RE4 remake can turn out like the very disappointing RE3 Remake 2020. Lots of content cut or changed that made the original 1999 game great. RE4 VR might be neat, but it's sadly a Facebook VR exclusive. No thanks.
Lmao you're like 9 months younger then me and mk4 is garbage lol but to be fair I think they style of fighting game isn't great and it seems like it keeps getting worse and hasn't aged well. Also I've been telling people I know personally re4 doesn't need a remake at all and if they absolutely need better graphics then the fan made hd pack that's 19gb and not finished does a damn good job. I'm also really excited about re4vr and figuring out how to make it run on an HTC vive cause the quest 2 sucks ass compared to pc vr with index controllers

You mean DMC was supposed to be RE4 until it became it's own thing. You can definitely see the RE2 Leon in Dante's character model (face and hair mainly), and then Dante's personality rubbed off onto RE4 Leon's personality. Kamiya was the director for RE2 and was working on RE4 until it got turned into DMC and Mikami started over again

It's really telling how *massive* of a project RE4 was for Capcom, when one prototype of it turned into Devil May Cry, then that series got a whole TRILOGY before RE4 finally released.
Don't forget they were working on the Dino Crisis and Onimusha series as well during all this time. In a way, it was a blessing and a curse. The team kept fracturing and eventually static cameras got stale, but it gave us new IPs that all evolved into their own styles.

My annoyance lies with the fact that anyone getting introduced to the older RE games such as RE1-3 remakes.. won’t get the completed story of Claire finding her brother, how the t Veronica virus basically goes on to produce many of the bows of future re games and worse of all: Code Veronica sets up 4-6 by revealing Wesker being alive and with powers and showcases Chris’ rivalry between them
To be honest, I enjoy hearing Leon's quips. He has a good sense of humor and always knows when to quip a good joke when the stakes are high. I like how he always stays calm and collected, similar to Dante when he faces a Demon yet how he is serious and firm, similar to Vergil.
i just dont get it. Ashley never ever bothered me, sure her voice was high pitched when she screamed but other than like one or two scenes she only screamed when i messed up and she got caught. I did treat her as a health shield like a bunch of times, especially at the end when i maxed out her health bar she saved me a good few times
Ashley is seriously one of the most reliable companions in any game, ESPECIALLY considering Capcom's horrific AI in Dead Rising. Ashley just follows close and LISTENS, and that's incredible.
I completely agree this game is still a blast to play the remake may tamper with the game and just not be that great. I feel a remake would have been more appropriate like 5-10 years in the future

This game is so damn addicting. Gameplay is king, graphics and polished cutscenes are just extra. I've beat this game more times than I can count. The cheesy storyline, corny one liners, and and not taking itself too seriously are some of the many charms that make re 4 so endearing. Its not nostalgia because i just played this for the first time when the pandemic first started in 2020. I had a copy for my Wii that I dusted off and I am still playing around with it here and there. Nice video

Okay, obviously haven't seen the video yet, but there is one primary reason RE4 is getting a remake: Resident Evil Village is similar in a lot of ways, and it would be the path of least resistance development-wise.
To be fair they didnt have to make re8 the way they did. I'm sure they did just to get the assets because like re7 had the assets for both re2 and 3 remakes. So I think they just knew how popular re4 was and decided to make re8 the way they did to get those assets ready
I played this game for the first time last year and honestly i liked the tank controls more than I thought i would. It had a learning curve which made the gameplay unique and fun

I actually like the semi-tank controls of RE4. You barely notice it when you’re constantly running, but when you do, it feels like the best possible version of classic RE movement with the over the shoulder camera
I think the limitations of not being able to shoot and walk at the same time adds to the suspense. It's very close to what we generally expect with third person shooters of todays standards, but it feels unique while also being reminiscent to older video games. It's like no matter what generation you are from, you are always going to have to learn these controls by yourself, and I vastly prefer that over another mediocre shooter that just copies the style from The Last of Us
Massively overrated. It’s not even a Resi game, none of them past 3 are really. The only one that could be still classed as a Resi is 6 as it still actually has zombies. Overall though, hugely overrated. I think everyone is just riding the nostalgia train tbh

I think the 'Resident Evil' franchise died when they stopped using zombies. A RE4 remake would be so daunting to even try to tackle. RE4 has so many varied and expertly crafted enemy encounters and set-pieces. RE2 & RE3 are 6-8 hour games that use a lot of back and forth navigation in a couple of areas primarily against three enemy types. The remakes cut a few on top of that. RE4 is a 16-18 hour game that is almost always pushing forward, and moves into new and varied areas against a much higher roster of enemies. Despite RE4 being mechanically simple it barely remains the same for more than 10 minutes. It keeps throwing new things at the player throughout the whole game. So we have a much longer game, with many, MANY more assets, of which each and every enemy type would need to be dramatically redone to cater towards a new range of movement abilities. If short games like RE2&RE3 can't make it through unscathed, how could a game like RE4? I also have to say, "modern controls" would take away everything unique about RE4's combat (such as giving Leon the ability to walk and aim at the same time). The game was truly designed with the controls in mind in a way few games are. The stop and shoot mechanics are critical to the experience, as is the limited movement, which also translates into deliberate movement for the enemies. It's an incredibly unique combat system that has yet to be truly replicated ever (except maybe with RE5, but even then, there are some notable differences). You'd more or less have to build an entirely new combat system and new enemy ai for new controls, and I just have zero faith that Capcom could create a new combat system to rival the original (no one has, not even Mikami himself with TEW), or replicate that tense, deliberate feel of the original system and its emphasis on positioning. Also, no, Capcom didn't already do this with RE2 and 3. The combat in those games is nothing like 4, despite them sharing its camera perspective. People often don't know what it means to say things have become "dated" or have "aged badly" as though RE4's controls were second nature at the time or something. We already had third person shooter controls down. We already had third person shooters where you can move and shoot. It's not that it's become dated and that people didn't know better, it is a game designed around the control scheme and what is meant by "aged poorly" is that it's not homogenized.
Someone who actually understand that the control in itself is a huge chunk of the soull of the game. I see absolutely no possible way that this remake can go and make us RE4 fans happy. What I would love to see instead would be just a graphical upgrade. Upgrade all models and textures and atmosphere without even touching the core mechanics .. maybe add a few more types of villagers and get a new voice acting done but do not fiddle around with the dialogues very much and that would be a perfect remaster right there.
I'm just astonished the amount of negative comments the classic RE4 has recieve on the internet since the remake was announce, I mean, is one of the best games from the 6th generation, a generation that brought tons of legendary titles (GTA San Andreas among them), probably the best generation ever. My guess is that the people hating on the good old RE4 because of the Remake are modern gamers who take graphics over awesomness, because I don't see why the people who always hated RE4 would love the remake now. I don't know, personally, I'll never find attractive the remake of a game I never liked.
There is a reason that this game that came out during the days of the PS2 was ported over to the PS4, people still continue to play it to this very day And Playstation usually sucks with backwards compatability!
Because it doesn’t honor the original and the cutscenes are goofy and unrealistic. MGS1 was meant to be realistic. The voice acting is a noticeable step down compared to MGS1 and 2. And the gameplay is taken right from MGS2 and the levels are pretty much the same, so the levels are sooooo easy, it gives you a gun at the start and it has a tranq! And the character models are weird, especially for Otacon, ocelot and snake. The music is also different and just doesn’t fit right. Anyway I like how a RE4 comment turned into a MGS coment

I played RE4 for the first time in 2018 and have replayed it recently on Professional. It hasn’t aged at all IMO. And standing still while shooting is not an issue. For Christ’s sake, you can pause the game and instantly switch weapons
1:28 I love how you pointed this out. A lot of millennials and zoomers for today just say "oh I don't like it because it's already old" but they don't keep in mind what made it great back then. Heck, I first played Resident Evil 6 before Resident Evil 4 when I was in High School, and I still though that RE4 is a fuckin' masterpiece until today. When comparing RE4 and RE6 controls, RE4 seems pretty much janky but it's what the developers had to deal with at that time, and it may be hard for me to adjust at first, but I got over the controls at some point and it worked real fine to me.

Dude, tank controls and not being able to move while shooting are not flaws, is an integral part of the game design. The enemy AI and level design is built around Leon's slow movement, that's why the gameplay is so perfect.
The fact that you have to find the right moment of either shooting or running away is part of the suspense. Also this might be just a me thing, but I vastly prefer something that's difficult but unique and innovative than whatever game just copied Dead Space. No matter when you first played the game, 2005 or 2021, you're going to have the same first-time experience with it as everyone else and I love that. When you go into something like The Last of Us, you already know how to play it before even starting it up
In my opinion, you don't need to move while shooting. The enemies don't behave in a manner that you'd need to. This game was built perfect. I first played this game back when it first came out and still play it till this very day.

Probably off topic, but (in universe) I always found Leon’s sarcastic super cool guy persona a coping mechanism he learned from his time after RC to not show how scared he was. While out of universe yeah Leon is definitely the cool sarcastic American hero parody.
I’m new to the Resident Evil franchise. After being blown away by RE2 remake, I went ahead and bought 0-7. Re4 was admittedly pretty hard to handle first few minutes, but I got over it pretty fast. People need to appreciate the classics and understand times have changed a bit.
Resi 4 is so incredibly modern because almost all games that come out now with a third person camera are inspired by it, either intentional or unintentional. The game that needs to be remade is Code Veronica, or if they really want spice things up the original but with the controls and graphics of the ramens of 2 and 3. Remake is basically perfect, but that perspective in terms of camera and gameplay would be so interesting.

Theres a difference with RE4 tho. This game is an all time forever classic. Not just the best RE game but its classed as one of the best all time games period. Some games are remade because they wanna make them better than the original like RE2 for example. But RE4 is literal perfection. I dont ever want a remake for it but thats just my opinion of course.

Dude I was about 15 when I first played silent hill (which was about 2 years ago) and honestly I have no clue why people complain about tank controls. You get used to them and they add to the experience!
I don't understand why they haven't added hot weapon swapping to the ports. They added style change to the Switch port of DMC3, so they can probably go in and do it. That's about all I would fix in RE4.
I played this game in 4th grade. The "Ashley" section in this video is PERFECT!!!! I was going to argue almost every point you've made but once you brought up Ashley dude, Idgaf, great video...FINALLY someone who isn't scared of saying it!! Ashley was never a problem. And I had the same experience, 1 Ashley death. In the castle, in the same room in your video (14:09-14:23) she died because I told her to wait, I didn't pay attention and she got merc'ed. Now, whenever I play it again I never waste another triple herb on her.
I hate the very dark and serious tone they are going with…elements were creepy and grim but ultimately this game was an action film parody. THE DOG JUMPS into battle for you… If you understand anything about the series it has always had a very CAMP tone. This campiness is not at all visible in the trailers, I feel like they’ve dropped the parody attitude these games have always had, the original being an American soldier horror film parody OVER THE TOP and ridiculous.
Worst part is Ashley is already doing much more than she did originally... now she is a tough girl who attacks lion furiously when they first meet and demands to be let go... missing the tank top... but it could still happen

RE4 is one of the best aging games ever, and while I don't think it NEEDS a remake, I'm still excited nonetheless because it's just more to me. By that I mean I don't feel they are gonna treat it as "play this over OG 4", but a fun game to play alongside it
Resident Evil 4 doesn't need an update because it was a perfect storm of Capcom trying over and over again to get a solid concept for a sequel and just going "You know what? Fuck it! Let's just rip off 007 and Indiana Jones mixed with body horror and see how that works" -Secret agent -Exotic locations -Saddler, Salazar and the village chief might as well be Bond villains with mutant powers -Crazy ruins -Running away from a rock -Annoying damsel in distress (Ashley) -Femme Fatale untrustworthy secret agent (Ada) -Quirky and beefed up head minions (Krauser) And to top it off -Secret island lair

Controls affect the way a game is played, therefore it is a part of gameplay. You can argue they're a *subcategory* of gameplay, but you can't convince me they're not or don't affect gameplay at large. Believe me, I played Sonic Adventure 2, and the controls of that game negatively affect the gameplay because multiple actions are mapped to the same button, which can lead to you dying when you wanted to light dash but you performed a bounce attack instead.

I'm worried they're going to make too many changes, like changing the original voice acting If they replace Sandy Cheeks (Ashley Grahm) If they replace Doug Dimmadome (Jack Krauser) If they replace the Merchant (Also Leon's voice actor) Then it won't live up to the original release, the new Leon voice actor is too earnest/young-sounding and he did not fit Leon's appearance in the new Netflix CGI series.
I like how in the predictions part of the video he's like, "oh yeah, they're gonna skip these area and make these area smaller so it last less time" kinda vibe, and in the end the mf game takes longer than the OG RE4. like, i remember a lot of things in the og game that aren't there but still took me longer to finish. anyways great video, all of it make sense we didn't really need a remake but still the deliver on a high note this remake.

i just dont get it. Ashley never ever bothered me, sure her voice was high pitched when she screamed but other than like one or two scenes she only screamed when i messed up and she got caught. I did treat her as a health shield like a bunch of times, especially at the end when i maxed out her health bar she saved me a good few times
Ashley is seriously one of the most reliable companions in any game, ESPECIALLY considering Capcom's horrific AI in Dead Rising. Ashley just follows close and LISTENS, and that's incredible.
At the same time, I think I shot her in the face with the shotgun more times then I actually died.

I just played this for the first time less than a year ago. It has aged incredibly well, much more so than the entries that preceded it.

This game is so damn addicting. Gameplay is king, graphics and polished cutscenes are just extra. I've beat this game more times than I can count. The cheesy storyline, corny one liners, and and not taking itself too seriously are some of the many charms that make re 4 so endearing. Its not nostalgia because i just played this for the first time when the pandemic first started in 2020. I had a copy for my Wii that I dusted off and I am still playing around with it here and there. Nice video

Resident Evil Village is similar in a lot of ways, and it would be the path of least resistance development-wise.
And I think it was leaked a while back (alongside other games that have since been announced)
To be fair they didnt have to make re8 the way they did. I'm sure they did just to get the assets because like re7 had the assets for both re2 and 3 remakes. So I think they just knew how popular re4 was and decided to make re8 the way they did to get those assets ready

I actually like the semi-tank controls of RE4. You barely notice it when you’re constantly running, but when you do, it feels like the best possible version of classic RE movement with the over the shoulder camera
I think the limitations of not being able to shoot and walk at the same time adds to the suspense. It's very close to what we generally expect with third person shooters of todays standards, but it feels unique while also being reminiscent to older video games. It's like no matter what generation you are from, you are always going to have to learn these controls by yourself, and I vastly prefer that over another mediocre shooter that just copies the style from The Last of Us

A RE4 remake would be so daunting to even try to tackle. RE4 has so many varied and expertly crafted enemy encounters and set-pieces. RE2 & RE3 are 6-8 hour games that use a lot of back and forth navigation in a couple of areas primarily against three enemy types. The remakes cut a few on top of that. RE4 is a 16-18 hour game that is almost always pushing forward, and moves into new and varied areas against a much higher roster of enemies. Despite RE4 being mechanically simple it barely remains the same for more than 10 minutes. It keeps throwing new things at the player throughout the whole game. So we have a much longer game, with many, MANY more assets, of which each and every enemy type would need to be dramatically redone to cater towards a new range of movement abilities. If short games like RE2&RE3 can't make it through unscathed, how could a game like RE4?
I also have to say, "modern controls" would take away everything unique about RE4's combat (such as giving Leon the ability to walk and aim at the same time). The game was truly designed with the controls in mind in a way few games are. The stop and shoot mechanics are critical to the experience, as is the limited movement, which also translates into deliberate movement for the enemies. It's an incredibly unique combat system that has yet to be truly replicated ever (except maybe with RE5, but even then, there are some notable differences).
You'd more or less have to build an entirely new combat system and new enemy ai for new controls, and I just have zero faith that Capcom could create a new combat system to rival the original (no one has, not even Mikami himself with TEW), or replicate that tense, deliberate feel of the original system and its emphasis on positioning. Also, no, Capcom didn't already do this with RE2 and 3. The combat in those games is nothing like 4, despite them sharing its camera perspective.
People often don't know what it means to say things have become "dated" or have "aged badly" as though RE4's controls were second nature at the time or something. We already had third person shooter controls down. We already had third person shooters where you can move and shoot. It's not that it's become dated and that people didn't know better, it is a game designed around the control scheme and what is meant by "aged poorly" is that it's not homogenized.
Someone who actually understand that the control in itself is a huge chunk of the soull of the game. I see absolutely no possible way that this remake can go and make us RE4 fans happy.
What I would love to see instead would be just a graphical upgrade. Upgrade all models and textures and atmosphere without even touching the core mechanics .. maybe add a few more types of villagers and get a new voice acting done but do not fiddle around with the dialogues very much and that would be a perfect remaster right there.

Re4 is a game that was made with everything in mind, a remake really would be hard with trying to modernize it.
I'm just astonished the amount of negative comments the classic RE4 has recieve on the internet since the remake was announce, I mean, is one of the best games from the 6th generation, a generation that brought tons of legendary titles (GTA San Andreas among them), probably the best generation ever. My guess is that the people hating on the good old RE4 because of the Remake are modern gamers who take graphics over awesomness, because I don't see why the people who always hated RE4 would love the remake now. I don't know, personally, I'll never find attractive the remake of a game I never liked.

Because it doesn’t honor the original and the cutscenes are goofy and unrealistic. MGS1 was meant to be realistic. The voice acting is a noticeable step down compared to MGS1 and 2. And the gameplay is taken right from MGS2 and the levels are pretty much the same, so the levels are sooooo easy, it gives you a gun at the start and it has a tranq! And the character models are weird, especially for Otacon, ocelot and snake. The music is also different and just doesn’t fit right. Anyway I like how a RE4 comment turned into a MGS coment

Heck, I first played Resident Evil 6 before Resident Evil 4 when I was in High School, and I still though that RE4 is a fuckin' masterpiece until today. When comparing RE4 and RE6 controls, RE4 seems pretty much janky but it's what the developers had to deal with at that time, and it may be hard for me to adjust at first, but I got over the controls at some point and it worked real fine to me.

Ellie is not invencible in TLOU 1. She can die if you're not careful. Same thing happens to the other companion characters, in both games.
Dude, tank controls and not being able to move while shooting are not flaws, is an integral part of the game design. The enemy AI and level design is built around Leon's slow movement, that's why the gameplay is so perfect.
The fact that you have to find the right moment of either shooting or running away is part of the suspense. Also this might be just a me thing, but I vastly prefer something that's difficult but unique and innovative than whatever game just copied Dead Space. No matter when you first played the game, 2005 or 2021, you're going to have the same first-time experience with it as everyone else and I love that. When you go into something like The Last of Us, you already know how to play it before even starting it up
In my opinion, you don't need to move while shooting. The enemies don't behave in a manner that you'd need to. This game was built perfect. I first played this game back when it first came out and still play it till this very day.

I’m new to the Resident Evil franchise. After being blown away by RE2 remake, I went ahead and bought 0-7. Re4 was admittedly pretty hard to handle first few minutes, but I got over it pretty fast. People need to appreciate the classics and understand times have changed a bit.
Resi 4 is so incredibly modern because almost all games that come out now with a third person camera are inspired by it, either intentional or unintentional. The game that needs to be remade is Code Veronica, or if they really want spice things up the original but with the controls and graphics of the ramens of 2 and 3. Remake is basically perfect, but that perspective in terms of camera and gameplay would be so interesting.

Theres a difference with RE4 tho. This game is an all time forever classic. Not just the best RE game but its classed as one of the best all time games period. Some games are remade because they wanna make them better than the original like RE2 for example. But RE4 is literal perfection. I dont ever want a remake for it but thats just my opinion of course.

David is right. The OG RE 1-3 games were still very playable and fun . Those are totally different games nowadays if you put it against the remakes . Only RE1 remake replaced OG RE1 . RE 2 and 3 remake are totally different beasts in gameplay , graphics (of course) and even level-design . RE3 remake is almost a new game and just resembling almost nothing from OG RE3 except nemesis very few parts of level-design.
Its just the same happened with RE4 but ignorance and the nowadays Throw-away mentality brought the same effect and there are people who want a remake of RE4 . OG RE4 is still very good to this day but the same goes to the OG RE games aswell.
There isnt really an outdated game . There are games that were badly designed from the begin with and games that still hold up but have a steeper learning curve tobget into than others with some rough corners.

I played this game in 4th grade. The "Ashley" section in this video is PERFECT!!!! I was going to argue almost every point you've made but once you brought up Ashley dude, Idgaf, great video...FINALLY someone who isn't scared of saying it!! Ashley was never a problem. And I had the same experience, 1 Ashley death. In the castle, in the same room in your video (14:09-14:23) she died because I told her to wait, I didn't pay attention and she got merc'ed. Now, whenever I play it again I never waste another triple herb on her.
I hate the very dark and serious tone they are going with…elements were creepy and grim but ultimately this game was an action film parody. THE DOG JUMPS into battle for you… If you understand anything about the series it has always had a very CAMP tone. This campiness is not at all visible in the trailers, I feel like they’ve dropped the parody attitude these games have always had, the original being an American soldier horror film parody OVER THE TOP and ridiculous.

Using “Hunting for Witches” by Bloc Party was AWESOME. Thank you for that. I also didn’t play RE4 until 2020 and I also don’t think it needs a remake. I will buy it but it wasn’t needed.

im a zoomer and i remember loving watching my family and friends playing resident evil 4, i know almost everything about the game and I have never played it :D I have such fond memories of shitting my pants seeing the Iron Maiden’s for the first time lmao
RE4 is one of my favorites of all time so I would love to see it updated, but not changed completely. Also, I want to see how many things the remake ends up on since RE4 I swear has been on almost every console since its release

I never judge a game by its graphics or controls or even glitches. I judge simply by gameplay and story.

@@Orange_Swirl I wouldn’t say so. Controls are it’s own category separate from actual gameplay mechanics and all that. But I can see why some people would disagree.

Literally the definition of gameplay above. Controls affect the way a game is played, therefore it is a part of gameplay. You can argue they're a *subcategory* of gameplay, but you can't convince me they're not or don't affect gameplay at large. Believe me, I played Sonic Adventure 2, and the controls of that game negatively affect the gameplay because multiple actions are mapped to the same button, which can lead to you dying when you wanted to light dash but you performed a bounce attack instead.
@@Orange_Swirl to me controls never have anything to do with gameplay. I can hate the controls yet still love the gameplay. When I think of gameplay it’s more to do with the actual mechanics such as combat, exploration, puzzles stuff like that.
I'm worried they're going to make too many changes, like changing the original voice acting

If they replace Doug Dimmadome (Jack Krauser)
If they replace the Merchant (Also Leon's voice actor)
Then it won't live up to the original release, the new Leon voice actor is too earnest/young-sounding and he did not fit Leon's appearance in the new Netflix CGI series.

I'm just nervous they would butcher Leon's character model. To be honest, he looks perfect with how he is in RE4.

Dead by Daylight has proved that the new Leon would fit well
I really liked the way he looked in 6, especially with his leather jacket.
I like how in the predictions part of the video he's like, "oh yeah, they're gonna skip these area and make these area smaller so it last less time" kinda vibe, and in the end the mf game takes longer than the OG RE4. like, i remember a lot of things in the og game that aren't there but still took me longer to finish. anyways great video, all of it make sense we didn't really need a remake but still the deliver on a high note this remake.
