I've been pretty vocal about NOT needing a high-protein diet for fat loss, and I stand by that! Right now my goal is to get bigger, and build significant muscle and I am not in a calorie deficit to do that, which is why my diet has shifted. These meals are still great for weight loss, and to optimise them even more, add more veggies and starches like potatoes, while reducing the tofu, edamame and quinoa slightly. You can quite easily maintain muscle mass while dieting by strength training and walking, which is what I did to lose the 40lbs. If you want to know more about the hype around protein, I did a podcast episode here. 👇 podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/lean-with-plants/id1502040576?i=1000482850806
How much protein are you aiming for daily? When I are strict starch solution 50/50 plate, I lost a lot of muscle but I definitely lost weight easily. Right now I’m trying to figure out how to lose fat and build muscle without having to force protein down my throat 😅 I will say though, the moment I started tracking and consciously aimed for 100g of protein per day on top of my usual starches and non-starch veg, I started gaining weight 😢 Do you feel vegans don’t need to add so much protein in order to build muscle and burn fat? Perhaps the carb intake makes up for the lack of protein? Really trying to figure this out.
I just made a veggie bowl with your air fry tofu (nut.yeast & no chicken paste) and OMGoodness it was DELICIOUS!!!! Thank you for your inspiration and knowledge. I’m trying to add more protein in my meals.Luv u♥️🌺
So glad you posted the meal macros as I find a lot of vegan content just now suggesting meals are high protein when they're not. If your older, wanting to build muscle or both, protein becomes more important so helpful to see the numbers.
Great video. I agree. When you restrict yourself to a certain amount of calories all you can think about is being restricted so then you go crazy and binge eat.
Hey Chelsea. Love your videos. I’m so inspired by you. Thank you. Can I ask that your referencing the US when making weight etc comparisons include other countries as well are watching too 🙂
You do you but if you do want the easiest way to get labels off your new containers then heat the label with a hair dryer a bit and check the peel and pull off slowly. Works great! No scrubbing or soaking and it comes off in one piece.
Who needs meat for protein when you can have delicious and nutritious vegan meals like these? Come check me out for more plant-based recipe ideas if you desire!
Do you have another recommendation for the veggie stock powder it says it unavailable. Love your videos I'm not vegan or even vegetarian but following your guidelines I've lost 5 lbs this month so far! Thank you!
Thank you for making a stand for vegan, starch based. My neighbors on the one side are Vietnamese and on the other side are Chinese. Not one of them is overweight and they are all thin and work hard. My Vietnamese neighbors have a stove, oven on their patio and they eat rice and from the wok only. I am not against carnivore, it is not for me. Meat makes me sick, smells and eating it.
I believe she said 6 minutes and she did shake halfway thru...but not sure the temp. I do mine at 350 and it takes closer to 8,9 minutes but I dont always use super firm tofu YMMV
Can you tell me what size of container that you are using for when you make your tofu that you marinate? Also the size of container (clear plastic) that you have your lunches in? Its hard to tell the size when I try to go order the container from amazon.
There's a few tofu alternatives on the market. I've seen ones made of chickpeas and pumpkin seeds, that one is called pumfu. I'd recommend seitan too if you can have gluten. It's super high in protein. If you're interested in making your own at home, the channel "Mary's Test Kitchen" here on TH-cam has a whole series of making tofu from anything but soy beans. Cheers
I am also sensitive to tofu/any soy products. Beans are another food I cannot tolerate. Quinoa all depends on the portion size otherwise, I'll have a negative reaction. I'll be the first to admit it's tough to find vegan substitutions.
Oh man so wish I could eat oats, I have an intolerance so overnight oats are a definite no. Any suggested alternatives? I feel like I’m missing out lol
I do a grain blend of quinoa, barley and wheat berries... pop in my instant pot mix with pumpkin pie spice and store in my fridge for a week. You could use that for the base of an overnight grain bowl❤❤
Nope they’re still important. It’s more important than ever as it’s the only thing that leads to weight loss. And meals like this are a great way to reduce calories. Think of it this way. In order to save money, you need to spend less than you earn. If you go out to eat each night and by Gucci handbags, then the predictable way to lower expenses is to stop those behaviours. You don’t need to even know the ‘spending’ but you can still lower it because those things are expensive. Same with calories. You don’t need to count calories, because simply KNOWING the number, doesn’t make pizza on a Friday night any less appealing. Build habits that predictably lower calorie consumption by increasing LOW calorie foods, and decreasing high calorie foods.
If you are eating lower calorie dense foods like low fat, whole food, plant based the portions get to be bigger without worrying so much about calories because you can eat LOADS of fruits and veg with some starch for satiety at much larger portions than if you were eating animal products, oil, processed products…
I eat from glass containers (those from IKEA can also be put in the oven, freezer and microwave) or china of course, but plastic no, I don't think it's healthy and it would feel like I'm eating a cheap takeaway meal.
Great! These work better for me, but do you. :) I love my microwave, and there's no negatives to using it. nutritionfacts.org/video/flashback-friday-are-microwaves-safe-the-effects-of-radiation-leaking-from-microwave-ovens/
I just wish weight would come off quicker. I eat under 1,000 calories a day, no fat, no salt or sugar, no coffee or tea, no condiments. I eat just a starch (oatmeal, rice, or potato) plain and celery and some fruit. I lose about a half pound a week. I walk around tired and weak. If I was on Keto I could eat as much as I want and lose 2 pounds of fat a week. UGH!!!
Upping your calories could actually help you lose faster. If you’re lethargic and weak your overall calorie burn from non exercise activity will be super low. Eating more will give you more energy possibly leading to spontaneously more movement. I would never recommend someone eat such low calories and cut out all fat or salt. That sounds like torture. If you wanna talk more, I’d love to help on a free consult.
Oh thank you so much for responding and caring. I am 68 years old and weight loss has never been easy for me but this is ridiculous. Also, I only drink water, nothing else. Yes I may try a consult, I need help. Thank you again. You are my fav….(favorite)@@ChelseaMae
not to sound like a hater, cause i really enjoy your content otherwise, but i can't when you cut right into chewing sounds. if i see someone about to eat i can pause and skip, but when you cut right into the eating i can't continue watching
Watching your calories and counting are two different things. For fat loss you NEED to eat less calories… but you can do it by increasing low calorie foods and decreasing high ones. It doesn’t mean you have to count them. There are tons of menopausal and post menopausal women inside of my program that are losing weight (and keeping it off) for the first time without counting calories.
I had the same problem. Until...my thyroid levels were tested and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on meds for it. I'm not a skinny minnie. I eat what I want and I'm considered obese. Whatever.
Mine too, difficult to lose the last few pounds, and I'm also petite so the moment I put on a couple of lbs they go straight to the tummy. However I managed to lose a little weight this because I was out all day so I ate less and sure enough the number on the scales is finally going down. I didn't skip meals but I had less and I made sure meals were starch based (microwave potatoes, chestnuts in a pack, delicious and low cals). Good luck!@@mattdonalds9996
From the 100s of women we've coached personally who are over 50 and have struggled with weight loss for decades, the only thing that has been helpful for them is moving away from counting, tracking, dieting... and instead creating habits that naturally lower calories. If that still isn't leading to weight loss, then we modify the habits to make them result in less calories still. It is trial and error, but we're moving towards a lifestyle that lowers calories, not just counting them which doesn't change habits. Counting calories always goes out the window when having a binge or takeout, or events, what matters is that we look at the big calorie objectors (processed foods and all or nothing behaviour) and then reduce and eliminate them. Traditional dieting methods (like calorie counting) have an abysmal track record long term, because they simply aren't sustainable. In order to lose fat and keep it off, you need a pattern of consistent behaviour that reduces calories from your starting point and KEEPS them lower, which is what creating a habit of eating veggies at every meal and reducing high calorie processed foods does.

Thanks! My vegan friend is coming for a visit and this will really help.

where did you get the bowls you made the oats in??? Perfect size!!!!

Hi, its cool to prepare all the mail in on box, especially if i work all day out of home. My q: do you eat the meals cold, without warning them?

I believe she said 6 minutes and she did shake halfway thru...but not sure the temp. I do mine at 350 and it takes closer to 8,9 minutes but I dont always use super firm tofu YMMV
Do you get bloated from these combos? Also how do you know how much tofu, quinoa to use? Do you try to hit grams in body weight for protein?
Excellent ❤

I find these dishes are too dry. Do you have suggestions on sauces that compliment each meal type please?
I use hummus and hot sauces
Manners are quite nice to sprinkle on just about anything.
Thank you for your help. Love your videos so much!!@@ChelseaMae
I discovered some vegan mushroom gravy powder yesterday and poured this over. Delicious!@@ChelseaMae
What are the containers you like?
I find prepping tofu for a few days that it gets dry and rubbery by like day 3 or so. Any tips besides making it fresh every day?
Have u ever had paneer? In india we don’t really eat tofu, but paneer is the non vegan equivalent of that
By the way I like your haircut at this length looks cute

Cream of wheat is a great substitute.
Millet is another good one
Weetabix cereal mixed with a plant based milk is a good oats substitute. low in fat, high in fibre

Cronometer.
