I have now owned this truck with the diesel motor for just over a year with almost 25k miles on her. Zero defects. This motor is perfect for this truck. Plenty of pep at all the bands. Nothing but kudos for this truck. I average 28 mpg and on multiple trips to Florida got 40 mpg. Amazing. Being picky my low rating would be the seat when driving over 500 miles gets stiff but no complaints on short trips. The oil gauge is accurate but always shows at the low side which could be missed if low pressure was an issue. Very good truck.

Well done . I just bought a 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 Duramax and love it. By far the best truck I've had to date. Had to wait for 3 weeks due to transit but am sure glad I waited for the 2025. GMC has nailed the styling cues on this truck inside and out along with the Diesel package.. I hope it does well for me over the next 5 years and I don't have to end up at the dealership with numerous recall trips.

I had this exact vehicle for a while, Great power and efficiency. DEF was a non-issue when unloaded - easily a 1000+ miles. Towing a 24' snowmobile trailer loaded, DEF range dropped into the 400 mile range. You can always top off at truck stops or throw a spare DEF can in the bed.

It's a great setup. What did you move to?
I'm thinking I should get over 5,000 miles on a def tank if I'm not hauling anything. Still only 1/8 tank used per the dash after 1400 miles. I've heard hauling is when it really sucks it down though like you mentioned

@@LifeofBliss First q.. Industry insider. on the 2nd point, I loved it regardless. I have had both the 6.2 w/ 10 speed and 3.0 w/ 10 for over 8k miles a piece. My comments are towards the towing from here... Both the 6.2 and 3.0 have very similar experience and milage (may 1 difference in my experience). I loved the 6.2 way better than the 5.3, just held the gear better, did not have the MPG fall off, and confidence in towing. The 3.0 loaded will hold a gear better than both, but there were certain cases (headwind) where it hunted for a gear a bit (I would just lock it in to a max gear). Exhaust break is defiantly a winner over the 6.2. But towing, it does drink DEF like a case of ice cold beers on a Mexico beach. My trailer is fully boxed enclosed v-nosed trailer, probably 5000 pounds loaded, 3 dudes in the cab + gear in the bed.

wow this is great info We pulled a 27ft 6000lb or so snowmobile trailer to UP last fall with a 22 LM2 and burned almost 7 gallons of DEF on the 1000 mile trip. I was blown away at the consumption. I have been considering a LZ0 to replace my 19 cummins but really wondering the DEF consumption when towing. 400 miles on a tank is brutal. How is the towing MPGs with your LZ0 towing your snowmobile trialer and how does it compare to the 6.2?@@MrThe3zs

@@barrthom603 Round Trip to Munising or Gwinn was 14-15 range with the 3.0. 6.2 (MY19) was closer to 13 in a Yukon and Escalade. So with price of diesel vs gas, there is no savings. Additionally, the stock tank size of the diesel is too small (something like 23-25 gallons). It is fine for unloaded travel, but I had it to specifically pull.

Now has 8500 miles on it, PERFECT running engine. Fuel mileage is stupid crazy on both. She's getting 28.5 mpg at 80 mph on the freeway.

I recommend taking it on the highway a little bit more. Your truck will regen when your dpf gets full (80-90%). City trips and idling, like stopping at red lights, will cause your dpf to fill up faster, causing more regens. Another thing that helps reduce the amount of regen cycles is making sure the truck actually gets to operating temps. I have a ram 1500 ecodiesel and I didn't know this stuff when I bought it. Glad I know it now, and obviously, my truck is different than yours so maybe it won't be as much of an issue but still something to look into. Good luck and that's a mighty fine Little D!😂

The claim to fame is Amsoil is 100% synthetic oil & others only need to have 25% to legally claim a Full Synthetic oil. Just changed out the BREAK IN oil yesterday so to soon to say. I've read others claiming quieter but I can't tell any difference but it is a LZ0. Let's face it, how can a diesel that sounds like a gas sound any quieter? We have a max tow Ford F150 with the CoyoteV8, and it has performed well. However, we do enough driving that this Baby Max might be a better fit for our needs. In our part of the country, diesel is usually only 20 to 40 cents more per gallon than regular gas.

Oil change is a breeze. Take an extra jug or two of DEF when towing long distance. I get 26-28 mpg highway in my trailboss lzo. I would like to add airbags but so far it’s been a solid truck and starts great in the cold and warms up fairly quickly. I bought a 23 Denali with the LZ0 and I have roughly over 3,300 miles currently. Not unusual for me to squeeze 600 miles out of a tank (on a long trip that is). During my short daily commute to work and a little in between with errands, a tank of diesel will last me almost a month. Also let me know if you happen to check your oil, I heard these things come with an extra quart from the factory. They tend to burn a little bit in the first 20,000 miles from what I've researched. I checked mine at around 2,000-2,500 and it hasn't burned any. I'm thinking the climate you drive in could also be a factor as well.

My 2011 with the 6.2 recommends that you use premium, so I do and in North Georgia it is higher than diesel by $.30 a gallon or more. My truck is AWd and gets 16-17 at 75 mph. My dad just bought a 2024 Silverado with the LZ0 and I got 28.6 on the interstate stretch going 75-80 the whole time and 30.4 on a 4 lane highway at 60-70 or so. His truck went 290 miles and used less than half a tank of diesel. I figured the fuel cost of driving my wife's van to Florida and back with regular gas and 22-23 mpg and the diesel truck still has a lower fuel cost than the van. My dad is getting up in age, so the truck will outlast his ability to drive, so I will be his driver and may try to buy his truck in 3-4 years. The only problem is, I love my 2011 Sierra Denali. It fits me like a glove, and I have a custom stereo that is amazing, but that Bose system in the 2024 High Country has decent sound quality for long trips.

Also, GM/Opel designed this engine to have the most reliable light duty diesel emissions system on the market. If you search it online, there haven't been any emissions issues reported with either LM2 or LZ0 engines. In the 6.2L v8 they recommend premium fuel, so the comparison to gas should be comparing diesel vs premium if you're choosing between those two engines (for the Suburban, Yukon, etc). So if you're gonna be paying for premium as you should, then the prices are a lot more comparable. Likely gonna get a duramax on my next SUV purchase.

The oil burning will happen once you’re towing some distance and 5k Lbs on average. As for fuel cost Diesel here in South FLA is less then Premium gasoline as you use in the 6.2 motor. And when towing HWY you can fuel up at truck stops that accommodate towing and get yourself a Diesel fuel card that will save money at the pump. Now using DEF when towing on average above 5k lbs increases consumption. So if you’re regularly towing get yourself a 3/4 ton Diesel preferably less DEF and little better MPG’s when towing only. And if like me camping with an RV a few times year only. Then I can
live easily with 3.0 Duramax. But would not want anything to do with a 6.2 that should be fueling with Premium gas only. Makes no sense unless you want to drive an Escalade and your budget doesn’t blink.. lol. I’m towing RV & Payload 6,200LBS for a big trip less weight for weekend trips. F150 2.7 9.5 MPG’s @ 64 mph.

From what I've seen, these 3.0s are fantastic for the weight range we'd be towing. Shoot I've seen a few guys haul 2-3 cars on a car hauler with these trucks. Without the max tow. I wouldn't do that personally.... but I've seen it lol. Update will be coming on my experience

there's two types of regens. Active and Passive. You only experience a passive regen while driving or idling.
