When I was a child, we used to trek the woods all the time just like that. I'm way past that now, but you take me back to my childhood. Thank you for that. Oh, to be young and fit again! Enjoy it whilst you can. Youth is gone way too soon.

We have a large spruce tree in our yard. My son, as a young boy, built layers of boards amongst the branches. He would sit and play up there for hours. I’ve never taken the boards down. They are a reminder of my sons boyhood. I’m 70 and he is 32 now and has a son of his own.

It is a wise man who wears blaze orange when exploring deep in the forest. I have watched so many youtubers go 'off trail' not wearing orange. I warn them constantly between hunters (legal/poachers) and the need to be seen should you fall and need to be rescued you should always wear blaze orange (year-round) when going into the forest or off trail. I think you are the first one I have seen in a long time smart enough to do that during your walks into the forest (on your own land no less). Good job! ~Kevin

Great to see more of the land through your eyes. The one bit with the creek and the sounds of the water I could put on a loop and relax to it for hours.
Lots of metal debris from those before you. Wood will degrade quickly but Mother Nature works slower on the metal but she does take it back. I suspect those metal buckets simply predate our extensive use of plastic.
As for your windows, keep your eyes open for used ones. It is cheaper to adjust toe window opening to fit the used window then getting a custom one to fit the opening. In the meantime I would suggest a good temporary improvement would be plastic sheeting on the outside to work like the old storm windows and then a sealed plastic sheet (shrink wrap) on the inside to reduce the air movement on the glass.
You mentioned the island in your kitchen. Build one on wheels so you can move it around or even tuck it away when not needed. Again this is for later. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Get the cribbing under the floor sorted out first.

Windows: replace the one by your front door with a large double pane sealed unit non opening picture window. Can easily find used ones for free or get a surplus one from a glass shop as a mis sized remainder. Easy to frame in if smaller than existing opening. Large picture window is nicer for view and doesn’t need to open cause cross breeze can come from door

Each time you head for a hike make it the goal to clear a walking path up your hill , expand it to an atv trail after. It takes time but I've cut trails before and it wont take more than a summer if you hike out with a couple batteries and a sawzall.

Thank you for making this video and sharing it. The rocks from the rock walls, if you could move enough of them to the corners of your cabin, you might be able to rebuild piles, or stacks to stabilize the corners of your cabin. But it would probably be easier to chain saw cut logs to build stumps for that. It looks like you would have to clear the trees, then level out the hilly climb for a driveway to your cabin. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and be careful not to overstrain your back!

You have some very interesting rock formations on your land, though some of them may be parts of rock walls. I’m so happy seeing how you are enjoying your new home. The house will get done in good time. Don’t stress about having it done. It’s always worth taking your time & getting it the way you want it. You’re doing a great job anyway 😉. I have had three of those Lowes Troy Built weed eaters. They're junk. The pull-starts go bad easily and they're hard to start. I finally bought a Stihl and it's great. I don't waste my energy and time trying to start it and it is powerful. Spend 50 more dollars and get a good one. I've done what you're doing and now enjoying it. you have to have the right tolls for the job. They're not that expensive if you look hard.

Weed eaters: I’ve had two Stihl models. The last one didn’t have your spreader bar. Use premix fuel. One can can last more than a month here and it doesn’t have corn syrup in it so it stays good longer.
Building up on that flat spot could be killer. Keep some trees for the wind.

Such a beautiful property Tyler. I work hard on my homestead too and really appreciate the passion you're putting into improving the land. Please get ear protection whenever using noisy equipment like leaf blowers, mowers, bush wackers, string trimmers, chain saws, etc. I wish someone would've shared that with me when I was younger. Now, at 70 yo I have tinnitus! It's basically incurable too and annoying to debilitating. You do NOT want tinnitus! Fortunately I got my head out of my arse at age 40 yo and started wearing ear protection regularly. My tinnitus is manageable thankfully but only because I protect my ears/HEARING without fail. Tinnitus in it's most severe form is a miserable existence that can drive people crazy. The former CEO of Texas Roadhouse restaurants took his life because of tinnitus. It's important to start protecting your hearing ASAP. I don't mean to be morbid or bossy. It's just THAT important and I care about you. ❤️ 🦻 🦻

I always wear hearing protection and have exceptional hearing, until I took a blow to the head and instantly got a permanent tinnitus. Horrific but you get used to it..I miss silence. I own 3 cabins that are exceedingly quiet but I can never quite appreciate how quiet.

I am just loving your channel. I live in my tiny house on wheels on Vancouver Island and it's my dream to buy a remote piece of land and do what you are doing. I don't think my cat Sophie will be as adventurous as Dobby though 😂🐈🤷🏻‍♀️. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure and making it seem attainable for those of us who dream of the same thing.

You've really come into your video style and editing and you're doing so good with these uploads! I keep being shocked at how much walking you do to set up camera angles, having to go back for them or set them up and rewalk the same steps. It's a talent and a skill and adds so much to the feeling and story and experience you're sharing with us all!

Do you have a lot of maple trees on the property? Many of those rusted buckets looked like they were for collecting sap.

Yeah, they are on the property. I assumed the green barrels that I found previously were all for syrup. Definitely something I’ll continue with cause maple syrup is quite tasty! 🙏

If you can afford it, Stihl makes great brush cutters, chain saws, pole saws, etc. We have had ours for many years and lots of hard work.

I just found your cabin series and I just binge it over here in Sweden. I love your videos. So raw and so close. You are doing exactly what I am dreaming about, but can't do due to a lot of reasons. So, it is very, very nice to follow you on this journey. Keep rocking, you are doing so good. Be kind to yourself and sometimes pat yourself on the shoulder. Might sound weird, but when that inner voice is a little too hard, a pat on the shoulder goes a long way.

Such wonderful property!! Are you surprised at all the discarded trash you are finding?? Also not sure if you mentioned it, but how many acres do you own?? The land is amazing and the cabin is a work in progress that you get to make your own. Thanks for taking us on this adventure.

    • @tyleranddobby
      @tyleranddobby  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Thank you! Haha not surprised. Back home we have a polish settlement and a lot of farming lands that are very similar to this cabin so I wasn’t surprised. The newer trash did surprise me but more put me on edge abit because I realized how recent people have been there camping.
      45 acres.
