    Correction: At 4:24 I said the hot spot temp for the WindForce OC increased by 4c but I meant 3c, at 4:36 I managed to get it right, so at least there’s that (what can I say, low single digit numbers are hard).

    Greatly appreciate your critical reviews. Too many reviewers deem everything "great" and as a result, the tech industry has been in a downward spiral of decreasing thermal performance, decreasing build quality, while cramming louder fans into a gaudy design, and cheesier RGB that requires their bloated software to turn off. Hope to see a change for the better in the coming few years...
    Many companies are more concerned with making a desk ornament than a quality piece of technology.. :(

    Nice job as usual. I'd like to ask a very impolite question: how comes brands that produce cards for AMD and Nvidia quite often fail to deliver good Radeon cards? I mean, I can think of just two possibilities:
    - they adapt cooling solutions that aren't for AMD cards (you can compare, in case);
    - there's a hint of GPP polluting the air (which may be related to the above mentioned poor engineering).
    You know, I may be the usual tinfoil wearer, but it never hurts to bear in mind all the possibilities...

    • @johnconstantine7442
      @johnconstantine7442 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its the volume they are selling. nvidia sells in greater volumes so brands put their r&d toward these cards. more cards, more money. but i think with the next cards (6x00?) things will change more ot less, depending on the brand.looks like nvidia will have some serious competition in low and middle tier cards, and maybe in the high tier too, but that depends on how much powerful ampere is (and 3080, 3080ti)

For the nexts things, the Bios got upgraded and it's become not incredible but a nice and good start for a first or second gaming pc. to finish, i played with it for a month and it's pretty descend, but yeah... for a few bucks, get the sapphire, but if your budget is not enough, well then... go for it ^^.

    The 5600XT is a cut down 5700. Many custom boards have different models and artificial limits are put on the lower tier models in the bios to keep them from competing with the higher tier models. That being said some of the lower tier models have worse coolers (the 5600 doesn't produce a lot of heat so usually its not a big concern).
    In bios many of the 5600XT's are programmed to crash/enter safe mode if overclocked past a set number. Flashing bios helps eliminate this limit so that you can stably overclock it.

    The temps are certainly concerning but they're not in dangerous levels. I'm used to GPUs operating at 90C and fans kicking in at 60 dB (gaming laptop woes) so it's a small improvement for me haha.

    A couple of things. I own the MSI card here and flashed it to 14GBps using Live update last week, no problems.
    A 2° Degree increase in tempratures for a bit of extra performance is called a trade off.
    I use headphones when gaming, so i dont normally care if my system sounds like a vacuum cleaner. (it doesn't really)
    Its still a lot quieter than my old xbox360!
    I haven't noticed any difference in performance or noise however. Free upgrade???... Grand, I'll take it.. but i haven't noticed any difference at all.
    Even without headphones, I usually have the sound turned up while gaming, a bit of fan noise in the background is negligible and nothing compared to an old xbox360

    Honestly, my only take away from the whole RX5600XT launch is that you should always give time to let AIB redesign their card, if you want to do any kind of spec change.
    These last moment BIOS update that immensely change the performance and thermal characteristic should be prevent as much as possible in the future, both by AMD and NVIDIA, this only lead to customer confusion, RMA, and loss of the already wafer thin profit margin for AIB.

    Steve, maybe it's my bias since I did just pick up a 5700 mech oc, and maybe its because i'm not that sensitive to noise since i usually game with headphones, but I think you're being a little hyperbolic about the new bios breaking the Mech and saying you would not be flashing to the upgraded bios. Isn't it better from an enthusiasts perspective to have the option of higher performance, and then tune for noise? If I subscribed to your thinking, I would have never flashed my 5700 with the xt bios. But I did and have undervolted the hell out of it so that temps are lower than a stock reference 5700. In my limited experience with the card, most of the time the fans spin at 60ish percent (and again I know YMMV) which doesn't bother me. Now compared to a top tier card like the red devil, gigabyte, gaming x etc yes I'm thermally limited compared to them, and I will never reach the max oc performance they can. But once I tune the card the difference will be less than 10 percent with temps that are slightly worse than vs their max oc with 5700 xt bios, for an almost 30 percent savings (279 vs 359 for a gigabyte 5700 gaming oc). Anyways thanks for the content!

    But NOT just in benchmarks but real use cases. Downloading files, Uploading files, Copying Files, Bootup, Gaming experience (load times, best resolution and settings where you still have a good experience, not just pure fps maybe show a game from every Even year since 2010), Heat produced, Opening Applications, Rendering, Noise produced.

    When you test temperature with the fans set to 1600RPM, were their dB readings within margin of error? I'm just thinking that maybe some fans are quieter than others at the same speed (maybe less fins makes the pitch lower, or something). It makes it a bit more complex, but maybe you want to include a graph for temp at a normalised decibel reading?

    *QUESTION!!*
    I'd love to see you COMPARE NOISE LEVELS after adding in something like a SIDE Noctua fan (spinning at a constant 600RPM for minimal noise?) that has been rigged up somehow to blow over the graphics card in whatever manner is optimal... that seems like something people might consider doing.. I'm not sure HOW you'd rig up a fan like that for most case setups so maybe that alone would be something to report on if there's any interest.

    So I am interested to see what Steve says about the Gigabyte RX 5600XT Gaming OC because I picked up the gigabyte gaming oc 5600XT specifically for the revised vbios upgrade. After being sent a 2nd card both failed to run stable with the OC vbios flashed from stock. Clean install, bare drivers and even using utilities like GPU tweak failed to provide stable behavior. For me this was just a bench GPU and I wanted to play with RDNA but I'm disappointed for those who are buying these types of cards with dreams of free performance boosts as their primary GPU. Now this is the "high end" from Gigabyte for this model and I am interested since Steve never had these blackouts during his testing (though I do not know if he flashed his Gigabyte Gaming OC). End of the day I returned it knowing one day I would flip this card and with MIR the EVGA 2060 KO Ultra while still $20 more meant no headaches of instability and poor Gigabyte support. I wanted so much to have this experience be the positive one that has been for many RX 5600 XT reviewers but it wasn't for me. I have been building exclusively Ryzen PCs for the last 2 years, I hope AMD doesn't keep making mistakes (RX 5600 XT launch/No Zen 3 for 400 chipset boards etc)

    08:22 Not no purpose. It does prevent accidentally shearing off SMD's with sloppy handling. But that's it.
    I've never done that with a graphics card, but I have with a hard drive, before the manufacturers took to flipping the logic boards around so all the SMD's were on the inside (something so obvious it's amazing they didn't do it from the start).

    • @Crustee0
      @Crustee0 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would think that "its obvious they should have done this from start" because you already know the solution (this is called hindsight bias). There is another example on this on a more wide and older concept, archimedes screw. Nobody thought (or implemented) until recent years that instead of rotating the screw, you can turn the tube around it instead (with scoops attached to the tube bottom) and its actually a better way to transport things (tom scott made a video about it).

  • @circleofsorrow4583

    I think AMD could grab a chunk of the market if it was able to provide a solution for multi card performance compatible with current graphics frameworks. I would get two AMD cards to drive high frame rate 4k graphics if it was cheaper than the 2080ti/3080ti. I'm sure I'm not alone, but AMD can't even be bothered to keep their single card drivers up to scratch, so multi card drivers that work is a pipedream.

      That could probably be why mine are so low then! I've not really put any decent monitoring software on. I was quite impressed by the AMD Catalyst center when I switched over from a 1060. I've always just taken current temperature as Gospel, the profile I use doesn't spin the fans until I hit 60 degrees, so I'm sat at around 50 idle in a fairly warm room. Keep finetuning thr voltage up and down until you reach a level that is as low as possible but you still generate no errors. give it 5-10mV more just in case and this will be you lowest stable voltage.
