Autistics listen more than talk because we so often get something wrong and don't know what or why. Then the whole eye contact thing we are pegged as "something is off" just as she says. Be sincere, but not like THAT.
She is correct about ending things if you’re being disrespected, same goes for being abused. I know so many people that are too afraid to leave. It’s sad. A better life can only be accomplished by leaving.

My father demanded that I LIE to him because he wanted to believe or live in a fantasy of my brother and me, specifically. He wanted us to always be “happy” in our lives. He didn’t care at all if it were true. The objective when talking to or seeing him was to make HIM feel better. He saw us as extensions of himself and he didn’t want to live in a world that didn’t appear “perfect.” The saddest thing about my relationship with him when he passed was knowing that he never loved me for who I actually was…he really loved and actually appreciated MY LIE. If I ever treaded on TRUTH or REALITY, it enraged him if it was disappointing or contrary to his PERFECTION FANTASY. I was taught to lie about who I am to make others feel better. I’m very good at analyzing what makes others happy. It’s so strange.
Sorry you went through that! He was doing the best he could with the "imprinting" he received from his parents. If you want to integrate that trauma so you can be free and also not pass it on if you have kids, "The Presence Process" by Michael Brown will work ❤

Hi Lewis, I love your videos. I have to tell you I found this book called The 21 Former Doctor Secrets, where she talks about lies behind health industry, would really suggest to read it.
Feel like people always spill their secrets to me. And since they use to go deeper than what they perhaps intended they regret and even sometimes either avoid me entirely or opposite; try to (mis)use me as emotional support. So consciously I try avoid asking questions where they are prone to open up. But being understanding and not very actively prying ironically make people open up even more.
Those aspects of you that attract people to talk can be gifts that you can really use for a good career path if you wanted it. My son is very level headed and good listener and finally wound up as a therapist for kids. Took it all the way to a Masters degree and is making a good career. It's not a weakness but rather a strength!
I feel reset, recharge, refueled & unstoppable every time I listen and watch her speak. The conviction and bulletproof approach she brings to the table, makes you realise again and again. If she can grow and develop to where she has reach in life, so can I. Decision.Commitment.Displine. Persevere🎯
I feel the same. I was taught to be a people pleaser, to always "behave like a lady", to "be nice" to everyone, to smile at everyone....no matter who the person is, no matter what they do to me. I had to learn by fire: being married for 17+ yrs to a violent dangerous alcoholic. He died after 17+ yrs together. So now i'm able to look back at the lessons I learned.
Lewis,he is so intelligent,down to earth, and simple. Asks all the questions, that most people will dodge, because they might think people will relate it to them as asking personal question, that then need answers to for their own problems themselves. I already remember something my Mom once told me as a child (continuing on from Evys child), and she said, "I always know when you've had a bad day I can read you like a book." And that was the first worst thing she could have possibly said because then I thought I don't want to be read like a book, and then my mind went straight to what I should do to be less readable. If she hadn't said anything, she'd be able to still read me, but because she did, my mind went to now I've got to hide the real me.
She was trying to help you adjust. You are her child. She was letting you be able to hide your emotions from the world, hopefully she was on your side. Everyone else not so much.
Scary as a parent how an innocent statement like that could lead to such a response. Not sure the context, depends on the attitude that was with it, but it sounds to me just an emphasis on how close our relationship is. It doesnt sound like a general criticism. I guess it reminds us as parents to add some positive spin whenever we point out something critical. But that's hard to always do on the fly because we often get into "advice mode" easily without thinking that "this could have a bigger effect than I'm intending unless I condition it very carefully."
@mhzprayer there was no attitude. No mean vibes or nothing just that as soon as she said that I thought I didn't want to be read that easily and if she could read me easily and wanted to continue doing that my common sense agrees with Evy you haven't got to mention it.
I am still at 50yo, trying to unlearn my childhood-instilled "speak only when you're spoken to" mentality, wherein, i only speak/spoke to someone, only if/when someone speaks to me, first. In that, for me, one of the most difficult things for me to remember to do is actually ask someone (to whom in speaking) about him/herself. And this comes across as me being selfish, all about me. But I may realllyyyy want to know about the person; but I'm still trying to get around that basic "speak only when spoken to" conditioning.
There is some really good advice here...I can see how some of this applies to intentionally parenting your children with love. I really appreciate this stuff!!!❤

The "getting them to like me" thing, ugh!! If you do this, STOP. It's a disservice to them and it's a disservice to yourself. Especially when you're dating... If you're just trying to get the other person to like you by mirroring them and all their likes to get them to like you, you're lying about who you are, which always has to come out eventually. Then BIG SURPRISE, disconnect happens. Waste of time and feelings get hurt. Be pleasent but be authentic. If it doesnt mesh, it doesnt mesh. That's okay!

Omg! Absolutely correct! I had made a lot of mistakes harmful to myself because I followed the advise "don't judge a book by its cover". After long track of being hurt by terribly bad guys, this is the wise and trustworthy advise, ladies: first, you need to Judge A Book By Its Cover, and let's see where it leads to. (Trust your first impression if it shows that you don't like the person or you aren't interested in him).
Evy I enjoy listening to you, you are so authentic , and being a psychologist and Police officer , SSA, I really think you are a great role model for everyone, I suggest you make a doll like "barbe" but with your face and write books for children, boys and girls, to teach them how to fight, whom ot fight, , how to be strong, how to be true to yourself, how to become an agent of service to others, I love to see that.
I always trust my intuition if a person feels off i take notice always it doesnt matter how you look either if i have that feeling about someone i take notice .
Lewis your every question is about how you can influence others. You are focused on getting things done with others while she clearly said you need to be geniune when you want to connect with others
To Connect to people: Be empathetic, ask questions, listen, be warm, be respectful, have compassion, not judgmental, be professional, be your word, show up on time . Don't disagree and don't make everything about yourself. Don't argue with people that are clueless about facts that you know because it's a waste of energy. Have good boundaries at the beginning, then later you create warmth (open, approachable, accessible to talk to).

I read people so well because of my childhood and 80% of it is their body language their tone of voice I learned this at a very young age. It was my defense mechanism. It’s difficult for me to even be around people because I can read them so well, I know how to read people that don’t have true intentions

Talking does not help. When you know someone has done something. Punish them with something which is important to them Like not allowing the child to go out. When they question your action you explain the reason. This applies to adults also
I don’t agree with her about you have to be looking nice to show to someone you are competent. My partner is very well put together, has a pretty face, tall, he has a tan skin, he is from Colombia but he is very manipulative to people! He is a narcissist! He is verbally abuse to me and so far, was physical abused but he tells me he will kill me in a joke way!! In my opinion looks might matter in the beginning but we should pass looking. There is more to that
That nice-looking outside is probably one of the main ways he got you to feel comfortable with him initially though. So it does work, unfortunately. It takes a bit longer to know someone's insides.
Some of the most competent people iv met have dreadlocks & sit in caves meditating all day. There are multiple versions of competent , & competent with what is the question to ask.
Pets like dogs and cat also act like children when they know they did something wrong and you ask did you do it? The guilty ones turn their head away while the innocent once look into your eyes.

Sometimes ppl don't want to speak because they feel vulnerable.. they aren't lying.. its important to know if it is malicious or not.
It doesnt need to be malicious to cause confusion and pain.
Maybe it depends on the setting. Some people are shy in groups or don't even get a chance to talk.

Talking does not help. When you know someone has done something. Punish them with something which is important to them Like not allowing the child to go out. When they question your action you explain the reason. This applies to adults also

I don’t agree with her about you have to be looking nice to show to someone you are competent. My partner is very well put together, has a pretty face, tall, he has a tan skin, he is from Colombia but he is very manipulative to people! He is a narcissist! He is verbally abuse to me and so far, was physical abused but he tells me he will kill me in a joke way!! In my opinion looks might matter in the beginning but we should pass looking. There is more to that

That nice-looking outside is probably one of the main ways he got you to feel comfortable with him initially though. So it does work, unfortunately. It takes a bit longer to know someone's insides.
Some of the most competent people iv met have dreadlocks & sit in caves meditating all day. There are multiple versions of competent , & competent with what is the question to ask.
