I don't get why so many people have a hard time grasping that it's completely possible to get something that costs money and THEN be poor afterwards. Also it could be that the one parent had dental coverage at their job and then they lost that job, or a relative paid for the braces but not for anything else, or the orthodontist has some kind of payment plan for people on welfare.

It actually happened... you can look it up they even used the real name “heavens gate”.. also there are cults where ppl work themselves to death bc after they get properly brainwashed with the feel goods, they go to a compound and give up all their money and are convinced developing the compound and farming all by hand are the things to do (essentially voluntarily going to an internment camp).
