@@somnambulist6636 It's a better architecture efficiency and performance wise. In macOS you can use most of it as VRAM, so there are other convenient functional consequences. In terms of repairability, RAM is the most durable component and does not wear out like SSD, so I don't bother if it's soldered or not. Problems with RAM are very rare and even if you get a faulty module, it manifests itself in early years of usage, which are covered by the standard warranty.

i also got a vivobook s16 with hx 370 and i have to say, the battery is decent, but nothing special i mean, it's better than my 4800h laptop but it's battery is also smaller than the vivobook, so it kinda averages out so amd kept a meh power consumption on these new chips with a nice bump in perf. if you put it to whisper mode, do some undervolting, keep the refresh rate at 60hz and just do web browsing (more yt videos), you can get close to 10hrs of battery. in general with whisper, 120hz and normal usage you get 5-7hrs. gaming, you get about 2hrs of gta 5 at max settings in whisper mode, you barely hear any fans during gaming (set to 75c max) it's fantastic how much perf the chip gives at ~17w stable.
I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t show the charger. I bought the UM5302 Zenbook, which came with a very nice, tiny 65w charger with a USB-C output, but newer Zenbook models ditched that for a bulkier charger with non-detachable cable, probably for cost-saving.
Based on the battery life testing, if battery capacity is also normalized, then the battery life is almost the same as core U7. This is kind of weird. I assume the behavior could come from peripheral power consumption like monitor.
Priced quite fairly actually, I expected a way higher number given these specs and capabilities, my old 2017 or so ZenBook cost me around $1700 with way lower specs.
I'm curious about what makes you say that. On paper their tech seems like amazing products. I myself own a g15 2022 and although I had some issues, after some restarts and updates it's been silky smooth since then.
@Dave2D - Thanks Dave, this was really helpful - ARM helps not only with perf/watt but also to give AMD real competition (unlike Int**). Dave - one video series idea - can you do comparison benchmarks of old gens phones also compared to new ones - like Galaxy S1,S2,S3,...S24 ... at least the main ones in between like S1,S6,S12,S20,S24. And just to check the basics like how long it took an app like Google Keep / GMail / Chrome / something fundamental = to just open and load a page etc. And the navigation speed. Reason : I was using some old phone with older HW and OS, but their speed was actually quite good. So, instead of seeing at least 10% speed bump for each generation, there is only about 1% or some times -5% also. This means - there really is not use spending so much $, since most of the performance gains are on paper and camera etc.
Thin laptops are weak and usually don't survive for long unless you baby them and don't take them anywhere. I've broken so many I went to rugged laptops so I don't have to worry about a light breeze taking them out.

When I click on the box for Dynamic, it instantly defaults the 120 back to 60 and the only way to change back to 120 is by closing and reopening the settings. Maybe I'm missing something... I absolutely love the visual aspect of this laptop, gorgeous design and screen, really good keyboard and trackpad. The build doesn't feel nearly as premium as SL7, GB4P or Mac. I think it's the bottom cover that makes it feel cheap-ish since it's very thin and flexes a lot when pressed.... A 16 in OLED SL7 would be my preferred choice but since that doesn't exist and the 16" GB4P and Edge trackpad is really bad with palm rejection, I'll stick with the S16 for now I think.

@@ZedDevStuff All-day battery life gives you a lot of options for getting work done while you're traveling. Apple had the laptop market on the Boston to Washington Acela route and now Windows gets its turn.

I want this 370 chip in a 14". The 890m is more than capable of being a gaming machine on its own without a full discrete GPU. The ROG Ally runs only a 780m.
Increasing the single-core performance takes the most R&D and Apple is miles ahead in that, especially with the M4. Apple achieved this despite the clock speed remaining the same, by changing the architecture of the CPU. This is something that Android and Windows-side chipmakers, who are often perceived as subpar, would never do because they don't tend to make any architectural changes at all, especially Intel. These manufacturers only know how to add more cores and increase clock speed.

Happy to see windows pcs battery life matching MacBooks. I’m on my third MacBook (Air M2), but it’s thin and good performing laptops like these which might make me switch. Although, i might switch to Linux over Windows.
hi that battery life is just fairytale. i work with tech and intel/amd battery life is always just HALF of what is advertized, so expect 4h in idle/office with this one. its simple math: apple m1-4 macs drain around 5W /= 15h of work/ of power in office use while best amd chips drain like 7-9w with everything turned off /wifi, backlight, bloetooth, brightnes to 20%/. Dont trust reviewers, real life usage is completly different /windows and linux tested with zillion power tweaks/.

Soo, this is what we can expect from the next handheld generation? The 780M is equivalent to the Z1 Extreme and the 890M is 20-30% faster. Sounds pretty good to me. Btw, the ROG Ally X's battery is as big as the one in this laptop which is crazy.

Next time put a /s after sarcasm. ( If you were serious, let me tell you ALL the ram is soldered like MacBooks
@@somnambulist6636worse, the chip doesn't even support unsoldered RAM at this time
@@somnambulist6636 You're confusing repairability with upgradability. It's not 10/10, but still you can easily replace M2 SSD, the battery, and so on. And you can do it yourself using regular tools. Soldered RAM is becoming a standard, especially if you prefer (and I do prefer) unified memory architecture for CPU and GPU.
@@PeterRince why is unified architecture better than standard seperate ram ? If ram dies , the whole motherboard dies , so much for repairability
Problems with RAM are very rare and even if you get a faulty module, it manifests itself in early years of usage, which are covered by the standard warranty.

tbh I'm kinda skeptic after the X Elite launch. You were one of the really positive reviewers before bad (arguably real) reviews started showing up
Yep agreed. He just doesn’t put in the time to test them because his reviews launch right out of the gate. The real reviews come a bit later after people have spent more time with the devices
Same thing with linus. He will sponsored by Qualcomm so he gave an amazing review of the product when other channels had other things to say
i mean its asus wouldnt trust them anyways with such an expensive item.
I'd say x elite laptops are definitely some of the most positively reviewed windows laptops in a very long time. Especially the new Surface Laptop.
Adding to the fact that (compatibility aside) x Elite still beats these brand new AMD chips in every performance metric apart from graphics and leaks suggest they'll beat the new Intels too. I'd say Dave was right.
@@SixPathsOfJin much of the Snapdragon performance has to do with how the company's configure them which is confusing to say the least and also what performance mode they're being tested on which also adds to the confusion. Amazing candid review. I'm now feeling even better about buying the SnapDragon x7 Lenovo Yoga Slim model.

About these holes above keyboard... How are they supposed to be spill resistant if that's where the air gets sucked in from? Wouldn't that just suck in the water as well? Or does this apply only to when the fans are off? 😅
if the pitch is on the size, surface tension should kick in which means the water won't go anywhere else so fast.
I have concluded that I no longer need gaming on a laptop. Having a thin and light laptop with full day battery backup is what I look for in a laptop nowadays. For gaming needs, I am thinking of finally buying an xbox or a ps5 instead of spending huge money for building a desktop.

if you put it to whisper mode, do some undervolting, keep the refresh rate at 60hz and just do web browsing (more yt videos), you can get close to 10hrs of battery.
in general with whisper, 120hz and normal usage you get 5-7hrs.

in whisper mode, you barely hear any fans during gaming (set to 75c max)
it's fantastic how much perf the chip gives at ~17w stable.
Ngl Dave you deserve more appreciation for your clean aesthetic vids
I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t show the charger. I bought the UM5302 Zenbook, which came with a very nice, tiny 65w charger with a USB-C output, but newer Zenbook models ditched that for a bulkier charger with non-detachable cable, probably for cost-saving.
Based on the battery life testing, if battery capacity is also normalized, then the battery life is almost the same as core U7. This is kind of weird.
I assume the behavior could come from peripheral power consumption like monitor.
Priced quite fairly actually, I expected a way higher number given these specs and capabilities, my old 2017 or so ZenBook cost me around $1700 with way lower specs.
i was expecting 1800 tbh

The keyboard heat is gonna be a no-go for me

@@arynbwr The new unit is better, doesn't seem to have the defect of the first one. But I still can't figure out how to enable Dynamic Refresh Rate. Seems to be either just 60 hz or 120 hz.

These manufacturers generally always go in the wrong direction. Consumers want a bigger battery and a thicker design to help with thermals and minimize noise or be fanless, like the amazing Apple Silicon.
