    41:20 - But also at that exact moment in time, Rory is trying to be a Warrior to save his baby, but his baby is lost, and he is on the battlefield, comforting a dying man, just as his nursing training would have taught him in the hospitals. I love that the parallels go so much deeper than they appear.

    This is actually the first episode in New Who with Cybermen without the Cybus Industries logo on their chest plate, a small detail but I love the fact that that means these are actually Cybermen from this universe as opposed to a parallel universe

    Okay, I’ve tried to stay quiet all season but I have to say this … this is my favorite Matt Smith season, and maybe even one of my favorite seasons in total. This reveal, as a mid season finale btw, was EVERYTHING I wanted from Doctor Who, and once again proves that Steven Moffatt is a genius when it comes to storytelling non-linearly. 😊

    • @MatthewGCWReacts
      @MatthewGCWReacts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fully agree, definitely jumped to right near the top of my rankings as well!! Such a massive reveal that also just makes sense when you think about it and connect it! Moffat is so good at long-term planning and planting seeds for what's to come, it's truly a work of art 😊

    My dude, I am straight and Rory in this episode immediately entered the 'Yeah, but I'd consider it' category that had previously been solely occupied by Princess Bride-era Cary Elwes. I know exactly where you were coming from there.
    That last bit is simply my favorite plot twist ever, and totally makes sense within the internal logic of the Doctor Who universe. The whole story has a permanent rotating place in my top 3 episodes of the show of all time.

    @Quirderph ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Before Doctor Who came back, Steven Moffat wrote a fan theory that maybe the Doctor, with all of his exploits through time, was actually the *origin* for the word "doctor" in our human languages. With this episode, he makes that canon.

    • @AzguardMike
      @AzguardMike ปีที่แล้ว

      Moffat is the worst kind of fanboy. He got given power to make stuff cannon, and got way out of hand with it. He was better doing stand alone episodes like Blink.

    Call back to the library when the Doctor first meets River. He say's "oh tell me you're not archeologists? I point and laugh at archeologists." What's the first thing the Doctor does when he see's baby Melody? Points and laughs!!!

    one plan that Steven Moffatt had for this episode which was a real shame couldn't happen was having John Barrowman reprise his role of Captain Jack Harkness to join the Doctor's army, sadly John Barrowman was in American filming Torchwood Series 4 at the time so couldn't return, at least we got Strax, Madame Vastra and Jenny

I think you would really enjoy the docudrama 'An Adventure in Space and Time' which is a dramatisation of the early years of Doctor Who showing how the show came into being.

    I love the little bit of storytelling with the forest folk, whose word for warrior is doctor _because_ of The Doctor.
    "We're the Thin, Fat Gay Married Anglican Marines. Why would we need names as well?"
    Edit: I never really liked the Paternoster Gang, except Strax. I know he's dumb, often to a ridiculous level. But I love that his punishment is to be a nurse, yet he still dreams of glorious battle and declares his future intent to destroy everyone he meets once he's finished this onerous duty.

    Didn't see that coming, did you, GIRL! Not just a nurse but a wet nurse as well. I am proficient in all forms of nursing.
    It only gets better. After you've seen the 50th anniversary special - which could be seen in theaters at the time - check out the Strax prologue to the special where he goes over the rules of theater etiquette.
    But before you watch the 50th anniversary special you may want to watch the 1996 Doctor Who movie (say somewhere around The Snowmen). It's the not Classic Who and it's not Modern Who but somewhere in between. It's the only feature length appearance of the 7th Doctor (not counting Big Finish) - it's considered canon but there are some WTF canon slips that are generally ignored (but they're no worse than how the 4th to 5th Doctor regeneration works)

      If this is the kind of thing that prevents you from enjoying a reaction, then many reaction channels will not be for you. On the bright side, there are still plenty of reaction channels that do not pause the episodes and discuss afterward (Like Blind Wave, or Badd Medicine). I hope they're more to your liking.

    • @Llanchlo

    • @pettytyrant2720
      @pettytyrant2720 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Llanchlo In fairness its not really either. Most reaction channels you see the reactor reacting as they and the viewer see the moment. Here its more like we watch a moment, then pause and discuss it, watch another moment, pause and discuss, repeat. Not really sure what you'd call it, but its certainly different from most reactions and I suspect helps with copyright bots breaking it up that way.

    • @MiakaBaka

    • @pettytyrant2720
      @pettytyrant2720 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MiakaBaka My only real complaint with it is that it's probably not, to my mind, a good way to watch an episode. I don't mean for us, but for the reactor. I'd hate for the first time I saw an episode of anything for it to be broken up every few minutes by stopping and starting to discuss it, it would for me break the flow, the dramatic pacing and just be very annoying. I hate advertising breaks and this would be worse. So whilst it's a fair choice to make, I'm not sure it's actually the best way to watch anything in terms of getting the maximum from an episode as the reactor.
