    Coming from a current ST owner. If your car is stock you don't have to run premium fuel it runs fine on 87 and the manual states the same. You will gain a few HP if you run premium when stock. I had a 2016 ST1 and now I have a 2018 ST3 and I love the car. I love the interior too. Not to many cars with a manual come with heated leather seats and steering wheel, ambient lighting, moving HID headlights, a great Nav system with a moonroof and great handling. I removed the seat bolsters on the passenger for my wife otherwise she refused to ride in the car long distance. After 2 years I removed them on my seat too. I replaced the plastic bolster with memory foam to fill in the space and they still feel bolstered just not so hard as we take the car on long summer trips. I did install the Ford performance tune (which you do have to run 93) and love the engine. The Ford performance tune really smooths out the engine and give you 360 lbs of torque. I don't have any strange idle issues at start up or full throttle acceleration issues that you mentioned or backfire issues running the stock exhaust but I have read on the ST forums that some people have had cold start misfire issues on earlier model years. I also run the intake from the RS. I do have a catch can installed and I clean the intake valves every 10,000 miles with the CRC direct injection intake cleaner. Thanks again for another great video. Also this guy found some nice wheels: th-cam.com/video/rzbbDLKPFN8/w-d-xo.html

      Yeah, lots of people refuse to admit that 87 octane is perfectly fine. It was literally designed to run 87, it's not bad for it

    • @Wvcountrykid
      @Wvcountrykid ปีที่แล้ว

      I did run 87 when I first bought mine but had a buddy tell me to run 93 and have been since then. It definitely adds a little more HP to it

    Hey. Live in Massachusetts. Great video. I have the ST2 2017 which I’ve had for 2 years now. I also hate the seating position however after what seems like a constant daily war of adjusting the wheel and seat I’ve finally found that having the pitch of the seat almost at 90 degrees helped a lot. Not all the way straight obviously but almost. It seemed to help with everything else. The clutch pedal feeling you’re talking about went away and the I finally feel like it’s good now. I’m 5’11 have the seat all the way down and the wheel almost all the way down. I also had the seat modified at one point by an upholstery shop for $200 where they flattened it out a little. Made a huge difference but I ended up taking it out as I missed the old Recaro seat feel. Pros and cons for sure! More good than bad. My next car though I’ll Consider seating position above all else lol!
    I have the Ford performance short shifter kit, steeds clutch spring, Ford tune, and Ford performance exhaust. They transformed the car especially the tune. Woke the car up!

    I have a 2018 I bought new. Never had 93 octane in it and I get 34 mpg with a/c, cruise on trips. City where I live 28 mpg. If you going to autocross, maybe 93 to get full hp. Only mod I've done was catback exhaust when new and leather interior I do not have that plastic creeking sound, but I'm not pushing on the plastic parts. As far as oil changes, I could not find anything in owners manual, but i remember 10,000 miles, I change sooner than that and I use Motocraft semi syntic. Same issue with other rims, not much variety.

  • @ifixthings86
    @ifixthings86 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    A couple things to note. 93/91 is not required from the factory. It will run 87 on an OEM tune.
    Oil changes cost about $35 max. Not $70. Not sure what kind of unicorn jiz this guy is putting in here but M1 works just fine and usually on sale at wally world for about $24 for 5qt. Filter is about $5.

    Hi Ben. Another great video.
    You were saying about the look of the rear of your car. May I suggest maybe getting an rs mk3 spoiler, and perhaps a rear valance made by maxton design .
    Also if you are getting wheels take a look at the new Japanese racing lightweight wheels. You can get the exact fittment size that you need in them. They come in black, matt bronze and gunmetal and are reasonably priced.

    Awesome video Ben I'm glad you're happy with your Focus. This is my first car! You can say I'm a total noob cause I am.
    I just bought a rebuilt 2017 ST2 with only 17k miles for only $19k which includes tax! I assume that's a pretty good deal. (rebuilt title means I pay $83 for full coverage)
    The previous owner in California installed some mods such as:
    Cobb Short Shifter Plate
    A high flow catalytic idk the brand
    Flow master straight pipe
    A dinky depo racing cold air intake with green filter (better than stock tho)
    CPE solid motor mount
    Symposer delete
    Rear Wiper delete (for some reason idk I would never do that)
    And slammed ISC coilovers that didn't come with the spanner wrenches, the ride is way too rough.
    Some mods I wanna put in:
    Mishimoto oil catch can is a total requirement
    The classic rally armor mudflaps add an extra 5 HP :)
    Either CPE or Mishimoto Intercooler
    Wildwood big brakes
    CPE hot side and exhaust side charge pipes with preferably the HKS bov
    A Garret turbo idk which one yet.
    All these mods I found using EdgeAutosport / CJPony parts, with a little directional help from Cameron Alford's TH-cam channel
    I just wanna know what I should do with these coilovers man.
    I need someone to tell me where ISC stands in the coilover market and if I should have them refurbished or get a different brand. I don't care about camber adjustment, I just want to be able to adjust the damping and the ride height for both front and rear wheels. What's the difference between the basic ISC and the N1 lineup, It looks like I have the OEM ford springs on the rear wheels.

    • @karllelliott681
      @karllelliott681 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have experience of both Bilstein B14 and KW v3 coilovers on a MK3.5 FoST and MK8 FiSt respectively. Not quite an 'apples to apples' comparison but what I can say is you get what you pay for. KW's are a bit smoother (less jiggly) over most surfaces and speeds though not totally smooth. Both ride better than the standard Ford suspension and indeed with SFS and lowering springs (but you would expect that!) Bilsteins are not far behind the KW's IMHO and are a bit cheaper where I am (UK)
      I have no experience with your current brand of coilovers so not sure where they sit compared to these two German brands but like I say you get what you pay for. Get the best you can afford.

    Also the car doesn't absolutely need to run 93 (although that changes if you retune). It's recommended and the car only gets maximum power out of 93 but the car sniffs out the octane level and will adjust timing accordingly. You just get slightly less power.

    I think that over the progressive generations of Focus, each one has had the styling of the previous one diluted down and sofened.
    The current Focus, to me, looks like a generic 5-door hatchback, with the rear lamps being just a melted blob of the previous generation's rear pillar lamps.
    The Mk1 Focus is by far, IMO, the most distinctive and most attractive.
