      buddy, based on your accent and your name, I knew you are Irish... 'Ian' is a very common name in Ireland... and your accent... I don't know what part of Ireland you come from, but it is a typical Irish accent.

      Could you make a video about ethical companies to work and teach for in China? I'm interested in teaching in China. I don't speak Chinese and am concerned about signing a contract with an unethical company. Also, do you know anyone who is honest and helps teachers find jobs? Thanks for the great video!

    Thanks for the quick overview. After reading some of the government web sites, I do not think any normal person would be able to travel to China until Sept 1st at the earliest. Maybe until next year. The Sept 1st date is derived from some other countries government web sites as well as searches at airlines. For China I only have the March 26th advisory.

    • @ianinchina7610

      Yeah that is up in the air right now. Some say September,some say November but the truth is no one really knows. Some good news tho, recently China and South Korea entered discussions to open borders for people traveling for business. That's a good sign. I do not believe countries with a high number of cases of covid will be at the top of the list of countries to follow.

    It's EXTREMELY a great informative video. Well, What about ESL jobs for non-native English teachers in China? As for me, I have a Tefl certificate and IELTS BAND 7 with about 10 years of experience in teaching English in public schools and good command of English.

    • @uwanttono4012
      @uwanttono4012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to say, but based on my 15 years living in China, IELTS level 7 is not good enough to teach English in China and certaintly not in a middle or high school in a Tier 1 city like Beijing or Shanghai!! Many high school students are already at that level but if you have a "white" face, you may be able to get a job in a lower tier city.

    One other thing I meant to ask, what is the policy for transferring money from China to South Africa? I heard someone saying you can't transfer all the money you have a certain limit. What's the limit per annum?
    When you are new in China how do you survive the first month before getting paid? Do you need to have a little extra money to keep yourself going before getting your 1st paycheck? Thanks man lot of appreciation 🤝

    • @ianinchina7610
      @ianinchina7610  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there. Well it is complicated transferring money via banks, but there are reliable agents you can use to send money straight to your bank account in S.A with no limit.
      As far as the first month, it is ideal to bring about R 6000 extra to survive the first month, but you do get schools willing to help out new teachers with loans, and some places to pay a bonus for completing the initial training you receive upon arrival but that is usually paid with the first salary

      In China, every one has savings, it’s weird if you don’t have even 2000 dollars for Chinese, I just suggest you at least bring 2000 dollars

      Sending money home, you have 4 options:
      1. Banks - Bank of China offers this service but they ask for a lot of documentation, Like visa + proof of income + Proof of tax, which can be difficult to get from an employer. Also, it takes some time and you need a local to translate for you
      2. Alipay transfer - Needs to be done from a locals alipay account, which will require trust
      3. Western Union - Very expensive + the person picking up the cash will need to go through the steps of receiving the money, which takes time and effort
      4. Trusting a third party agent to do it via their bank account - This takes a lot of trust + You have to accept their rate.
      Exchanging money when you come to China is best done in South Africa at a bank, Or making sure your debit card has been opened to international withdrawals. This can be done at your bank branch in S.A. If you come to China without telling your branch that your card will be used abroad to withdraw money, if might be frozen, and unfreezing is a big hassle if you are outside of China. Do not exchange money on the airport. You will lose so much.

    • @ianinchina7610
      @ianinchina7610  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being scammed - Never trust an agent who tells you that you must pay X amount of money to get a job. An agent will never ask you to pay them. The agent makes their money from the school for recruiting you.

    • @ianinchina7610
      @ianinchina7610  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The culture - I'd say it all depends on the school type
      Follow the link for a list:
      www.teachingnomad.com/teach-abroad/teach-in-china/types-of-schools
      Always remember to understand and know your goals. Employers will always tell you whatever they have to to get you to do whatever they need you to do. But if you know your goals, and you understand your value as a teacher and individual, you'll maintain a level and clear head.

    Thanks for the video. It helped consolidate all the application and search topics into one source. It would be good to hear about the different types of schools in China as I've found it is a different education system setup than other countries. Could you comment on the risks with turning over personal and employment documents to schools/agents early in the process? Thanks.

      @ianinchina7610  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Sorry for the late reply.
      To give you an please look at the following link:
      www.teachingnomad.com/teach-abroad/teach-in-china/types-of-schools
      As for your question about your question regarding about personal docs, never hand originals over to agents or schools. The might withhold them come end of contract, wich will cause you to lose time and have you spend extra money to get new ones.
