"Fairytale" is pretty much the Moffat aesthetic. It's going very much further into the fantasy feel from here on out - wonderful, romantic brush strokes and bold ideas.

Fully agree, definitely got that kinda aethereal fairytale way about it for sure!

Ah, the brush strokes. What an epic episode that was. One of my top 3, I cry no matter how many times I watch it.

This not the first episode filmed for this season. Rory had yet to be cast when they started filming. Timey Whimey even behind the scenes.

Love the Matt Smith and Moffat era. So many people didn't give it the respect it deserved during its release - I get it, I grew up in the RTD days too, but wish more people would allow nostalgia to subside and accept the Smith / Capaldi years are just as great as the Eccleston / Tennant years

@@sallyatticum in my humble opinion, the reason the show has lasted so long is that there is something for everyone. I personally like the Moffat era because of the long game storylines, the fact that you get breadcrumbs that you might not even realize is important until the pay off, and I really like what they did with the 11th and 12th Doctors. I like to be challenged when I watch things. Not everyone does. When the show gives a little to everyone, no one is going to be happy all the time.

    • @sallyatticum

And my fav era (Capaldi/Smith) is here. Series 5 is in my top 3, so really excited to see your reactions.
It’s too late by now, but if you haven’t watched it yet, 5x2 is a good episode to react (especially for Amy/Doctor relationship).

"you know what it is" "what" "its a crack" *the doctor walks away credits roll*. this episode is great uses time travel well with amelia and introduces elements like the silence and the crack things that follow through smiths hole story also the fary tail elements mothat does do horror but he also does alot of fary tail stuff with his doctors. also the witty dialoug and banter is great showing the people in amys life establishing them while the doctor does his techno babble. also removing the tardis and screwdriver are great putting the doctor more on his toes all in all love it especially the intro just pure hype. great reaction as per usual

Series over, perfect ending 😂Agree, really great start to highlight how Moffat loves using the time travel aspect, and introduce some BIG parts of the story he wants to tell going forward! Loved that too, simple thing script wise to do that help establish what's going on. Really amazing 1st ep!! Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed!!

May I suggest the name Mott for one of the adipose as an ode the legendary Wilfred Mott?
I struggled with early Matt Smith and the early parts of this era in general. I found it a bit shiny and Matt just didn't have the edge or the darkness I felt he needed. He did grow into that over time though as I'm sure you know
As always there are a bunch of cameos. Jeff for example is Luther from Umbrella Academy, that was fun to realise on a rewatch. And these days Arthur Darvill is also a time traveller in his own right, having gone from playing Rory to playing Rip Hunter on Legends of Tomorrow. I think Stephen Moffat has said one of his biggest regrets is having Olivia Coleman in this episode because he wishes he saved her to do something much bigger
Finally, young Amy is played by Karen Gillan's cousin. They actually hadn't met in person until filming this

Awwh, I love Mott for him, perfect name 🥺
That's fair enough, it definitely does start very shiny and new like you said, but do agree that he DEFINNITELY grows into the darker edge of it!
Yes! Recognised Jeff from Umbrella Acadmey, but kicking myself that it took your comment to make me realise that Rory was Rip Hunter!!!!! Oh my god. Agree with Moffat there, always gonna kick yourself for not giving Academy Award Winner Olivia Colman more!
That I did know! Though didn't realise that they hadn't met in person until filming 😂

Wow. I never got the Peter Pan and Wendy reference, but now it is so obvious! The Eleventh Doctor is definitely more of a boy who never grew up than the previous Doctors. (It's one of the things that I don't really like about this era. The Doctor is a bit childish. Moffat's jokes don't really land for me.) But I do like this episode very much!
