    Beautiful workmanship.
    Back in the 1970s and 1980s, I worked on air compressors every day.
    That Wayne was built like a tank.
    The " new ones" were junk compared to the old ones.
    The old one could be rebuilt, the new ones couldn't.
    BUT sometimes the old tanks rusted out from the inside.
    One day I rebuilt a Wayne "head assembly" and mated it to a brand new tank.
    It was successful, so much so that my boss picked up all the
    "Old head assemblies" and bought the "new" tanks as junk. With all new electronic components.
    We sold every single one.
    You got yourself a new subscriber!
    It was nice to see the same work I did way back when.

    I like that you painted the motor housing grey instead of red. It gives the unit a more aesthetic appeal.

    • @MrWolfSnack
      @MrWolfSnack 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The factory did that to save money and time so they did not have to have 2 different paint booths and assembly lines for painting 2 different colors.

    • @justinecooper9575
      @justinecooper9575 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrWolfSnack Makes perfect sense. Especially since different colors doesn't add anything to the functionality of the unit and it likely wouldn't be on display anyway.

    Watching this reminds me of how tools used to be built to 'last a lifetime', by which all intents and purposes, this one did! That, however, is the one of the downfalls of having a well-built machine for which no spare parts were ever made or currently exist. If you should decide to give a 'forever' tool a second life, you are the one responsible for giving said device life! With rare exception, most cases the part in question is relatively simple to replace (likely why it survived for so long: complication trades durability for precision).
    Add: This was exceptionally well done and I thank you for doing it right. These days, a 'well built' tool has a life expectancy of 10 years, and a cheap one is single use! This beauty could go on for another 50 years, in style!

    As a 30 year compressor technician I will first say nice job👍 . I love the fact you rebuilt your own valves hardly anyone does that they just buy new valves. Also the gray motor color looks very professional. Doing away with the labyrinth seal was smart. I only saw one thing that concerned me. The old air tank . You may have inspected it and if so good job. Alot of people underestimate the hazards of a corroded air reciever. Manchester Tank will make you a tank to order that is very close or exactly a direct replacement. It can cost a few hundred but the peace of mind there isn't a bomb lurking in your work shop for the next 20 years is well worth it. Again very good job should last another 25 years!

    What a superb restoration you did on that compressor! And the Emron paint job is the icing on the cake! lol Sadly, Emron paint was outlawed here in the US years ago due to it's nasty fumes. @@horacerumpole6912 Yeah it's waterborne now. Maybe he means the original stuff that got popular in the eighties, super high VOC, super tough. Painter told me he didn't like repairing damaged bodywork with Imron paint, back in the day.

    • @jstephenallington8431
      @jstephenallington8431 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't because of the fumes, it was because it wouldn't break down naturally, either from any painted surfaces, or after any clean-up operations. The fumes alone were no better or worse than than any other Automotive application. The stuff did have a half-life similar to U-235, (that's an exaggeration, it wasn't quite THAT bad) and the excess was (preditable) ending up in the water supplies. Dupont still makes it as an Industrial Application, AND has a water-bourne version as well. Today, most high-heat applications use powder coat instead.

Ele me respondeu que não estava à venda e que iria reforma-lo. Se passaram alguns anos e eu passo por lá e ainda está resistindo aos maus tratos. Sadly, Wayne no longer in Ft. Wayne, IN
      During the late 1950’s, the Wayne Pump Company name was changed to Symington - Wayne to include the Symington - Gould Company in Depew, New York. In the next ten years the Symington - Wayne Company would experience more changes than just its name.
      The following decade saw controlling interest change to Dresser Industries.
      The Home Equipment (water pumps) moved to Harrison, Ohio.

      Every generation builds some things to last, and some things disposable.
      The disposable things from the 1950s are all gone, so all you'll see now are the things they built to last.
      This makes it seem like everything they built was durable, but it's just Survivor Bias.

    Great video, but at the end it didnt look like it was getting any preasure on the gage? Is it that you didnt run it long enough or that it needs more work?

      It's possible to see in 42:11 that the gage started to move. I didn't let it run long enough because there was a noise coming from the tank check valve that I fixed after the video.

    Cara, uma verdadeira restauração, muito melhor que a maioria dos gringos. A parte elétrica então você detonou! Gostei também de ver que você tem todas as ferramentas e equipamentos/máquinas. Só achei que suas duas aparições é que foram demais, pois você não ´propriamente um tipo de beleza. Parabéns, meu caro !

    1) Timken bearings. There is a name I haven't seen in a while!
    2) Loktite on a Nylock nut? (in the pressure switch)
    That's cheating. I though you would fit new black Nylon in the nut

    Very nice job. On occasion I come across a video on TH-cam that makes me wish that they had a "love" button next to the like and dislike buttons. This is one of those videos. This takes me back to the end of an era I was born in when skilled people were not just tradesmen but craftsmen. Thanks for sharing this rebuild.
