroelectricity
Invest in some number #4 steel wool and spray foam for the holes around the walls to keep the mice out.put the steel wool in the holes and spray foam over them from the inside mice and other rodents don’t like the steel wool.
Oh I am from Westwego,Louisiana
Before insulation I would spray bleacj on all the bare wood and let dry,Mice are germa carriers. Tnis cabin opeened up is sure more homey. Your making amazing progress.
Love the coat rack
Welcome to the east coast ❤
Hello Tyler and Dobby! I was cheering as soon as I saw you taking the wall down! Thats awesome!!! The mice will have to find another winter home somewhere else😂! Now just to make sure they can't get back in, right?! I must say that I'm looking forward to the removal of the other wall too! Keep on keepin' on! Love❤ and peace✌ see you next post👍🇺🇸🤗😘
Hei, regarding water at the cabin. Do some research on ram pumps. No electricity needed and it can move water up hill 24/7. It will save you trips to the creeks with buckets at least...
Hello Tyler I’m from Missouri and I love watching what you are doing with the cabin and those views are amazing! Waiting a whole week for another video is killing me! Would love to see a couple a week. Keep up the fantastic job it all looks amazing. The open concept is better and will be easier to heat than having separate rooms. You and Dobby take care!
I think he's currently there only on the weekends, unless I'm mistaken. I think we'll get more content once he moves in permanently - in the Spring, perhaps.
Editing the videos sure must take a fair bit of time too. So uploading once a week is already plenty of work. Us Patreons get a few extras ❤
I'm absolutely green with envy about your creek that runs down the hillside. The clearing of the undergrowth down along the creek really opens up how lovely that area is. It's perfect! The creek is not too noisy with just the right amount of water to be a babbling brook. In the end, I think you'll have several benches/sitting areas to take advantage of different views. The spot on the creek that is 4 feet deep could make an excellent place to sit in the water on really hot days.
❤️
Goodbye drinking water.
Goodbye drinking water.
Mice are probably in your ceiling as well.... ask me how I know? LOL. Looking great.
The inside already looks amazing with the insulation removed, you have loads of space and the plan for t your kitchen sound perfect 👍
Looking good. I'm a fan of "spots" as well. They all give you a different place and view which in turn causes more ideas to form. Stay safe. 🙏🙏
Love this
Look great, it's really coming along. Loving Dobbies fashion sense, too. Looks like the studs and sheathing are in pretty decent shape dispite the mice and mold in the insulation. Glad to see the building coming back to life.
It's just he and his buddy, if he wants it all open as many small cabins are, can always arrange shelves and furniture as open partitions, he must be comfortable in his own home
Greetings from South Africa. I'm enjoying watching your weekly progress.
Like your video's all the way from South Africa. Enjoy the outdoors.

Tyler your a brave man I would have freaked out over all those mice😅. I love all your sitting spots how wonderful to have so many. Your land is truly beautiful you can really tell by all the cleaning up that you have been doing. My favorite spot is by the creek❤ You and Dobby have a wonderful week see you on the next video 🙂💐
nothing but cool, my friend
Wow what a difference removing that wall made, so much light and space. Love your creek, the sound of water running is so calming.
You have a little piece of heaven there my friend. 🇦🇺👍🏼
Thanks for sharing your journey. You've made great progress. Watching from Sunshine Coast B.C.
Hi Tyler Look into rocket mass heaters! These are real efficient way to heat your cabin! Other similar and is the way to go is Batch box rocket stove ! The difference is bigger fire and it lasts longer. Anyway just thought to mention it as you may want to be as efficient as possible considering you are caring your wood.
😂 Love that you are a fan of spots, you can really have an awesome landscape and not appreciate it. Your spots though, can be places of focus by having paths leading you around to those areas. Great way to enjoy your surroundings.👍❤
Miss you Tyler... thinking of you today... Monday November 6th 🫂🌹🫂
It is really looking fantastic what you have done so far. Lots of hard work but it will be worth it in the end. Cheers to you!
🙏❤️
Looks so much better & larger. For the kitchen I think I would wrap the counter around. I have a very small kitchen and the lack of counter space is frustrating at times.
You'll want the counter once you start processing apples
Perfect timing, just flipped over and there's your latest video 🙂
👋
Great progress! The cabin looks and feels 100% better with more light and less walls and MICE. You've got this Tyler. I like your repurposed pipe as a coat hook and the new swing. Be sure to loosen swing tether as trees grow for the health of the trees. The deer look very healthy. Must be all the apples! Nummy.😊
Might want to reconsider open shelving in the kitchen. Closed cupboards keep pests out.
Tremendous amount of work you have done - its so clean now in the walls and floors! Keep up the good work - thanks for sharing
Good job!
You are doing a great job. Look forword to every video..
Wow, you've done so much to the property and the house already!❤ And I love your spots and look forward to more!
😊would like to fast forward a year n see all the progress 😊
Wrap the counter around. It doesn't have to a full depth counter. Get or figure out how to flip the side door to open the other direction. That way when you come in with supplies. You can set it directly on the counter. And don't have to walk all the way around the the door, to do so.
Excellent advice. Most men don't think about those little things that can make a huge difference.
@@samsmom1491 new houses have to be built to plan, irregardless of what makes sense. Luckily @tyleranddobby modifications are endless. To further efficiency, the end of the counter can be open. To serve as an indoor wood crib. And the side door could be repurposed for the bathroom or bedroom.
I'd wrap the counter from under the window, around Left side, with more counter from left to right at the end of wall. A "C" shape. Can do extension off right wall without counter to include solarium etc.
@@sometea4741 tyler as stated many times, he's a minimalist. A full c counter will cost him more $. Not to mention all the cabinets space under the counter. What's he going to fill it with? I believe in Tyler's case. Being a minimalist, and stating, wanting an "open floor plan". Most peoples suggestions, like mine, are about function over form.
I love the openness to your home. It’s becoming a wonderful home.
Greetings from the United Kingdom, looking forward to seeing you on this journey, 😊
Greetings from Florida. Tyler, the cabin is looking great. I know is work in progress but the transformation is so noticeable! Having that creek is a huge plus. Who knows, there's probably gold in that creek. Thank you for another awesome video.
Tyler, you have a good sense of possibilities for your homestead. I also think you have a keen eye for "Spots". What a lucky dude to be able to enjoy and drink in all of nature's glory all around you!!
Godspeed, Tyler and Dobby. Jimbo from Southeast Texas
I'm a counter person. Cooks can never get enough. However, islands are totally awesome too. Will be fun to see what you do. Caution in opening your bed space, BUT if you don't like it, you can just put a wall back up, smile. The pleasure is in all you can imagine.
Hocus Pocus and Halloween Town are my favs.
The creek is my most favorite place on your property.
saludos desde españa
Hello from the United Kingdom! This is a dream of mine and would love to be able to do it. I highly recommend using the rivers as a source of power. And definitely agree with another comment about getting a few chickens. And one more idea is keeping fish in a large tank so you can grow vegetables etc using the water and eat the fish, if they reproduce quick enough. Hope this helps
Hallo, ich beneide euch zwei um diesen wunderschönen Platz, ich hoffe du findest was du suchst und wünsche dir alles gute ❤
🙏
Wagon/sled would be useful. suggested watches for helpful stuff. Outdoor Boys, Vanwives. chainsaw all the brush you cut put on your access trail in wet areas. Outdoor Boys fellow just did a trail in on his Alaska property he has great ideas you would find helpful. You need to check your foundation. Slim potato head good help as well. He is doing up a cabin in your neck of the woods. Good luck.
The property is looking great, especially around the creek. You are doing a fantastic job on getting everything cleaned up. Really enjoying your show. Keep it up.
Great watching your content.👍
Great start! I like how you are able to save as much drywall as you can. I love seeing the great progress you are making.
If the drywall has mouse urine on it, it's actually dangerous to keep. Two women, a mother and daughter, died of the Hanta virus in Virginia. They were sweeping out an old shed that was infested with mice. They inhaled the infected dust and became sick with respiratory issues and died shortly after. I'm glad to see he was wearing a mask while removing the insulation.
@samsmom1491 very true.
My heart goes out to you. I pray you never feel like dying again.
The house looks so good now that you have cleared out the walls and the old insulation. I hope you get rid of all the mice, not nice. The Brooke looks so cool and your clearing of the small trees makes such a difference. You have been so busy this week. Well done you. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The cabin this open gives finally the clarity you needed! I personally would make a U kitchen. So, the wall from the bathroom, then u der the window that wall and at last, as long as the bathroom wall is, use that length equally on the third wall.. That way you can wrap it around your island, it is ideal to walk in and out from. You really will like the counter space you create that way, counter space is not only handy with coo,ing but also with hobbies and so on 😃
And I was shocked by how many mice were in that wall!! So, those stains in the walls and on the floor weren't only mold but mice pee... yuck! 😵💫 lol!
Happy to see that gone!
You first looked lost but... you are finding yourself and your way every new day... 💪👌😎
And I am a giant fan of trail camera's! Loved watching that footage!
Thank you for taking us along with the both of you!
Be safe, take care!
Thanks for sharing your life with us, it's very interesting and motivational! 😊 From Norway 🇧🇻.
Tyler I can't believe how well you've cleared the outside.
Your getting on so well with the cabin.
Sending you and Dobby love from the UK
So excited to see a new upload , Im so enjoying being able to watch this journey you and Dobby are on .
The place is really looking fantastic now
Hi Tyler, 😁 glad things are going good..😁🤗👍🏻 love what you’re doing to the property outside..looks amazing..🤗👍🏻 the inside of the cabin is coming along nicely..👍🏻 and yes, your thoughts on the layout sounds like it’s a good plan…have a good week and see you and little Dobby next weekend…😁🤗👍🏻😍
So many possibilities with your property. I do like your little swing chair. I look forward to seeing your progress each week.
Best Halloween movie, High spirits, Liam Neeson and Steve Gutenberg, and Peter O Toole , brilliant movie .
It's looking amazing!
YOUR A VERY HARD WORKING MAN PROPERTY IS LOOKING GREAT,SPRING TIME WILL LOOK AWESOME ,YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT GETTING SOME BEEHIVES FOR THE SPRING TIME.MAYBE A FEW CHICKENS.
Awesome Dude !! Say Hi to the Dobbster ;)
Glad to see again.
