Phenomenal video. I always pay people to put double dins in my vehicles. Never even tackled a single din by my self. I HATE wiring. This video gave me the confidence to take it on. Thank you for this! Just got a 99 Tahoe for my son and she needs some upgrades. Interior-wise, it'll be a double din and replacing headlight switch/HVAC controls which pretty much have no lights working anymore. Beautiful looking truck there!

Height is a couple inches and it is very deep. Around 7” deep.

No, I didn’t install any cameras at this time, although you can with this unit.

My 1998 c1500 gmc truck came with a cubby in that slot instead of a CD player. Do you know if they slide out like yours did? I’m thinking about drilling a hole and making the usb go thru the cubby like you did. I like that bc you can’t see the wires. Other option is to connect it to the cigarette lighters but you would be able to see the usb for CarPlay/charging your phone. Also, your chord end was covered so I couldn’t tell, but is the end of that chord you have in the cubby a female or male end?
If your cubby is like mine then it should slide out. The USB is a female. That is what comes on all of these new head units from what I have seen. My Alpine head unit in my G8 is the same way.

Is the smaller connector on the back of the original radio for the CD player at the bottom?
If so a new radio should work just with the adapter connector. But mine didn't work. I am going to all the connections in the harness again.

I was curious on the overall tuning options it has looking into this set up but want to see the range of tuning before hooking up to my amp
It has a lot of features and very good sound. I might have to do a video and review this head unit and the others that I own and have installed.
They are definitely good, but the Alpine has a better Parametric EQ which is superior to this model Kenwood’s Graphic EQ.

Hey man, great video. Was wondering if the bezel trim piece around the stereo would work on an 02 Sierra 2500 with the din and a half sized stock stereo.
I can’t remember what year the dash changed. I believe the 2002 uses this same kit, but double check that to be sure. I think the dash changed in 2003.

Question for you. How long does it take for the unit to connect to Apple CarPlay? I mean from the time that the boot screen comes on. I have the Kenwood version of that, the DMX8709S and it seems to take a pretty good amount of time to connect. Thank you.
It definitely takes longer than my Alpine ILX-507. However, it is still reasonably quick. If I start the vehicle and back out of my garage, it is connected before I am in drive and ready to take off down my driveway.
When you have the dash and old radio out is it easier to replace the flasher for the bliknkers?

I don’t have a link. When you are picking out your head unit, go to the section where they show you the accessories that you need, and I want to say that it was during checkout that they offered the ready made harness.
Is that parking brake grounding the same for all Kenwoods double dins?
As far as I know, it is the same. Never hurts to double check that though.
Does Crutchfield solder the wiring together or quick connects? 😊
I didn’t peel it apart to see. Whatever they did worked and is still making connection perfectly.
Brandon, thanks a whole lot for posting this video, it was a big help. I just finished installing the same radio into my 1999 Tahoe. The beauty of this radio is that you don't need to cut chunks of the dash out for to make room behind the radio. I tried 2 Pioneer models prior to the Kenwood, neither one would fit without cutting up the dash behind the radio, which I avoided. Again, thanks bushels for the video..........

I’ve been looking into upgrading my head unit but as my 97 c1500 single cab has no security at all (crank windows and manual locks) my fear is my truck being broken into for the radio. So for now the old head unit for Walmart will do 😢
Put an aftermarket alarm on and tint those windows.
On the harness did you have to buy to separate harness cause I can’t find the one like that on there site
You add it when you are selecting options and checking out
@titoham-DCXLsthe harness is not going to mess with running an aftermarket amp and it won’t affect whether you run aftermarket speakers or stock speakers. The harness is simply making the connection between the vehicle wiring and the Head Unit.

Yes, you can leave the factory cd part if you want to and the double din will still fit with this kit.

You have to get a different dash kit to install a double din into the 1993 model dash.

First time trying to install a stereo, if anybody can help me out. I’m installing a Pioneer SHP-DA 120 on 99 2 door Tahoe but the back up camera comes up without putting it in reverse. I have connected the red with red and black with black, so what am I missing?
It sounds like an issue inside of the head unit settings.

They have the same dash, so yes it is the same.
Will this work on a 90 silverado dashboard?
A 1990 has a different dash. So this exact kit won’t work. This is the kit for the 1988-1994.

I have a kenwood, the rear speakers dont produce bass. They sound like the door speakers. Even with bass turned all the eay up amd only on the rear speakers it has way to much treble? And you say double din? What is that?
I have a video here on of how to go to a 6x9 instead of a 4x10. It is a big improvement. “Double Din” is the size of the head unit.

I have seen some people do that, but I didn’t really want to go that route.
That’s a heck of a screen (an iPad) for any vehicle. I suppose it’s all about what you like though.
@traviscarr6536 it is a bit smaller than an Ipad. I do like the double din screen for using GPS on trips. It is very nice to have.

It can definitely be added. The 2 door Tahoe is short and easy to see so we weren’t worried about it.

Yes it did, but I installed component speakers after this which made it sound even better. That video is here on the channel as well as the 4x10 to 6x9 upgrade video. Both of those are help a lot.

Yup, if you watched the video in it’s entirety, you would have seen that I had a hard wired security light installed in my dash piece so I chose to do it like that.
