    Converted my old tahoe to 1 ton. Pulled all the parts off of a 3500 of the same year. Stronger front diff, transfer case, upper and lower control arms, beefier torsion bars, beefier cross members, beefier rear leaf springs etc. Even pulled the 454 and 4L80 from the doner truck. Truck was geared to cruise at 70 mph at 1700 rpms. The 203/205 doubler I eventually swapped in helped to get a axle flipped and lifted 28 foot Avion camper up to and from hunting camp.
    I miss that truck. Some dumb blonde in a Audi SUV driving to fast and on her phone slid right through an intersection and T Boned me. Rolled me 5 times. If it wasn't for the roll bars I put in the roof would of killed me.

    As a Fellow Minnesota transplant, suspension parts never come apart that easy when there are 2 decades of rust on them.

    That's a good video showing a front end rebuild. Showing a torque wrench or two and loctite where needed would have made it great.

    I just got an 02 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L and I absolutely love it aside from the ridiculous electrical issues. Every other day it seems something is draining the battery. Some mornings ill come out to a completely dead battery. I think previous owner installed automatic start somewhere and I need to take it out.
    I don't know much at all about working on vehicles but for someone wanting to learn this channel rules.

      Het a Chilton;s or even a Haynes manual for it. I had a Caprice which kept popping one specific fuse, figured out it was the wire to an aftermarket radio which was cut square but NOT taped off and it was just positioned, wedged in there PERFECTLY that it would ground out on the shell of the radio and pop the breaker when you turned on the running lights..if used it wouldve automatically lowered brightness of the radio when you turned on your lights but it wasnt used......point being - the simnple Haynes manual helped me narrow it down to that one brown wire using a bit of logic and testing....SUPER useful for wiring imo

    Our 2 door is about to hit 329k miles most reliable vehicle in the fleet , basic maintenance , we put in a 14 bolt semi float rear end out of a 95 k2500 pickup which retains the 6 lug pattern with a factory g80 locker, 6 inch lift on 35's and it runs all day everyday.

    Place the brake hose with calipers, 1/4 million miles.
    Also applying an anti squeal paste/compound on pads is a must do.

    Nice video! WIth all that front end work, I didn't catch any mention of replacing the control arm bushings. Did those get replaced?

  • @cotynietling2567
    @cotynietling2567 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great work one thing you should always replace on these is the soft lines on breakshad one swelled shut wouldnt release pressure destroyed a new set of pads and rotors

    • @JohnnyBfromPeoria
      @JohnnyBfromPeoria ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was going to say the same thing, replace the soft lines - doesn't cost much. Also, I think I would've pulled the upper and lower control arms and replaced their bushings.

    You did all that work but you really need to put steel braided lines on the brakes because if you watch the lines while you pump them to bleed them they will twist right up.

    Any and all suspension stuff gets neglected the most on any vehicle. People don't realize how unseen it is the worn out parts. Even the 08 jeep grand Cherokee I bought 3 years old still had sway bar bushings went bad on it. The lower ball joint on both sides were bad too. It's just cheaper to replace the whole control arms now days for like 10 bucks more.

    WHY, WHY, WHY ARE THOSE WHEELS SO POPULAR??? I hate those wheels but it's like the 100th OBS I've seen with those wheels on it. I have them on my OBS Tahoe and I hate them. Reminds me of a Trailblazer. Just can't find any for sale close to me.

    My friend's dad like 15-20 years ago would get like 2-3 offers a week for this his truck which was just like this but red from the factory. I can't imagine how many he gets now. It was one of those impulse buys he made after getting some kind of million dollar payout from a railroad company which predictably he blew on women and partying that he's not particularly ashamed about but ended up with a house, boat and truck. The house now is easily $500k+ with the real estate bubble.
