The battery was connected to the usual pre-thermostat used in connected compressors for 230v. After the pressure drops, the pretostat supplies voltage to the electromagnet which increases the engine speed. The engine uses a centrifugal clutch that after increasing the speed transmits drive to the pump. It is a budget engine and is not equipped with a charging coil so the battery needs recharging after discharge. I recently left the electromagnet on because I wanted to know how long the battery can work. After 22 hours the voltage dropped to 10.3v and the electromagnet was still able to work.
Why didn't you do a direct belt drive and a gas air compressor unloader valve. That would eliminate the battery and throttle solenoid. Still a great job.

Although i see lot of things are new after almost 20 years. too bad i became an office rat in my career. Unfortunately he passed away while i was 8 in 1998.. I am very thankful that i can learn from you via these videos.
I really love the things that you make. I actually have all of the main parts for making this compressor right now. A few years back my neighbor brought over one of the small gas powered air compressor that had some issues. It wasn't a lot of money to get it up and running but it was more than he wanted to spend since he picked it up for $20 at a yard sale. It's been sitting next to my garage ever since. After watching you build the bigger tank has now given me interest in building this. That's small one really didn't do anything for me. Most of all my tools need a lot more air than that. I really enjoyed your video look forward to the next one.
Excellent tutorial video. I built one on a locomotive air tank(100-120 gal.) someone gave me. Made it towable and used it on several jobs. It worked great. The only problem was I never figured out the idle control, so I would do it manually. I also noticed with all that equipment you have there is NO milling machine to do slotting and small cutouts. What a budget operation, lol. Thanks again.

I mean, this is brilliant. Genuinely. But, they're lethal in time IF they were to explode. Add to that the petrol. My god. Lol but you know what? Fair play. Completely mobile/strong compressor. So if you're doing outside work? See the handle/bar? You need a half descent solar panel, small charge controller and that battery will never go bad or low. That's the only thing it's missing. Well done sir!

Incredible work ! Seeing as the compressor is for outdoor use and there is no charging coil on the engine. I would put in a small solar panel and charge controller on the battery. Essentially extend its life for a good while before it needs a proper charge.
You can also mount the charging coil to the engine, which is very cheap, I forgave myself, because the battery is enough for a work day without charging, and then charge it at night and the next day I can continue working :)

Nice! Was wondering the methods for turning off the compressor to prevent issues. Looks like in you're comment pinned you can use a mechanical clutch with an electric actuator or an unloader valve to throttle. Both throttle the engine down below the clutch engagement RPM. Себе я такой же собрал , только без всякой автоматики , так как бензиновый мотор тянет компрессорную головку на 0.5м³ воздуха и стартануть её, с остаточным давлением в рессивере , не может. Запускаю ручным стартером с пустым рессивером , а по достижении предельного давления срабатывает механический перепускной клапан.
Взять движок со стартером там уже есть зарядка и добавить схему запуска глушения при не интенсивном расходе воздуха такой сибе старт стоп как у автомобилей
I just built one of these. Finished the assembly today, but it vibrates like crazy. I have been using the compressor off tank for quite some time, hadn't noticed bad vibration before, but maybe the belt is just too old. My compressor has a mechanical unloader/pressure regulator valve that cuts off at a set point then cuts back in. I may add a throttle control at some point to save a bit on gas, but otherwise i keep it set at 130 cut out and go to work.

An idea of genius! I wanted to build the same thing as you. Your way is better. Me I thought to reload the tank and regulate the pressure with a regulator, the valve would have discharged the air to 8 bars and I would have regulated the pressure wanted with the regulator! I watched the video 10 times to understand the electrical part. You brought me a lot of ideas ... You can improve the system with the solenoid, because it consumes too much 12V 0.8A current: 9.6Watts. Try with model aircraft servo motors or reduced motors. This machine is a very useful and practical tool because it is totally portable, but you could add a small alternator to recharge the battery, (it's just a suggestion) (also register the patent of the invention) anyway I give it 👍👍👍

Голову к24 этот мотор не запустит с остаточрым давлением, надо сбрасывать давление в рессивере до нуля почти , чтоб его повторно запустить. У меня такой с СО7б трудится , в ручную -то его не стартанёшь , если пару кг в рессивере осталось..

Very nice work as usual. Could not do anything this nice myself. Looks great. I don't think I would do any welding on a compressed air tank myself, to be honest, I am nowhere good enough of a welder and no pressure vessel engineer. On that note, I think it is a good idea to state someplace in the video or in the comments that any tank should really be hydrotested after welding on it, and that non-pro welders should best not attempt welding on them. There are significant risks of injury when rated tanks are modified. The welding areas can be potential weak spots. A question: what happens to the pressure switch and the actuator when the battery goes dead? Any chance the engine could keep going?
Nice. I've never seen that electromagnet thing . The standard in the U.S. ( sorry not sure of your location) is called an unloader it's just an air operated bypass valve and pressure controlled piston. Compressor build to the high set pressure then piston kicks off throttle and opens air bypass so no pressure is building. Once the pressure drops below low set pressure the piston retracts throttle revs up and bypass valve closes They are very effective however the air pump will continue to run but at low RPM . These unloaders are common on continuous duty cycle machines These. Nice build though🙂.
Yes, I know this principle, but because the pump must work without interruption, I decided that it would use an electromagnet to increase the speed connected to a pressure switch and a centrifugal clutch. My compressor only lacks the charging coil in the combustion engine. But once I put on such a coil, the compressor will be maintenance free :)

I built a compressor using one of those, after seeing this now I want to add a centrifugal clutch.. should be bolt on to keep the pump from spinning when it kicks off. The compressors load is definitely less when the unloader is open and venting VS filling the tank, but its a lot of spinning mass for no reason
@@MillersMotors When the tank is full, the clutch will not drive the pump when the engine speed drops. Only such a situation can occur when the clutch is new, so the clutch linings are pressed closer to the plane, but when I work a little, everything should be adjusted and should not drive the pump. Also, it all depends on the size of the pump, but in my case it is only 220l / m and after filling the tank and decreases in revolutions it ceases to be driven, I still have a minus that the engine is of poor quality and sometimes revolutions can be waving, during this waving sometimes the pump is set in motion, but when the rotation is slow without undulation it is not driven.
So there was this one time i was using a mobile air compressor like the one you built... i was on top of a truck (big truck) where i was using the air when the dang thing ran our of gas... this was while i was overseas in iraq so i had cans of all kinds of fuel... so i grabbed one and fueled up... turned it back on and got back up on the truck... after a minute i noticed the compressor sounded real strong... i climb back down to feel the exhaust and sure enough it had a good pop to it... i open the gas cap and take a whiff... YUP i put in jet fuel lol

Now between the compressor and the one way valve install an automotive A/C rad. and a water trap. Makes a miracle and saves you to have that min. 15m air hose. Your mesh inadequate if you can put a finger through - H&S first. Better to keep all your fingers for the next project.

Simple and rough, though maybe add some power production to keep battery topped and potentially time delay switch to shut off the engine if its not used X period, to keep fuel consumption minimum.
What an amazing and perfect build. Weld quality was nearly perfect and good replica of existing Air compressor. May guess is you paid more than the 1k in material and tool degradation than you would have spent in new one. I’m not whining cause yours will be much more reliable. One question. What did you grind the welds down with on the angle grinder ? flap disk ? Get rid of the battery and use a pneumatic throttle control like hitachi uses. IMHO

You can use a diode serial connected to engine coil to charge battery.

I STRONLY recommend using some rubber mounts under both the compressor AND the engiine.
This will relieve stress on all those welds down the road.

Also, it all depends on the size of the pump, but in my case it is only 220l / m and after filling the tank and decreases in revolutions it ceases to be driven, I still have a minus that the engine is of poor quality and sometimes revolutions can be waving, during this waving sometimes the pump is set in motion, but when the rotation is slow without undulation it is not driven.
So there was this one time i was using a mobile air compressor like the one you built... i was on top of a truck (big truck) where i was using the air when the dang thing ran our of gas... this was while i was overseas in iraq so i had cans of all kinds of fuel... so i grabbed one and fueled up... turned it back on and got back up on the truck... after a minute i noticed the compressor sounded real strong... i climb back down to feel the exhaust and sure enough it had a good pop to it... i open the gas cap and take a whiff... YUP i put in jet fuel lol

I love the build of this it was top notch and very inventive, but the reason for it seemed silly, just buy a longer hose.

Now between the compressor and the one way valve install an automotive A/C rad. and a water trap. Makes a miracle and saves you to have that min. 15m air hose. Your mesh inadequate if you can put a finger through - H&S first. Better to keep all your fingers for the next project.
Great job especially with the prices of petrol compressors there days over $2000 for a small one here in Aus

Man, I couldn't even begin to understand how he knew exactly how to do all the electrical work on that thing. Guess I'll be the one that just goes out and spends the $2000.00 to get a factory made one.
You'd spend WAY more on all the tools to achieve this....so I would be the one to def spend $2k to buy one...lol

Simple and rough, though maybe add some power production to keep battery topped and potentially time delay switch to shut off the engine if its not used X period, to keep fuel consumption minimum.
What an amazing and perfect build. Weld quality was nearly perfect and good replica of existing Air compressor. May guess is you paid more than the 1k in material and tool degradation than you would have spent in new one.
I’m not whining cause yours will be much more reliable. One question. What did you grind the welds down with on the angle grinder ? flap disk ?
Get rid of the battery and use a pneumatic throttle control like hitachi uses. IMHO

П.с. Может он не вкурсе но обычно к компресору или пневмо линии приносят что то а не компрессор таскают а если надо то у него есть РЕСИВЕР в том числе его можно увеличить на любои объем и вуаля
Добавлю!Кран шаровыи торчит внизу до усрачи и смысл от мобильности?!Не лучше ли было сделать 90 градусныи отвод и потом уже кран что бы он в бок смотрел а не в низ?

One thing you should have done is done a coil out of the hot line around the impeller to cool it

An alternator is missing so that the battery is charged 1 alternator 12V for the battery to charge and 1 generator that outputs 230 V for large electrical consumers
