- A huge hello and welcome to all of my new subscribers - I'm honoured that so many people are interested in my new adventure!
This week - not the video I'd planned (turns out everyone was right, and projects always take twice as long as you think) - but an inside tour of the cottage! I've been living here for two weeks and it's starting to feel like home.

MY STORY:
I've been stuck in rut for the past couple of years - both my parents passed away at the end of 2022 and since then I've been navigating grief, burnout and just being scared to make a change. I decided that 2024 was going to be the year I set my life on fire, because life is too short to spend all of it wondering just what the point is. So I quit my job, sold my house in the suburbs and bought a 150yr old cottage in the middle of the Scottish countryside. Follow along as I attempt to renovate this little stone house, build a backyard homestead and hopefully fall in love with life, all over again.
Spoiler alert - I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, so almost anything could happen
your parents would be so very proud of you
Thank you! I hope so 😊
Jude, I also live in Aberdeenshire. If you need a hand one day with anything give me a holler! More than happy to help
Great offer 😊
Thank you much!! (I’m sorry - TH-cam is bad at comment notifications!)
What a wonderful comment!
My goodness, the gods smiled on you when you found this place. Utter heaven!! Your views out the back door are to die for!! Well done, Jude!!
I was thinking the very same thing! 😊
I love your home and property and can't wait to see what you do to it! Congratulations on the purchase of this beautiful home! Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Your home is so charming. I can’t wait to see what you accomplish next! Good luck!
That cottage property is beautiful and so peaceful. You must not have deer because you have roses! I homestead 12 forested acres with a large 8 foot tall fence around my garden. I'm a 71yo retired widow and living solo with my adopted and formerly feral cat Poppy. I feel very fortunate to live my simple life in harmony with Nature. It's grueling work at times but absolutely magical too. Your cottage home already looks cozy and attractive. I love the houseplants! Best wishes Jude.
I love the houseplants, too. How careful do you have to be about privacy, covering the windows that is.
P.S. You don't sound Scottish.
Hi Jude, I'm Renee` from the USA. When I first saw your cute little cottage, I was ready to pack up and move to Scotland. 😂😂You have found yourself a little spice of Heaven there! Can't wait to go along with you in your journey.🥰
You have the loveliest smile and gentlest energy.
I can’t wait to go on this journey with you.
Thank you so much!!
A little slice of heaven in this chaotic world. Your cottage just gives you the biggest hug xxx
My Scottish grandma would have said ‘Tis a bonnie wee hoose’. It’s just lovely Jude -can’t wait to follow along!💕🇨🇦
America says hello! As someone who has lived in the country, I particularly recommend waiting until you've made it through one winter to see what breaks or freezes before planning where money is going. Just a thought. The cottage looks sturdy and has great views. V. well done.
Hello America!! Very wise words - and that’ll probably happen anyway! Hopefully I’ll make it through the cold weather relatively unscathed!
I know you will, have fun!@@rewildingjude
You look so happy; good living and knowing who you are and what you want at such a young age is a blessing.
It looks fabulous Jude. It does look very homey and inviting. You’re doing a terrific job. There’s no hurry. Enjoy every minute of every day.
The cottage is just gorgeous!! So cozy and inviting. It feels like it was loved and is now being loved again.
Ask your solicitor for a copy of your Title Deeds, that will give you a clearer idea of the cottage date (although bear in mind it is likely to have been built long before the records started). You could also try your local library for some area archiving help to find out. Your blankets are beautiful. I wish you much happiness and peace in your new adventures and new home.
I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your parents and your very understandable struggles to adjust and find a happier direction in life. How brave you’ve been in buying this lovely cottage and starting over in a very beautiful, rural setting which is ‘far from the madding crowd’. I look forward to following your journey!
You look like the sweetest, gentlest person. Love your smile. Lovely cottage, beautiful garden and the view is awesome.
Another American here. I’ve never been to Scotland but I would move to your cottage in a heartbeat. I totally adore it. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. ❤️❤️🇺🇸
Congratulations again on your beautiful cottage. I can’t believe you have only been there a few weeks & your living room already seems so warm & comfortable. Totally Hygge cozy vibes. There’s no rush it all takes time. Im in my house 4 years now. The best advice about the boxes is set a goal one box a day. It seems very overwhelming. It’s great that you have those two rooms upstairs for storage that way you can tackle the boxes out of the way from the rest of your living space. It feels neater that way. I can’t stand the smell of cardboard boxes. A little PTSD from my last big move hahaha. Wishing you so much happiness. Your Mom & Dad I’m sure are so very proud of you. They are loving you even more from heaven. ( Maria Shrivers book I’ve Been Thinking reference. She found a book from her Mother the inscription said, “I’ll love you more from heaven”) Enjoy your new home. 🙏🏻🕯️💕
Hi, i just saw your video of your cottage home and i love it very much, wishing you the very best. I will be looking forward for your next vidio ❤
Watching from Massachusetts in the USA. I also live in a 150 yr. old cottage and it has had its trials, but I love where I live. Good luck with your new home. The view is stunning.
Jude, you could consider rugs as a temporary measure for your bedroom. Thermal curtains might help during winter.
You might need to get the chimney swept before you need to use the open fire.
An airfryer might be a better option than a new oven. You'd also be able to use it for dehydrating homegrown chillies to make spices, etc
Hi Jude, I just adore your little cottage. Already you have it looking like a home and it can only get better from here. Brilliant outlook that you know that this will take time but all the better for your followers as we can enjoy your weekly goings on while you make progress. You are so watchable. xxx
You are living my dream. I want to return to Scotland and live out my retirement there. You encourage me to realize I might be able to if I push through the doubt. Love your new home.
I too am going to Scotland to live, just got to find the perfect for me place 😊
Face the fear and do it anyway ❤❤
That view from your kitchen window is heavenly.
What a wonderful place you own.
What a beautiful garden and landscape!
I could not resist turning the dining room into the sweetest little office/library. That said, the views are nothing but spectacular and the cottage is shockingly cosy and ever so full of potential. Loved the tour!
Your home reflects who you are - it's beautiful in every way.
I've got only one word: WOW. I want to be your guest when you start your homestay. I need to fall in love with life too and look at your many collections of things.
The Hard Part is over..making the decision to change your life. Now is just planning..prioritizing…and accomplishing your dreams…BEST OF LUCK!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful and cozy home with us!!!
Such a lovely, cozy, cottage! Your outside area is beautiful. I look forward to seeing your journey.
After seeing the shape the outbuildings were in, I’m happily surprised how lovely the rooms of the house are. I’ve lived through ALL of the old house updates and repairs for years before tackling the inside renovations that you can actually see. You’ve done a great job making it cozy.
What a homely, charming cottage. It’s much better than I thought it was going to be. Your living room is going to be so cosy when you get that fire lit.
Homey
🤭
Seeing y’all use the word “homely” like you do, kinda makes me giggle because us Americans would say “homey”……because homely means ugly. I remember thinking …oh my gosh they just call people’s stuff ugly to their face! 😬🤭🫣
How wonderful and cozy!! I'm a 70 yr old long time viewer, and I wish for you all of the happiness and joy that you so deserve..
Thank you so much!
This is a lovely vlog 🤗
Don’t worry about being slow, take your time. One life, enjoy the baby steps, one at a time. Am I envious of your situation?
Yeah! 🤗
I stopped in to see how things are progressing. Im curled up with my little dog about to nap. There is a peace around you now dear. You’re on an adventure but it is your path. Grats. Your voice has a calm and excitement that hasn’t been there in quite some time. Proud of you, strong resilient spirit!! If I slip into a calm nap, TY I feel the calm…HUG bbs
Beautiful! I'm in the US and Scotland is my bucket list and always loved Loch Ness! Love old homes and history! Keep us posted!
Wow! I absolutely love your new home. How lovely to find another crocheter and knitter. Your collection of dish cloths is very impressive. Love all your blankets. Wonderful that you have them to remember your mum by. Thanks for sharing your new home with us all. xx
You’ve been in my thoughts, Jude, and it was lovely to see your new home. Thank you for sharing it with us! It looks so incredibly cozy. Like you, I loved the colour in the kitchen. It looks so warm and welcoming. Good luck on your journey! Can’t wait to see where it takes you and your little cottage. ❤
It's a real pleasure to come and find you on Sunday evening. I was always amazed how you used to post Stranded videos. For a lot of us, it's like knowing a friend will be there once a week to share about their lives. Thank you.
I can't believe that I am able to see your home land! My Granny told us that someone in her family came from Scotland and went to Ireland, where he met his bride. They sailed to America together. You are such a good, gentle person. I will pray for you. Your house is great and I know that you will make it greater than ever! It is cozy and beautiful. Wishing you well.
So many possibilities but so livable now! My favorite things are the flowers on your back deck! Just beautiful! I can’t wait to see what you accomplish!❤❤
Oooo! I was almost giddy when your video popped up, Jude! I’ve been looking forward to seeing the inside of your cottage. It is so wonderful! I’m looking forward to seeing your various projects. Welcome home! 😊
Me too!
I am loving this show!!! Thank you Jude for showing us a bit of your new place and life choice 😃👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰☮️
The house looks incredible for only 2 weeks in! I have subscribed to your channel and I look forward to watching your progress. The land and garden are incredible
That view from the window in your kitchen is beautiful! I can only imagine how cozy and lovely it would be to bake during the winter and holiday months! Just gorgeous!
I’m so excited to do some baking in there! I need to get a new oven - must order one this week! I miss making bread!
Living in a space helps you decide how to renovate. Be kind to yourself and take your time. Opening up your space will happen. As a mother, I'm very excited for you.
Great advice ❤
It's lovely, Jude, and you can take your time getting it how you want.
I'm here for your journey!!! Lots of love from Northern California!!!!!!
You can do it. I moved from my home in New York to Georgia at the age of 65. This was after my husband passed. Bought a 16x40 foot and turned it in to my home, doing a lot of the work myself. I had never done anything like this before.
Your cottage is gorgeous!!
It doesn’t really need anything done immediately which is great.
Enjoy your beautiful home :)
Thank you so much for showing us around your gorgeous new home, it is already filled with so much character and love x
Exactly what I visualize when reading a book listing a “cottage in the countryside” it’s glorious!
Thank you Jude for sharing your new start in a beautiful location. You are a remarkable human being and I wish you all the happiness in the world. Looking forward to seeing your new life unfold. X
Absolutely stunning, how jealous am I right now! Enjoy this wonderful home of yours. Take your time and learn to love it as it is and in time you will realise you have less work than you thought ❤
thank you so much, for letting , use all into your place, im ohhh so looking forward to it,
Your cottage is gorgeous The best of luck with it 🇮🇪
Thank you so much!
Inside is as lovely as outside. Great that all rooms are livable. Well done for finding this little gem. It's beautiful.
Although you have work to do Jude, the cottage is so pretty. It already looks so homely and welcoming. As said previously, the views are amazing and you have some lovely plants in your gardens. I can imagine it's blissfully peaceful. Take care and take your time with it all. It will be so exciting to follow along on your journey x
Jude this cottage has so much charm and opportunity for you to put your stamp upon. Can't wait to see the progress as you begin to make these changes. Thank you so much for sharing your journey.
Thanks for showing us around. A lovely canvas to work with and you've already started to give it a homely feeling x
Beautiful Jude, the cottage has great bones ❤ I wish you love and laughter in your new/old home. Can’t wait to share your journey with you 🙌🏻
What a great cottage. You're living room looks so cosy and welcoming already. Your yard with all the flowers, shrubs and little birds is so beautiful. The perfect spot to sit and enjoy being outside 😊
❤ Thank you for the tour! You have decorated very well, everything looks so nice already. So cozy and inviting. Well done! All the best in your new home with your renovations.
Jude, your new home is adorable. You definitely found a piece of heaven in the countryside. Thank you for sharing your new adventures with us.
What a lovely, lovely place you have found. the views and the gardens are spectacular -- those poppies!!!! I can't wait to see a winter video with your fireplace in use. Thanks for a fabulous tour!
The house is lovely and has great potential. I do understand why you don't want to make the renovations twice, but I agree that you could do something about the bedroom. You will definitely need a cozy place for winter. Looking forward to your next video. Lots of love.
Wow...what a lovely place. Yes, you've got some challenges with the storage and the space, but the bones are there. The outdoors makes it all worth it. One thought in the upper bedroom, to take advantage of the available space, is a sleeper sofa. It can be utilized as a bed when need be, and seating at other times.
Thank you for sharing your journey. What a precious home. I can’t wait to see what you make of it!
The countryside is idyllic, Jude. Great job and Mazel Tov on your new home! Keep up the great work.
I'm SO SO happy that the TH-cam algorithm put your beautiful smiling face on my home page. It is my dream (and most importantly a goal I'm working towards) to move to the Scottish countryside hopefully within the next few years and return to a simpler rural farm life like the one I grew up in as a child. I look forward to watching your new life unfold and to see what you do with your beautiful cozy cottage! ❤
Ahh thank you!! That sounds like an amazing goal - you can totally do it!
I could put up with any thing about that cottage just for those amazing views! The front of the cottage is magical, just beautiful.
Love the livingroom, especially the fireplace and the window. The view from the kitchen window...I'm afraid I'd sit there all day and get nothing done! Overall, I think you've done remarkably well in the short time you've been there with regard to settling in. I can imagine the happiness you feel on waking up every morning and feeling you're finally "home." You always knew your other home wasn't your forever home but it seems you've now found it and that's got to bring you peace. I love your home Jude. May God bless it, and you, in your new life.
I love your little cottage. I really love your plants. What a nice cozy home 😊. Thank you for the tour from the U.S.
Who wouldn't be happy living is such a beautiful place!
Your cottage is an absolute gem and so are you. The light is beautiful. The view magnificent. I can't wait to see you continue to make it your own. It's ok to do things at your own pace. I think I'm going to become quite a fan.
I’m living vicariously through you , loving every video
Thank you so much Holly!
I’m glad things seem just a little less scary for you from your last video. Your home is gorgeous and that garden has peaceful written all over it. Welcome to Scotland 🤗
Love it! I'm from Aberdeenshire originally and the cottage is so evocative of that area. Good luck, take your time and enjoy it all x
You have only just moved in, but have already made your home cozy and welcoming -- bravo! I am terrible at unpacking and struggle to make things cozy, and so I look forward to learning from you. I'm so sorry for the losses that you have suffered, and admire you in what you are seeking to achieve. This year has been a tough one for me too -- I came across your video as I try to recover from cancer surgery and bilateral pulmonary embolisms, struggling to get back to living life. Your smile and spirit bring joy. Thank you for a lovely look inside your home!
Sending you all the hugs - cancer is the worst! My mum had pulmonary embolisms and they were awful. I hope you’re doing okay!!
@@rewildingjude -- Thank you so much for the hugs! I'm walking around, and getting functional. The blood thinners are working well. Can't wait for the next instalment of your beautiful adventures!!
It’s just you! I dare say you will keep us amused with plenty of DIY projects.
Thanx for inviting me for a visit. Looking forward to seeing you discover all the quirks and perks.
Stay cozy for first winter.
It’s simply gorgeous. I have the same rug in my living room here in Australia, a choc chip rug from IKEA. Also, ditch the beds in the little cute rooms upstairs and have one of them as a craft room (squeeeee) and the other as a library. Nice. The visitors can sleep on the sofas and a camp bed in the dining room. There’s a plan. 👍🏼 What a wonderful home you have. ❤
Just popped into TH-cam and what a lovely surprise to see you’d posted. Your new home looks idyllic, beautiful views and the garden .. wow!
What a beautiful home, even without renovations. You are lovely too! Good luck and look forward to following your journey.
Excited to see what you do with your adorable cottage and gardens.
My husband and I are so proud of you and love your new home. (We watched it together). Over time, it will reflect your hard work and right now it is lovely and filled with charm. We are going to be in Scotland in two weeks and it has been great watching your personal view of your adopted land. Thank you so much for sharing.
What a beautiful new home! Yes, it needs some work but overall it's really a fantastic structure and the setting is absolutely gorgeous! I think you're going to have a lot of fun getting it just the way you want it. I'm very happy for you ( and a little bit jealous!). I t
Just found you…I absolutely adore your cottage what a dream, I will been watching with great interest ❤
I love your new home and your positive attitude. You make me smile watching your video. From illinois, USA.
Lovely to see your very pretty cottage and the beautiful setting. You were very lucky to find it, and it will be interesting to join you on your renovation journey. Good Luck with it all. 👍👍👍🏡
Hi jude. Your channel came up as a new to me so I watched it & loved what you are hoping to do, as an older person can I say that you are doing great. A few things I would recommend are checking the below before you start any decoration.
1- concentrate on the house structure first ie- make sure it’s water tight top to bottom roof, windows, walls, floors.
2-look at electric supply via mains, solar panels or wind power a simple system that can be added to later is the most efficient solution
3- insulation of the house should be a priority moving forward as it will return the investment 10 fold. Roof, walls, floors, get whatever you can afford that can be reused if you decide to do extra building work later. Personally I prefer the nasa insulation system blankets Iv used that for years and am constantly amazed how efficient & long lasting they are.
4- stock up on dried & tinned goods for winter, not just because of the weather but the price increases and less trips to shops saves on fuel costs
5- a few good quality mouse traps ( you will 100% need them)
6- go on local free sites etc and pick up as many large plastic boxes with lids as you can ( 100% the best way to store everything safe from vermin)
7- look at the ordination of your house & garden, sheds etc before you decide what you will use them for & where you will plant food.
8- it will be tree planting time soon so if you want fruit trees you need to decide what & where to plant asap get ahead now or you will lose a year.
9- I would recommend that you forget about chickens & go for ducks particularly Muscovy duck breed, they are worth their weight in gold for homestead. Produce abundance of eggs, excellent pest control for your garden & much easier to house look after than chickens.
10 - over the next few weeks look at what other homestead owners in Scandinavia counties are doing with greenhouse’s attached to their homes for solar heat gain & growing winter produce.
11- set up a Amazon wish list asap & put a link on your TH-cam channel, post more videos 10-15 minutes each day of what you are doing is the most valuable don’t waste time on lots of edits people will love to see the progress.
So looking forward to how you progress good luck with your journey
Thank you so much for all your advice!!
Yep - besides painting my bedroom, all my energy will be going on the big stuff.
I’ve been thinking about my fruit trees ever since I had my offer accepted on the house - there’s definitely going to be a Bramley apple going in somewhere!
You found such a gem. You are now over 12K subscribers! Keep that wonderful smile and pace yourself.
Thank you!! (I know! I’m shocked and honoured that so many people are interested in my adventures!)
Your home reeks of coziness! I think you have the knack for that. I agree that the bedroom needs a little lick of paint and a couple other things to cozy it up. Your new place is very livable so I do not see any urgency to do a big renovation but I am happy that you are taking us along for the ride!
Your cottage looks lovely Jude, your plants make it look so cosy already and what outstanding views! You are going to have a very happy future ahead.
The poppies are so beautiful! What a wonderful home you've found.
Jude, I love your cottage. You have made your home comfortable.
Jude....What a gorgeous property. Your cottage is lovely & do vomforting already. Looking forward to see your amazing journey unfold 🎉❤.
Congratulations on your new home Jude! I spent some time living in Scotland and really miss it. Your new home is my dream. I'm sure you'll have no shortage of visitors - enjoy the peace and beauty. Looking forward to seeing this journey unfold 😄
Such a lovely place Jude! Your home looks already like a place from a fairy tale. I can't wait to see the renovations❤
