I converted my 1992 Chevy Silverado rear drum system. Just like he said you don't need to pull the axles. You do have to grind the edges of the calipers as it will rub on the inside on the chevy rims. MAN I LOVE MY NEW BRAKES - THAN YOU FOR AN EXCELLENT VIDEO
I like that they provide a list of off the shelf parts that make it much cheaper than the other complete name brand kits. If you breakdown on a road trip you can easily make a repair.
@@nordiccowboy3430 definitely one of the reasons I chose the kit. Years later I'm still happy with it. It's not perfect but it's definitely an improvement.
The editing to this video, in an attempt to consolidate, what must have a significant amount of recording, is fantastic. Hats off to you sir. Thank you. Great info. 😎
Thank you for putting together such a well done straight forward video. Full concise but complete instructionals such as this are rare and appreciated. That alone makes it worth the sub. I don't mind entertaining instructionals, but having one that goes efficiently and completely (not ignoring details) from A to Z is very refreshing.
Dude…… nice job man!! Love how you worked around little issues, drilling/tapping etc. I’m a toolmaker/machinist and super picky about who I take info from on projects. Getting ready to convert my rear drum to disc on 1993 GMC K2500. Learned about Cunningham Machine and bunch of other stuff from this video, thanks man!!

This answers a lot of questions I had. Great video, just the information, no garbage. Drum brakes totally suck and have no place in this century. But that 'spacer' on the pad is an anti-squeal shim and should have been left there, it wasn't added for fun.
Man, this is impressive! Great job, and thank you for posting this video! I’m going to do the same thing to my 1998 Silverado. Your video has boosted my confidence!
Dude, you nailed it. For anyone who has worked on their own trucks knows what your doing, still if you need help it ain't the whole thing haha...great job on tutorial ,especially the parts list and where to get them and your opinions on the products and services. Man I'll be following you for more.
Great video!! I feel your knowledge in your explanation could have and install was awesome and would have helped some of us not that savvy. But what you did show was great and I completed this conversion in 11 hours. thanks bro.
Nice video. Good stuff. I bought a kit from lugnut 4x4. Haven’t done the swap yet. Now that I saw this video. I’m going to need brake line and a brake line bender and hopefully don’t run into any snags. Great video.
Thank you for a awesome break down on how to do this swap I myself just purchased the cunning ham adapters I feel more confident in doing this myself lol
Awesome video!! Well done. My 1997 is bone stock. I completely rebuilt the brake system 2 years ago. The brakes ar excellent and the truck stops like it should. The 1997 has 4 wheel antilock. No sponginess. I will stick with what i got but wanted to compliment your video.
Wow! Clear pictures, proper and complete commentary and great editing. I subscribed halfway through the video. I wish more videos were like this one! This is the best I have found on rear disks for an OBS hands down. Great job! Going to start gathering parts for my 94.
Ik it’s 10 months ago but I’m doing a nbs master with the rear disc conversion and putting a lsd while I’m there. Helped out a lot bro. Solid vid for sure.
Personally the biggest change in brake feel for me was stainless braided hoses in the front, and from the frame to the rear end. There have been quite a few if those trucks that I fixed that way with no other modifications, as long as everything else is working corectly
@@KingsWeldingandAutomotive If you swap to braided steel lines, make sure your brake seals are in good shape if not the added pressure will cause them to leak. Pretty common with drums and wheel cylinders, not so much with disc. Just a heads up for those who don't know.
I'm probably going to stick with drums for now .. however i will be replacing the master cylinder. I have had the tail end of my truck swing out on me in wet conditions so I will be leaving the rear abs connected as well
Not sure if you are still replying to videos.. but my question is... Did you end up changing out the combination valve when you swapped from drums to DISC? I've been reading conflicting information about the necessity to do this.. Some say that the combination valve between the Disc/drum and disc/disc set up ARE different and need to be changed when swapping out drums for discs.. But then there are differing opinions as well. Does anyone know the correct answer?
@@KingsWeldingandAutomotive In doing more research on this I have found that on my 1994 Silverado with factory rear drums that the combination valve is designed to send pressure to the rear drums FIRST before applying pressure to the front discs. In my case, I am changing over to a disc/disc (P4) combination valve so that I get equal pressure at all 4 calipers simultaneously. This is the proper way to do it. I'm also changing over to a later master cylinder (2002 Tahoe 4 wheel disc truck) so that the entire system is correct from front to back. I'm also deleting the dump valve or RWAL valve to get rid of those first few inches of pedal travel.
@@Go69 thanks so much for doing this research. I can actually confirm that in an emergency the rears do lock before the fronts. I may end up changing to a disc/disc combination valve and post a follow up video. I'll highlight your comment on my video once I do. I do have the newer master cylinder you mentioned installed already. I would only be missing the correct combination valve. Thanks again bro 👊
I got a quick question I know both axles have 30 splines on 90 model and up but are the six lug axles and 5 lug axles interchangeable? Can you take a 6 lug rear end and put five lug axles in it
Ok I know how to do stuff I was seeing the plates and planning on making the plates and buy all the other parts anyway that being said, I do like how if you didn't "really" know about how to do stuff the video tells you. I'm talking about how just one when you get brake pads they do come with that piece for whatever reason you told them to take it off... And that's what's up! 😄
FYI to those planning this job, if your pulling the axles you dont need to dissasemble the brakes like he did. Remove the drum and then the bolts holding the brake assembly on and it will come off as one piece.
@@KingsWeldingandAutomotive This is actually one of the few systems I have seen where they said you dont need to pull the axles. I thought that was interesting. Cutting the backing plate off wouldnt be an issue for a torch or a good cutting tool.
I really appreciate the time and effort. I own a 94 k1500 blazer 4x4, is it worth the conversion. If anyone out there has experience with both brake systems, I would appreciate your input.
When you purchase the brake pads you match them the car the replacement caliper belongs to. In this case you would ask for brake pads for a Cadillac El dorado
FINALLY! A no BS how to video. Great job on editing and keeping the video moving. Thank you!
