I’m dyslexic myself so I can relate. I thought the teacher doing the test was very kind and never made the boy feel embarrassed or stupid. I wish there had been someone like him for me when I was at school.

I feel so bad. My brother is dyslexic and I always thought he was just lazy and didn't want to put effort in learning.. I'm so glad I watched this.
Take an interest in non structer learning like artistic things. Or creative wrighting. I dont know how old your brother is but if wrighting isnt a stong point try getting a dictating program set up on a computer. You will find he probably has a huge mind that is very imaginative. Dyslexics just dont learn in such a square rigid structured way.

Fearn and Tucker’s Angel Forever colour is not the way we spell color here in America. He did not misspell it at all. You just need to know that we spell things different here in the US, like realize versus realise.

That is the entire definition for the word misspell. A quick search on google was all you had to do. I don’t feel like arguing over the internet with what seems to be an irrational child just because people spell things differently. Have a good day.

I was never diagnosed and I’ve been going through high school with it. I’m right now in advanced English and am struggling because I can’t keep up with the reading but I need to get the credits

I was tested in primary school in 4th class so when I was about 9, we did the spelling test only. It was words I HAD struggled with for ages when trying to learn them but then we did them.
It was only words like cat or mat or hat. I didnt have it according to that test, there was a girl who did it at the same time she perpoisely flailed the test.
According to the Deslexia.org - the most official site I could find I do have it, I asked at the start of last year could I got tested beacuse I'm in a different school and he still hasn't done so, I swear I have dyslexia, even my friend who has dyslexia thinks I have it.
The Golden Lion you most probably do since you spelt purposely as perpoisely and failed as flailed. Dyslexic people often have trouble spelling words. Hope this helps :)
Most likely your a sight reader so you see word and you memorize it when you hear it. My trick is to look to see if I see smaller words I know in big words I don't and I try to go from there this doesn't always help however cuz my phonemic awareness sucks.
With me the nonsense words where my favorite because I knew they where nonsense so, in my mind then, nonsense words are made up words that sound fun. The nonsense words to me was a way to goof around

Seeing that test and the struggles of that boy gave me a far better understanding of what dyslexia looks like from the outside. Now I know that there is far more to dyslexia than just bad spelling and slow reading.

Ya it can include stuff like missing letters, seeing different letters, scramble letters, and words from the line below or above.
Yeah most people can cope with it as they get older like most of the people in my classes don’t know I’m dyslexic

I really want that bc I'm trying to figure out if I'm really dyslexic. Ppl said they think I'm on the spectrum but it's hard to tell for me, I relate more to the dyslexia stuff like big time but also have a lot of panic attacks and anxiety and trouble talking with ppl but it's different problems with communicating than with what I read about autism. I can't understand ppl when other noise is happening around me but it's not quite the same as not being able to block out the sound, I can't filter out the other sounds well to get what someone is saying which is an issue associated with dyslexia. I have a phobia of talking through devices bc I can't understand ppl without looking at them unless I've heard them a lot b4 and I misunderstand the meanings of what ppl say or take things too literally which are present in both conditions but I think for autism it's more not being able to understand how something is meant whereas I have trouble associating the words and phrases with the proper meaning, like I might take something too literally bc I'm deciphering each word separately or missing part of the words like I hear it and then I start understanding what I heard which may not even be accurate idk if I'm making any sense but someone give me a link to this test for adults so I can see how I fit in with it bc I feel this kid big time for when I was his age so I feel like I'm right in thinking it's dyslexia XD
Reading out loud in school was hell. I was bullied so much when I would have to read out loud. If it was popcorn reading other kids would pick on me just to laugh at me. My mom refused to get me tested for dyslexia because she thought I would be discriminated to get a job. It made school hell, but a few teachers who knew about dyslexia and could see my struggles they would make accommodations for me. Some teachers were able to get someone to read questions and answers on a test. I scored at least 10% better with this simple accommodated!
Have students read to a dog. The dog will not make fun of the students when they get stuck on a word. Don't use a border colie dog. They are smarter than most people.They might herd the kids out of the room.
I have dyslexia but it was not diagnosed until I was 17. It would have helped a lot if it was noticed earlier as I had hell of a time getting through the education system..

I was diagnosed since after I was was born!!
my dyslexic diagnosis test was similar to this. I feel his frustrations and pressure to perform in these tests. i remember in primary school i would always get hot and flustered and run out of mental energy whenever I had to read and spell. im 21 now and I still cant spell or gather words fast enough to get my point across, I even find verbal communication hard sometimes. thing is everyone's nero network is optimised and wired in diffrent ways. theres 7 1/2 billion people on this world and not one person has the same mindset.

But you are so right, on the nero wiring, and some of it is also people like us have issues so we have adapt to function too.

Watching this evaluation was eye-opening to the skills the student needs to complete each task you gave for the student to complete!! The Evaluator was non-judgmental during each segment of the evaluation, and praised him frequently, and told the word to the student if he was stuck. That made a difference in helping the student to continue with a good effort! The calm tone and sometimes playful tone of voice from the Evaluator was very helpful too, and encouraged the student to believe that it was ok to make some mistakes. Very helpful!!! Thank you!
I have dyslexia. Found that out only as an adult coz when i was a child, there were no such tests. School was nightmare coz the teachers and classmates treated me badly, as though i was mentaly impaired and would be stupid for my entire life. Only in my later years in school, in boarding school, people realized that something was up. I never opened a book to study in dorm, but i always managed to score avarage or above which made no sense to most of my classmates who studied long hours in front of books before exams. In one of the tests in biology, i was also the only one out of 50 to ansver one particular question correctly. The teacher read my ansver and and made everyone write it down. My test scores depended a lot on how good was the teacher teaching and explaining in class, and not the amount of hours i spent studying on my own. I remembered very well what i heard, but i could never remember well what i read coz i strugled so much with reading. Now that i am aware of my dyslexia, its also easier for me to manage it coz now i know my weak points.
I think educational youtube videos are a great help to people with dyslexia for learning different subjects.
I heard that people who cannot rely on written words to help them remember something often have a much better memory. I was an early reader and good at that and writing, but forget about memorizing anything. We all have our strengths and weaknesses that way.

I have dyslexia & ADHD and watching this video was so cool! I am now 22 and was diagnosed when I was 8, and I remember being tested during the school day & then leaving for the rest of the day because I was so mentally drained. However I don’t really remember the actual testing done on me so this was so interesting to see!
I rember having a test as that. I had 4 hoirscsnd the rest of the day off
I had hundreds of these tests they would stress me out so much because I was so shy and my anxiety I'm now 19 and still struggle to spell so I have to speaking to my phone so it writes it out for me only four years ago I started reading properly I never read a book fully until last year and it was one of my mom's books I was so proud of myself

I love this video. I went through this ever other year in school. To think that I thought I was made to feel stupid, when ready they wanted to help me. This video is as real as it gets! He’s moving around so much because he’s uncomfortable, frustrated, and he’s starting to over think the “test”. Dyslexia is a challenge at first but but the older you get, you learn how to work with it.
If you know anyone with dyslexia, just be patient with us please we’re already frustrated with ourselves we don’t need you frustrated with us to lol
I have dyslexia. This wasn't how I was evaluated... It was less personal, but I'm so glad that I have been diagnosed. If you believed that you may have it, or that your child may have it, have a test. It's nothing to be ashamed of, it's a positive, rather than a negative!

I have dyslexia too and I learned how to read in grade 7 I want from 1.5 reading level to a grade 9 in two years.

I found something similar happened to me and my teachers say it’s because once you learn the words you don’t have to process them at all they just go straight to being pictures in ur mind and this means you can read faster and better
How did you do that? My daughter is in grade 6, I tried my best and did a lot to try to help her, but she doesn't have significant improvements . I'm so heart broken when I see her struggling
Absolutely fantastic! I was born in 1944 and at that time, no one had any idea about Dyslexia, so I ended up with glasses at the age of 13. I loved watching this little boys face. At 18 I felt I had to find out what was going on before I hit college. So I forced myself to read one book each week, off the New York Times best seller list. I hated school and book reports were hours and weeks of torture. I am now a very fast reader and I can read upside down and backward. To me, letters are pictures. I still have a problem with numbers and will almost always reverse the last two numbers in a group. My big surprise was learning in my late teens, that my problem was not visual, but neurological. People see a Dyslexic as lazy and dumb. I hated math and loved algebra. Algebra was a puzzle and gave me time to think. Fortunately, one of my teachers suggested my Parents have me tested. The IQ test proved that I was more than capable of making this all work out. Now at 76 I am living in a foreign country and learning a new language. It is a big challenge. But then, so is life. You need a sense of humor. Great Video!!!!!!

I am 62. When I was in school, it was apparent there was a problem, but no one put a name to it or could get me the proper help. I got through it, though. Now I finally know.

Milly M When I was at school I always remember some sort of shrink asking me “ So if you woke up one morning and you wasn’t dyslexic anymore, what would be the first thing you would do”? And I said “ how would I know?, I don’t take a spelling test as soon as I wake to see if I am or not” what did she think? That Dyslexic people sense there Dyslexia constantly and would notice if it went straight alway, like if I had no legs and they grew back over night! What was the point of that question!

Dear God... When Zeke was taking that test I had flashbacks to taking a similar type of test 20+ years ago. I hated it... Haha
I had similar issues to Zeke when I was young but I think he'll be just fine. Once he finds a subject that interests him, he'll do great. There is a good number of dyslexics who do great at math, science, and art.
Word of Advice
Dont give up Zeke (and to all other dyslexic people and parents of ones who have it); it may seem hard at times but dont let it get to you or put you down. There are many of us just like you in the world and there is no shame in having dyslexia. And I wish you luck, but I dont think youll be needing it. ^_^
I have dyslexia and what this video thought me is that they still use the same test I was tested for dyslexia when I was in the third grade my parents already knew I had it at a very young age but the school wouldn't test me till I was in third in 2009 that was 9 years ago so the test really does work and also to any kids that have dyslexia auto correct is going to be your best friend and you can do anything no matter your learning problems

The test is the same as the one I took 20+ years ago. Thou I didnt have to do the colour thing, but saying the fake words still fills me with dread.
This video is exactly what I needed. I spent several hours trying to find tests for dyslexic kids and this one is the best and most structured. Plus I was unsure that the boy I'm teaching is dyslexic. But when I saw the test now I'm sure he is. Thank you guys ❤🖤🧡💛💚
I'm am freaking dyslexic and I am happy for who I am
I just started working with a Clinic that works with children with reading disabilities. And watching this makes me have more compassion for children that I know who most definitely have learning challanges. I love what I do and I have never ever had a job, where i could say that. God is good. God Bless all who help children and adults to be the best that they can be.
I just got my evaluation for the second time and they said I am making really good progress and I'm probably going to be taken off of the IEP model really soon

As someone who struggles with Dyslexia, I feel for the boy. Back when I was growing up no one knew really anything about it and so people who have it were labeled as slow. The struggle was bad and real then. At least now kids have better resources.

This took me back to primary school and Like this kid I used to get confused with lowercase b and d and which way the number 5 was written so I got tested for dyslexia and It turned out I didn’t have it and eventually I outgrew most of my learning problems.

oh hmm pretty sure you should outgrow that by 6 or there is a problem.. but if you just naturally grew out of it that is good
I had the same problem with b's and d's and how: 9's and P's, 5's and S's, and C's were written and which were which. I also couldn't read numbers off a board, like if 5679 was written I couldn't read it as Five thousand six hundred and seventy-nine. I've grown out of it kinda, occasionally Ill still get confused with which way some letters are written and with numbers now its just longer numbers, I was never tested for Dyslexia.

Jameseena Coene ive been wondering if i have adhd for a long time but i don’t want to self diagnose but my mom would never take me to the doctor for something like that. Even if i truly do have adhd it’s not quite to the point where it’s affecting my life so there would be no need for treatment :)

All of these things I have struggled with for my entire life, and never once did I have a teacher step in and suggest that I be evaluated for dyslexia. It wasn't until I was in college that a professor suggest that I be evaluated for it, but by that point I was off on my own, with no way to pay for an evaluation. I always just thought I was stupid, now I realize I'm not stupid at all, my brain just processes information differently. I just wish I would have had the tools, and resources to help me do my best when I was in school.

I was terrible in primary school. I'm 37 now, with a PhD in Engineering and I still can't read out loud well. My self esteem improved a lot when they stopped asking me to read in front of the whole class. Now, I love to read to my kids. Even thought my 6 year old daughter reads better than me and picks up every mistake.
Man... I so needed you when I was a kid. I will never forget my struggles reading a USA Today newspaper..and unable to finish it without crying and shaking. Ugh so horrible.

This is so interesting to watch because from a young age I've been obsessed with books.. It's cool to learn about how other people view it. To me books and sentences are scenes that you become part of- That doesn't happen easily for everyone I suppose!
MarbleGray I love books, I always did. But I have dislexia. I have problems with spelling and reading out loud. If I am reading silently for myself I will guess the word (I get the word from the context) But when I have to read out loud I can't do that so I slow down and I make mistakes. So loving books is possible evan if you are dislexic.

Again, I am yet another book loving dyslexic. People, including parents and teachers, found it interesting as I showed few obvious signs. My parents are teachers and my dad has worked with children with learning difficulties like dyslexia for numerous years so I'm a bit of an odd one.
Huh that's really interesting.. How did you find out you had it if you didn't have any of the signs?
When I was 6 it took me one minute to be able to decode a sentence. At first I didn't like books but my mother managed to find one I actually enjoyed. We sat with my sister (who also has dyslexia) and we read it aloud for hours on end. It was sort of a game for us. We didn't know we had dyslexia at the time. Turns out that practicing reading and playing an instrument really helps dyslexic individuals. Now you wouldn't even know I have dyslexia unless you took a look at my latest class test ...

Think I have dyslexia but have never been diagnosed I used to read like this boy and had a very hard time learning after a lot of work and a neighbor helping me with Phoenix I am now an member of National Honors Society and I am going to graduate in the spring of 2019. Even though it is difficult reading and writing we can accomplish anything we want. It is just another challenge to face!
Dyslexia describes me well
My favorite subject in school was getting the f out of there.
I had dyslexia kindergarten to 1st grade. I got special help from, teachers. Now I’m in 7th grade and I’m getting all A’s.
I am dyslexic. Profoundly so. I use a text to speech program called Natural reader. What makes this particular program such a benefit to me is that it highlights the word as it reads it to me. This gives me multiple input stimulus and creates greater comprehension and retention. The speed is adjustable and the neovoices are close to natural and even provide inflection. I am now close to 62 and am a published author. Before I was 50, I probably read less than a dozen books in my life. I am a voracious reader now.

When i was like 9-10 years i think i was reading like this too but after some time that changed
same
now i only read words wrong and when i tipe i think in my head i wrote that word right and when i look at what i wrote it shoud look like this (when) but it looks like this (ewhn) or (wehn) ...
Xpert_Destroyer 4 here’s a curve ball. Through, though, thought, taught, taunt, thought, and tough, all look the same to me and I’m sure I forgot another word that looks the same. Ring and wring I confuse. ware, where, witch, which, and when, is another grouping. I struggle with together until (intill?) about a month ago when my friend showed me to-get-her together spells together. I would commonly to tougher as together. Muscle, mussel looks the same. Oddly enough I don’t confuse the difference between theatre and theater. Theatre: plays in an auditorium. Theater: you watch movies on the big screen. I’m going to stop now because I can rant longer.

That kid was me when I was little. I'm able to cope a lot better now thanks to some awesome teachers when I was in 5th grade. Wish I had a teacher to help throughout the rest of school though.

Thank you for this video. I too am dyslexic. I find it hard to read some things and to spell some things as well. I am now 35 and have made great progress with this but still find myself trying to figure out certain words.

I often look at kids and think of how will they look like as adults and upon looking at this very cute kid I realised that he could very well look like Dr. Cruger!☺️ Same face, same sweetness about them! This is a wonderful clip!

I think I'm dyslexic I can't spell or read very well
If I'm writing something like 'the cat is sat' I'll write "the ci" cause I'm thinking of the next word
If I see a number like 35 I'll say '53'

Same.... hey my name is Kasey I have been on TH-cam looking into dyslexia and I think I may have it..... my brother and father have it and I’m struggling in school...... my parents think I’m completely fine and i have asked about it and they said I’m all good... I REALLY think I have it..... What do I do.. asking a few people

They should do a test on everyone in a school to check
I struggle to form sentences, i get half way through and then mix words together, i might say " But then the walk not, wait no, completed, no fi- done ugh! Parks boring!"
I might be trying to say "i hate going to the park if I am alone cos it is boring to walk alone"
And
" I need to finish this first" at the same time
Love this! I wished I had that kind of education in the early 1970s when I was put into remedial classes/teaching - from standard 1 & 2 (intermediate) right through to high school.
I was homeschooled so I never got an official test but I know I am dyslexic now and the little boy reminded me of me as I child.
The worst week for a dyslexic kid ever 3/4/5 year
His writing is making is anxious and nervous and I’m not being tested

Arm chair physiatrist here. Maybe you could give him a prescription.
It’s common with dyslexics, I’m dyslexic and don’t suffer with ADD but I know many dyslexics that do suffer.
I don’t think so because a commen trait of dyslexia is lack of concentration because when I did my dyslexia test the lady asked me if I lacked concentration and I said oh yeah that’s what I get in trouble in school the most

Purble is a nice colour but i like reb more.
