French Coins Counting Machine Restoration - Uncovering the Mystery of a Rare Machine!

- In this video, I restored a coin-counting machine made in France.
More about the restoration/transformation process:
I was the lucky winner of this piece on an auction site. I found it very interesting, and it was worth the effort because we don't see something like this every day. The seller told me that the Mint of Poland used this money-counting machine, then he purchased it and used it for personal purposes, most likely to trust casino chips in the 90s.
The restoration/transformation process was uneventful but painstaking. Many pieces were damaged due to water and time, especially the top. The whole project took almost three weeks.
The disassembly alone took over 10 hours. I cleaned the rusted parts with a 2000-watt laser. It was satisfactory, and everything went faster than with the traditional sandblaster. If I didn't have this laser, I would have had to clean the vast parts manually because many of them wouldn't even fit in the blasting cabinet. Then I would have had to clean the chemical hammer paint, which would have taken me many days. If you want to learn more about this machine: www.sfxlyxc.com/?aff=2198
I also wanted to keep a vintage industrial feel, and I succeeded.
I painted the large parts with hammer paint, but with a light green, to match the smaller pieces treated with messing brass, a protective and very durable spray containing 99% brass.
I chose this method because I can't afford it and don't want to have a chrome bath in the workshop. It is highly toxic and requires a lot of approvals to own such a thing.
I hope you enjoy this restoration project. I enjoyed working on it and am thrilled with how it turned out; it was highly satisfying to see how it works and to have the opportunity to own such a rare object!
Please ask me if you have any questions about what I used and why! I answer them all!
Cheers! Johnny.

Hi folks! Here it is, the most complex item I ever restored! Enjoy watching, and thank you for all your support! You are amazing! Cheers! Johnny!
Even more amazing is how he cleans rust off metal surfaces with a laser-operated cleaner.
The number of parts and figuring out what is missing from inside 🙂
Send is much much better leavers a cleaner surface, and it is more enjoyable to work with him!!! Laser leaves those white lines and messy surface!!!💨YES 💫NO
Sanding such a colossal piece will take a week, lasering just a few hours 🙂

I'm not even kidding when i say that my parents STILL have a machine like this for Canadian coins! They don't use it anymore but we still have it. Brings back a lot of memories counting coins as a kid! Thanks for this video!
I'm glad that I could trigger those beautiful memories for you! Doe's the machine still works? Is it precisely the same brand?
I want to know also

My admiration is you remembering how every piece goes back together after taking it apart. I have a lot of respect for all of you who can keep the machines of the world working, no matter how old they are.
Thank you for your kind words!
Watch the video in reverse, he takes apart a brand new counter and makes it shitty, then puts it back together with decades of character 😅
Awesome Work! I really enjoy the variety of items you restore. Many restoration channels have the same objects over and over. Swords, knives, axes, etc. You manage to find unique things which make these restorations so much more interesting. Love the content and keep up the amazing work!
I'm doing my best while hunting for things to restore. Thank you for your feedback and for watching my videos! 🙂
Да, согласна, что вещи сложные, ❤их разобрать тяжело, а очистить и СОБРАТЬ обратно и ещё запустить механизм
🎉😊
I was more surprised by the laser than the restoration work
Maybe because you saw more restoration videos than laser cleaners 😅
By the way, that's also part of the restoration work that I did 😉 You don't just press a button, and it's cleaning; pew pew; there is some knowledge behind it about metals and other stuff.
You have to appreciate that restoring something is way harder than it looks

He had to move the camera and stuff before he could do something aswell, so it takes long.
A complicated job requiring knowledge and skill. Well done!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you! 🙂
What I like about how you restore thing's is how you only replace a part if you have to. I'm absolutely amazed by what you do.
Thank you so much for watching my videos! 🙂
"No Mr. Bond I don't expect you to talk, I expect you to sort coins!" *engages laser*

Marvelous job you did restoring the old coin counter. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work as usual.
I'm happy to hear that, George! Thank you for watching my videos! Cheers!

And not one screw, nut or bolt left over!
Great restauration job!
A French motor.
A West German counter. That was a long time ago...
Used for Polish Zloty.
A real international machine...
Beautiful work! The choice for hammered green gave it a wonderful contrast to the copper finish.
Wonder how you knew the coils were missing though…
Thank you. I did ample research about this machine. 🙂
This is still one of my favorite restorations not only because of the quality of the work but the process from beginning to end, just perfect.❤
I love watching these restoration videos, I just wish they wouldn’t put so many advert in, this one had 14 ads for a 35 min video clip.
So much work and so many parts !!
Still great outcome and as you said a rare machine!
I love the laser technique; fast !
Thank you 🙏🏼
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 🙂
You find the neatest things!
Another wonderful project,,never know what you will come up with next ,,all of your videos are so interesting i love whatching the tatered & broken objects be brought back to like new & working ,thank you for sharing all of this with us ❤😊
Thank you for your kind words, Diane! You are motivating me to go further and to do it better and better!
Congratulations on the restoration was perfect and congratulations on purchasing this rare and historic piece. Thank you for sharing in this video the restoration of this exceptional French coin counting machine. Congratulations! 💜 💜 💜 💜

I love your work. I love no talking over your work. I love the quality work you do and how well you capture the steps in the video. Love, love, love.
Thank you so much! 🙂
This is my favorite piece of yours. Your work is always impressive, and of course, I love when Hugo and Mia visit your workshop.
Thank you! I'm happy to know that!
Superbe travail et machine très intéressante. Merci d'avoir restauré cette machine.
Merci! 🙂
No kurczę, skomplikowana maszyna. Ale efekt - wspaniały. No i ten kolor :)
Dzięki! 🙂
😂😂❤
That laser thing was totally sci-fi and AWESOME.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Unique piece,in the day I’m sure that was a advanced piece of machinery, but today’s standards I would not have the patience to even think about a restoration.kudos to you sir great video just keep doing your thing and carry on.😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thank you Tom! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 🙂
Wow, that's an extensive restoration! It was a little deep for me... the electrical work and all, but I'm going to watch it again tomorrow.
I applaud you, sir. It must be nice to have your knowledge and expertise.
Yes, it was. It took me a month to bring it back to its former condition.
Enjoy watching! Johnny
Great work 👏 🎊
Wow 😲 Thank you so much! 🥰
Wonderful work...I like that laser almost as much fun as the sandblaster!
Thank you! 🙂
Man, how in the world do you remember where all of those parts go when you reassemble this machine? You must have a phenomenal mind. Oh, great job and thank you for this video.
Thank you for watching! 🙂
This video provided a helpful timeline of events for this news story.
What a great project to work on. I loved every second. The amount of screws in this restoration was crazy haha. Great video once again
Thank you, Michael! Indeed, a ton of screws, the first time when I had to deal with so many. 😅
Better to have screws than glue or welding :)
That's also true 🙂
OK... so now I'm confused... I Know... what else is new... LoL...
Absolutely love watching restoration videos...
I'm 66 and my health and cancer... has stopped me from more then I care to admit...
With this said I have restored everything from cars, trucks, guns, tools, boats, and even helicopters... Long before video taping them and TH-cam were around... (just my luck)...
I was first introduced to a glass bead machine (Blast Cabinet) almost 40 years ago as a helicopter mechanic... and actually have two today, a small inexpensive Harbor Freight model, and a larger commercial one...
I have been seeing the "Laser" Rust removal machines for awhile now, and they are cool on every level... but man are they pricey...The model you have is in excess of $10K...
I absolutely agree that they have their place... I have an older Mercury 175 hp Black Max, boat motor that has been bored out to 200hp...reassembled... then left to sit... The motor itself is pretty good shape, but the bolts and nuts have rusted... and at the expense of removing every single nut and bolt and repainting them... using the laser to clean the bolts in place is a great option...
Here's my confusion...
You used the laser machine for the removal of rust and paint, on the majority of the large items, requiring you to still go over them again with a sander and or a wire brush...
So it suggest that the laser does not get it 100% clean.
If you have a blast cabinet... why wouldn't you have just gone ahead and blasted the larger parts... I know... there will be some who will say that it leaves the surface coarse, but that depends on the metal you are blasting, and the blast media you are using...
I restored an older Smith & Wesson revolver for my son-in-law years ago, it was rusted pretty bad... after disassembling it I blasted it, and yes, it ended up with a coarser finish then I wanted... but a few minutes on a grinder with a wire wheel, then bluing it... and it came out excellent...
My confusion lays with not blasting the larger items in the first place rendering them almost 100% clean bare metal with virtually no follow up sanding required...
Just an old mans thoughts...
Keep up the great work...
I love our analogue world! I collect automatic watches exactly for that reason, but I wish I had the piece of mind, the stamina and the skill set to do what you do! Beautiful!! My restlessness, impatience and inability to figit in confined spaces makes this a no go for me. I would love to service my own watches, but alas..... I can watch someone else do a tremendous job instead!
Update: so much for my analogue world! What an amazing piece of machinery, that laser stripper! Damn! Maybe I just love technology ;-) No I really get emotional when I see old analogue stuff. I'm impressed with all the new technology, but man, the world of Turing is pulling my heart strings!
I know a lot of patience is required to take something like this apart and put it back together however you shouldn’t oil the motor windings/stator with oil only the bearings, if they’re wiper bearings then just the pads that hold oil or if bushings then just bushing area, all the best
Hey, man, this is NICE. I'm impressed that you fond hammer paint; nice touch. Cheers from Texas.
Thank you so much! 🙂
Wow... Amazing.. good job bro. Love from India ❤
Thank you! 🙂
Great restorarion! It seems the counter has the second number out of alignment, but it must be easy to fix.
I love when there's heavy rain in videos like this
🙂
@ 33:44... ROFL... I'm still here waiting...
Beautiful restoration;... well done...
Subscribed & looking 4ward 2 more...
Thank you so much 💓
W💥W! That LaseR cleaner was awesome! I thought you might sandblast but never thought LaseR cleaning!
Thank you! I'm using both, but for massive pieces like this, the laser is more efficient.
@@rustyshadesrestoration You're the first restoration video on TH-cam I've seen using a LaseR cleaner! So, you're a pioneer now as well as a talented restorator! Very interesting coin machine btw!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching my videos 🙂 Cheers!
Das zeigst Du toll, mit einer schönen Präzision.
Danke! 🙂
Never seen a laser cleaning machine before until now.
Disfruto tanto ver con cuanto esmero y paciencia hace usted su trabajo. Extraordinario, muchas gracias por compartir.
That laser cleaner is utterly out of this world. 😮❤
Amazing work 👍💚💛❤️
Thank you! 🙂
The laser cleaning is the most satisfying thing to watch ever
7:20 it's only 7 minutes but it feels I'm watching for at least half an hour, too many little pieces, so satisfactory, it's like a big puzzle 🤩
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
Отличная работа!👍 Очистка лазером просто спасение для сложных и точных поверхностей.👍 Спасибо за видео и вашу работу! Удачи и сил вам!🤝
Thank you!
Great machine and the speed it counts the coins. I think the hammer paint didnt turn out too good for you , you should try get in aerosol which gives a much even coat
Thank you. I'm happy with how the paint turned out. With aerosol could be slightly better indeed, but I wanted to do it manually for the seek of diversity 😉
Cheers! 🙂
You should donate this to a living history museum!
I would do it with pleasure if someone will ask for it.
@@rustyshadesrestoration you can always ask various museums if they accept donations.
Sandblasting 4ever.
And it does not pollute the environment. And of course, more relaxing than listening to a stressful laser sound.
It is exactly opposite when is coming to pollution 😅
The heavy rain add something kinda soothing ^^
Enjoyed the video. From a selfish point of view I like the length and variety. Good work R.S.
Thank you, Jamal! I'm happy to hear that! There was a lot of footage, but I tried to keep the essentials.
I love the colour. Hammer paint is like the King of paints IMO
I'm still set on sandblasting but...
毎回楽しみに見ております♪
Thank you 😊
Brilliant well done
Thank you! 🙂
Excellent work! Love the variety and challenge pieces you do.
Great job 😊
Nice to hear that, Jennifer! Thank you for watching my videos! 🙂
I thought the paint was tacky but with the brass colours really changed my mind, nice job!
Thank you! 🙂
عمر دوباره دادی به این وسیله قدیمی و با هنر عالی زنده و جوان شد، کار شما خوب بود، با حوصله و دقت بالا
Nice work! Sooo many parts! I like how the laser leaves behind a rust shadow at 13:31.
Thank you! 🙂
That color combination is amazing!
Thank you 🙂
There’s so much things getting taken apart I would never ever get everything back together really awesome work I wish I could do this haha.
Jolie travail ❤
Merci beaucoup! 🙂
Nice job, however I suggest when attaching the orange ground wire on the strap, for what I believe is a starting capacitor, it should wrap around the screw in the same direction in which it tightens. That way it pulls the wire tighter around the screw.
Thank you! I'll use that! 🙂
Simply crimp an eye to the wire problem solved.
Execelente trabalho!!! Top!!🎉
Очень круто получилось! Я и не думал, что в такой машине может быть столько деталей! Желаю дальнейших успехов!
Thank you so much! Good luck to you too!
My dream is, to get so much money in Euro, how this maschine ever counted.😊😊😊😊
Never stop dreaming! I hope that you will be going to make it! Fingers crossed 🤞
Well that was a fantastic video and a fantastic work. I never espect that the old mashine works that great. Sub and like is given. Please more of this content ;-)
Thank you! 🙂
What a great project to work on your project. 👍👍
I used a machine like this to work on spark plug rings in the mid 1970s.
I liked the going all the way to cleaning the motor. Only reccomendation is the electrical connections. I would have installed ring terminals or at least wrapped the wires so they tightened as you turned the screw. (clockwise).
Thank you for watching and for your recommendation! 🙂
Реставрация блеск. Получилось классно на все 💯. Лайк однозначно. Спасибо.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers!
Hello my sweet friend you said it's raining there it's snowing here in Saint Louis Missouri I love watching your videos all the time but I wonder if you could speak English please from Linda have a great weekend ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you 🙂
Perfect timing. Was getting ready to take a nap but need something good to watch ❤

What a lovely restoration 😀 I wonder how old that machine is? Keep up the good work; I enjoy the variety of pieces on your channel
Thank you! A French subscriber identified when the motor was made. He said that the 1968.
That’s an interesting looking machine
Awesome Work! But you need to renew the rubber transmission ....
I would be very good at taking this apart…but not so great at putting it back together! I didn’t know that these machines even existed! You just got a subscription and a like from me. Nice job!
That laser blaster is neat. First time I’ve seen that done.
I'm glad you like it. 🙂
Amazing job
Thanks!!!
J aine beaucoup cette restauration car j ai utilise cette machine pendant des années dans mon travail et c'est un retour en arrière pour moi merci pour ce moment
I'm glad that I could bring back those beautiful memories to you! 🙂
Amazing! 😍
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Dziękujemy.
Dziękuję bardzo Michał!
There is a method to add fresh grease to sealed bearings.
19:50 An ultrasonic bath in solvent, kerosene or diesel fuel (dissolves most lubricants) would be suitable for cleaning the meter without disassembly.
Thanks for the tips!
Me gustó mucho felicitaciones
Gracias!
Working with small and large parts was great
The connection of the electrical wires was bad
I wish you could replace the rubber parts and the belt
Wow siempre es con arena a presión, quedé impactada con el lacer😮✨
Me encanto el vídeo💕✨🐋

świetna robota teraz będzie służyła kolejne lata 💪

Your footage of the laser cleaning is better than some of the sellers of the machines themselves. I actually attracted their attention by complaining about their lack of tripod and they said it wasn't in the budget. Like a $20k machine is fine, but a $20 tripod isn't. Sure.
Thank you. I agree. It is good to give them feedback, only that some may improve. Cheers!
