    Could be something involving the heater-core leaking into the intake manifold. I'm not 100% on how the layout of those older GM's are, but with the floorboard looking like that it could be the heater core leaking antifreeze into the cabin. Interesting to see what comes of it

    the first thing you should have done after drooping the old oil mixed with water, is remove the spark plugs and see if there is water in the cylinders. if you crank the engine the water will go out that way if there are any. this is to do before any rotation to the engine - because if there is water there, as we know water are uncompressible it will damage the head pistons and valves.

    Should put some liquid wrench in cylinders to break the rings free. Because of water in the block . let that set over night . Then spin the motor over to build up oil pressure and oil to the cylinders heads. Hopefully that should get you started.

  • @777warhero
    @777warhero 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Maybe someone drove through some deep water and the intake sucked up water, then they replaced the filter. That thing looked too clean to be the original filter. Water wasn't deep enough to have any intrusion into the car though.

    • @Anthony-ho4kw
      @Anthony-ho4kw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It came from a dealership. Either they replaced the filter to hide the flood damage extent, or it has a blown headgasket and the car dealership defrauded their insurance. Really, I think either is possible. I looked up the carfax as well and it says that a dealership reported it as flood-damaged while in inventory.

    Most of the Cadillacs had the inlet to the airfilter about a foot off the ground. This would allow water to enter the engine on a flooded street. I'll be surprised if a rod isn't bent.

  • @johnmoncrieff3034
    @johnmoncrieff3034 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    *that SRX is not bad at all.betting that it was probably driven into some high water and that's the flood they are talking about. the air box being open like that it won't have any water in it.the fact that you got it freed up and cranking now, i'd say the motor is all that really was affected. now that you have it turning over i'd say it may have been driven into flood water and whoever owned it was too dumb to shut it off before it sucked up a bunch of water. the starter sounds like it was full of sand or something gritty too.never heard that before. that thing might be a nice little status wagon for you to sporrt around in looks like it will clean up really nice too*

    I have bought 2 motorcycles from Coparts Crashedtoys. I don't think they would mind the advertisement. 1 a 2002 Harley 883 for 2000 dollars that is my bike to ride on the weekend. Runs great and had no problems with it. And just to have something to play with a 2007 Kawasaki ex 250 flood motorcycle that I am working on. Some of them have a reserve on them that I feel is way too much, but you can find a deal sometimes. So if your mechanically inclined and always wanted a motorcycle you might check them out. Of course for new riders I would get a dirt bike and ride the hills or gravel pits for a little while to get a handle on riding. If you can handle dirt then you can handle street.

    Any car that's had that many A/C compressors is someone been changing the symptom, not the cause. What usually happens is the first compressor blew up and scattered bits of shrapnel throughout the system, so that each new compressor gets eaten up. What's needed is to evac the entire system, change the receiver-drier, and more than likely the expansion valve assembly, (wickedly small orifice in that valve, and chances are really good that it's also clogged.) A lot of work, but the only way to go!

Needed new tires, coils, plugs and a battery but outside of that didn't spend anymore on it. I could have flipped it and sold it easily for $5500 and made a little bit but it runs really well so keeping it as a daily use vehicle. Outside of changing light bulbs, not a bad car to maintain.

    The water that was coming out of the oil pan looked like clear water, not coolant. I'm curious how it would have happened though, if it had come through the intake while running it would have hydrolocked the pistons and probably ruined the engine and if it flooded while not running it should have left water (or evidence of it) in the cylinders and on the plugs. Will be interested to see if she runs again. One thing I wonder is if the bottom end of the engine was under water it might have leaked in around the dipstick tube seal or something similar.

  • @Stephen-carr

    The cost of a new air filter that fits a SRX - $7.98.... The cost of making Randy go crazy on why or why not this was a "flood car" - Pricele$$.... Honestly, You could easily make your money back if needed via selling the lights, interior trim, and other parts - there has to be at least $1500 - $2000 in money there - You might even get something for those wheels if you light up the "Bat Man" signal!

    Always assume with flood cars that the engine was running when the flood happened. If the engine was running then it probably sucked in water which does not compress. The engine will then stall with a 'hydrolock' situation, basically a cylinder gulps in water then on the compression stroke the engine stops 'dead' because it cannot compress the water. This stress on the engine means that something usually breaks or bends. Removing the water from the pistons will quite often allow the engine to start but the damage is already done and it could take thousands of miles for the problem to show. I realise that this engine eventually failed. I suggest it gulped in water causing hydrolock. When you were 'unseizing' the engine the resistance was due to water in the cylinders which by agitating you worked into the sump. Odds are that this engine was running when it was flooded, but at best someone tried to crank it before it came to you so the same symptoms. There is no way you can tell if hydrolock has occurred, even if the engine is running and driving, so you should assume that they're damaged and maybe budget to replace the engine anyway.

    If i had to guess i'd say that the engine is still good, great job of unseizing the engine,but even if the the engine is bad , still worth it, base on what you paid for it .

    "NO NO NO " For locked up motors you pull the spark plugs first, then fill the cylinders with the oil let it sit overnight then take the breaker bar and work the crank back and forth trying to break it free !!!
