I recently acquired an old compressor (Broom & Wade, made in 1956) I originally wanted it for just the tank, as on my compressor, the tank had sprung a leak. The plan was to transfer the externals, direct drive pump/motor from mine onto the old tank. But reading the history of the company that made it, and how long they had been around, it got me thinking and wanting to keep it original as possible. Hence, why i am here and watching these videos, i think its something i will be doing. So big thanks for this, a great job and hopefully mine will turn out at least half as decent as this.
I think this restoring thing is easy, what's hard is finding all the replacements, and i have found the same type of old compressor, im just thinking when to start... 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭👋👋👋👋
Wow satisfactory work..... Excellent..... Very very good..... I too have an old compressor. Now I m going to restore that. Can u give some advice if I need.....
nice job.In 33:16 ,you connected MOTOR Line in power line connector and connected Power Line in MOTOR connector,of course I know connect like this motor can work normally,MOTOR line and power line can be exchange connection in the pressure switch, but I want to say attention mark on something maybe better for your job.
I love this channel and can watch for hours and hours..I live in NYC and I wish you guys could see how much shit I come across just by walking the streets..I could do this for ever
I realize this is an older video. And you did an amazing rebuild/refurbishing effort as well. But one thing you didn't do. You didn't do a hydrostatic tank test. You have no real idea if the refurbishing project was on a rusted out tank or nearly rusted out tank. Testing the tank for pressure test that could be a serious issue... Thumbs Up!
You did a good job, I admire you because I know it takes so much time to recondition everything and strip the paint. But, that tank needs to be cleaned on the inside as well, and maybe even get an inspection camera to look inside it for rust. If it's too rusted, even if you do clean it, that wall won't have it's original thickness and it's dangerous. I'm in the process or restoring a compressor from 1961, similar to yours. I decided to restore just the pump and the motor, and buy new tank with all it's fittings, valves and regulator. A 60 YO tank at 10 bar can do a lot of damage if it bursts. There are companies that test the tanks by filling them with water and adding just a little bit of air to reach the holding pressure. If it bursts with water, no big deal.
Yes I agree. But you can test it yourself by connecting a pressure washer to the tank. If you have a compressor that goes to 110psi, by taking it up to 300psi it's a reasonable safety test after you've filled it with water. I have an old Ingersoll Rand Type 30 which I'm restoring and I'll be testing the tank that way.
@@RestorationVS Oh ok. I've seen some really bad restotation videos on youtube. They paint raidiator fins, air filters and just really poor craftsmanship. Your channel shows you take pride in your work and the restorations are done correctly. Well done!
Be VERY cautious using a compressor tank this old. They are very likely old and rusty inside the tank and can rupture at any time. Inspect if possible or just avoid using the tank.
@@RestorationVS 19:20 That transparent rectangle - was it there to dim the looks of the brightness of the arcs so it wouldn't look suddenly bright on the video?
@@RestorationVS Keep making content, you have a large audience who appreciate your time and effort. Do you have a sandblasting machine? They're great for removing paint and rust. I would highly recommend getting one.
Old air compressors are like ticking time bombs - you never know when they will go off. It's not a good idea to have a bomb near you... that's why you never repair an airframe older than 10 years. safety first!
