You probably aren't aware of Patrick Moore, who the Doctor mentions in the conference call. He was a bit of a British national institution. He presented a monthly astronomy programme on the BBC called "The Sky at Night". He presented it for over 55 years hardly missing an episode. This made him the longest presenter in TV history. He was also the typical British eccentric known for appearing on many shows often playing the xylophone, which he was very good at. Sadly he died a couple of years after this episode was first broadcast.
The publicity around Amy was pretty funny. Before this series aired the PR shots were of her in her policewoman's uniform and almost everyone assumed, as you did, that she was supposed to be an actual policewoman. Only a few people in the press went, "Hang on, that's not very realistic looking", but they assumed the programme was just getting it wrong. Yes, a kissogram is like a strippogram, except she doesn't take her clothes off. You could argue that including a slightly risque element like that in what was supposed to be a family show is a bit seedy, but we were all so excited about the writer of Blink taking over the show that we were prepared to overlook things like that.
I vacillate between 2 Doctors as to who is my favourite. But I can say for sure this is era of my favourite show runner. This,to me, is the best story telling in modern Who. Smith's Doctor, Moffat's story telling, compelling companions and Murray Gold's score - it doesn't get better than that.
The Doctor Vision thing was something Steven Moffat wanted to do in this episode to show how the Doctor processes information. Oddly enough the chat show host Graham Norton also called Amy's profession a 'polite word' for a stripper when he interviewed Karen Gillen. I don't know if they're still around much but they were a thing in the 90s and generally very different to strippers. It was something teenage girls might do for a bit of extra cash and seen as fairly harmless fun. Possibly Moffat was dating himself when including it in the episode (?). Silence Will Fall
Personally 11 isn’t my favourite Doctor but 11:35-12:06 is one of my favourite moments from him. That scene really solidifies his stance as The Doctor and the fact that he’s taking over the reigns. His theme song playing in that part also makes it stand out even more. It’s a memorable and powerful introduction for him.
A brilliant start to a new Doctor's era - probably my favourite post-regeneration episode of the entire series (though the 5th Doctor's opening story is close). Yeah, I think the jacket-less look suits Matt Smith very well, I may even prefer it to his first new costume here (though the Bow-tie is a nice touch, hearkening back to Troughton). Personally this is my favourite of Matt Smith's series, and definitely one of the strongest of the Moffat era.
Moffat is one for revisiting some of his plot devices. Amy and Rory are very much Sally Sparrow and Larry from Blink, and The Doctors encounter throughout Amy's life from a young child is very similar to Girl in the Fireplace.
The "Doctor Vision" is very much like how they show Sherlock Holmes noticing everything around him in "Sherlock" (which was the other show Steven Moffat was showrunner for around the same time.(He must have been seriously busy!)
kiss-o-gram is not any sort of a stripper . Its more fun and friendly- for example you might send a kiss-o-gram to someone's work place for their birthday. Its supposed to be a humorous thing rather than a sex thing. There is nothing explicit about it, its more at the fun end of the scale than the sex end of the scale. Its something people often get wrong, guessing the US doesn't have kiss-o-grams. With 10's jacket, well its not quite a continuous link from end of 10 to this episode, we last see 11 at the console wearing it then at start of this episode he is out the door, jacketless. So he presumably took it off to do whatever he was doing that led to him falling out the door in between episodes.
The TARDIS tends to provide the doctor with the sonic screwdriver (at least in modern who). So, you could see the screwdriver design as an extension of the TARDIS design, hence why 11's is different from 10's.
I love this episode and I basically fell in love with Matt Smith in the first 10-15 minutes and I was practically ready to call him my favourite by the end of the episode which he has been from then on. Unlike most people I actually get pretty excited about new Doctors I enjoy change and as long as they've had a decent run I'm happy to move on. I was 11 years old and I was so excited for this new season because everything was so new and I always felt this episode delivered. Also this Tardis looks like a playground and it's perfect and while there will be a tardis I prefer overall design wise I think this one is perfect for Matt and as an 11 year old it was the coolest thing ever. Matt was the Doctor I wanted to run away with, he's the fantasy doctor, there's a lot of intentional peter pan references especially, I mean he's the old man who never grew up and wisks away a young girl in a nighty on wild adventures. He's the grandad whose still a child, he's the mad man with a box.

Ah, The Eleventh Hour. This is my favourite Doctor Who story of all time. Having been a fan since the early 1980s (and having memories of Who going back a few years before that) this is no small achievement. That's very much personal opinion but this season just clicked with me. Eleven and Amy are wonderful. I never had a favourite Doctor until Eleven and nor such an unequivocal top companion until Amy (great to see Gillan doing so well in Hollywood). I hope you enjoy it as much as I did (or at least close!) It's going to be quite a ride, this Matt Smith era.
Also Karen will always be Amy and Arthur will always be Rory to me, like seeing them as Nebula and Rip was always weird, I've gotten used to Nebula more now, but there's still aways that moment when I think about Amy and Rip hasn't had a chance to stop being weird as I stopped watching the Arrowverse shows

There’s actually a continuity probably here When the Tardis is crashing over London we see the Millennium Dome, (White “circus tent” building) it wasn’t built until 1999, the young Amy stuff is set in 1996 so he must have gone from 2005 back to 1996. The actual story is set in 2008 and when 11 actually gets Amy it’s 2010
I completely forgot that Olivia Coleman was in this one. Loads of amazing actors and actresses in this episode who have since gone on to bigger things.
I'm pretty sure Susan was the youngest companion. Zoe and Ace were both 16; Charlie, Lucie, and Rose were 19; Jamie, Victoria, and Adric were all teenagers, though I don't think their specific ages were ever stated. And Romana was 125 when she met the Doctor, which was implied to be quite young for a Time Lord.

She showed her badassery and cleverness and he was all "gooood". Their meeting was maybe a coincidence, but he was actively looking for someone with the right characteristics. Kiss-o-gram (as opposed to telegram). There are also sing-o-grams who will sing a personalised message while wearing a costume. :) It's not a stripper in that she will not undress. Typically anyway. But yes, your mind is in the gutter, as previously established ;) It was a white dress with a veil and sparkles hanging on the outside of a closet. If you recall the last thing 10 did was see rose in 2005 so I assume that 11 crashes at Amy’s house in 2005. Could be wrong though

I got the 11th doctors sonic screwdriver wii remote.... I also got the Doctor Who wii game that came out with series 5...don't do that to yourself (the wii remote is cool thought)

@@Kasterborous1963 Adric and Nyssa were both 19 (Assuming they were the ages the actors were). Susan was the only one, but then she was Doctor Who's flesh and blood.
