Thank you for continuing to flip vehicles! You showed me some neat tips, and I recently successfully completed my first flip :) Thanks for bringing up my confidence level
2000 Saturn SL2 with 123k, from original owner. Offered him $500 and he took it. I washed and waxed it, vacuumed it out, cleaned the leaves out of all the crevices, fixed a sticky door handle (with WD-40), and an oil change. Sold for $1650.

I've had a few 850s in my day. Because of the 5 cylinder oddity of early 850s; they tend to have head gasket failures. You can easily catch 2k in reselling it. (Even with hail damage-Swedish Volvo's*not the Ford Volvo's of today* had kick ass paint work) Also, from an ASE mechanic; Volvo brake noise is a normal thing; it's when they don't make noise is when you start to worry.

Worked in a steel mill 31 years. Chemicals work cars were exposed to rotted them out in a year or 2. That car would be a gold mine for a work car. Solid.

Judging from the brake dust on that left front tire, the caliper might be sticky, causing your pull to left and possibly steering wheel. Nice buy!

Solid car. Brick Orange, good color! Timing belt is good for 8 years fyi. That trans fluid looked real good for its age. Working AC is a rarity too on these. Check PCV to keep oil leaks away and enjoy!

A bit of trim paint and nu finish you could sell it for 1500 and negotiate it to 1200-1300. This particular one may need some deep clean fuel additive. I also have some 3m paste for cleaning the plastic lights/signals. $40 worth of supplies could turn that cheap looking car into something that appears to be well taken care of.

12:07 yep it's as solid a deal as solid will get, one owner and all matching tyres says a lot. Also noticed a new thermostat housing in there so it's obviously been taken care of, was it insurance total on the hail or donated? Volvo stereo systems are awesome too, the only "dog" I know of is the HU850 that was made by Mitsubishi (don't think Volvo had much luck collaborating with them, the GDi engine was pap too lol). We replaced our dead HU with a basic model HU603 with single CD and tape deck, it's still the best stock audio system of any car we've had.

truck it up to Portland OR and it would fetch $3,000 - $5,000 from some hipster duffus.... Hell I'd pay $1500+ for a first car for my kids or as a winter car for myself. Great score Randy!

It's a typical elderly/deceased owner car. It's not the prettiest but a little bit of fettling will make it look and feel a heap better. In terms of spend on it, I'd say a good alignment on it and probably doing the breathers on the engine as they're a known trouble spot on these 5-cylinders and it'll probably drive as good as many a new car. It might be worth doing the breathers anyway, it's a pretty cheap job and fiddly more than difficult, and it'll be a good selling point to people who know Volvos, which will probably be most potential buyers as these older cars attract keen buyers that are priced out of the 240/740 market. I like it a lot, in fact I'd have bought that one in a heartbeat if it was local to me. Those transmissions can be troublesome but on a car as well maintained as that one appears to have been it should be fine for a while, and maybe a lot longer if the next owner bothers to change the fluid and filter regularly...

  • @simonwelch560

I haven't seen one of those for a while. Styled like a house brick but reliable and the handling's not bad. Good in winter conditions as all Scandinavian cars are. A bit heavy on fuel I think. They were usually station wagons over here. Somebody will buy that because you get a lot of car for your money second hand. I remember my window cleaner had one with a roof rack for the ladders :)

I come from Sweden and the first car i owned was a white 850 -96. I have never had a car that was as reliable as that car. Whar`s interesting is that it`s in it`s lowesr state of value in Sweden. You can get a really fresh one with low miles and recetly passed the MIT for not more than 500 bucks. The one showed in your video woulden`t go for more than 100-150$ here in sweden. I know theese cars inside n out so if anyone have any problems with them let me know and i`ll help you fix it. =)

I had one of those a few years back. I got it from a friend who sold it to me for less than a thousand Mine was a 2.5 GLT and a manual: These engines are sold as a rock. The exhaust was still solid after 200000km. I had to give it up as the the electronic aircon/heating system and failed. In cold Switzerland you need a functionning fan and a heater. The radio code system is terrible: Mine stopped recognizing the right code. After 3 attempts you need to keep the ignition on or the car runnign for about 2 hours. All problems I had with the vehicle was all about the electronics. Airbag light and so on. Those cars are sporttier then they look.

I wish you would quit calling that Volvo ugly. It really isn't. I like it. Usually, I never cared much for the FWD 8 series, but I like it. If it were a RWD, non-turbo 2,7,or 9 series, you'd really have something that's sought after. But I bet this could bring $1,500 easy, even with the dents. If I had it, I'd drop it off to my buddy who is a PDR man and have him work on all the dents & dings when he has time for a cheap price. Too bad it's a leather car. Volvos and Jags have leather that absolutely desinegrates in no time. Oh, yeah, why not have Sam's restore the headlights on the Audi?
