    Everytime I think it is impossible to find certain albums, you show me how wrong I am. I gave up on ever finding that Human League album on vinyl long ago, but, of course, you have it. I agree that the PiL "album" cover is one of my favorites. Love the simplicity of it and the way it draws your attention. Even the colors are correct on that one. I've always loved the way Bauhaus always uses the stark greyscale for some very effective covers that really conveys the mood of the music. I think I've always been a big fan of all of The Clash's covers. So many covers to choose from, I don't know where to even start.

    Hi Brian, excellent vid lots of stone cold classics in there. Surprised to see the Human League’s Dignity of Labour shown (1st time I’ve seen it in the VC) even more surprised to hear you think it might be your favourite HL (maybe I misheard?). It’s got Ware and Craig-March stamped all over it. Didn’t now know that was Yuri Gagarin or the tune was about the Vostok programme…every day is a school day 🙂. Love the neutral milk hotel album, hate the cover. Prob prefer On Avery Island and definitely like it’s cover more. Keep up the good work. Andy😊

    Fantastic video Brian! I got here initially by watching Ben Rankins vid then Jacks and now yours LoL!
    I love album cover art! Back before the internet that’s almost all you had to go by when trying to find unique entertaining music. For me the more color the better but a simple dark B&W cover is enough to grab me as well if it has a cool image.
    I love early Human League! My fave being Travelogue. You’re right it was more cold synth and experimentation. Wow that Husker Du LP is a stark and effective image for sure Quite dark!
    Man I have been on the hunt for that John Foxx LP forever! In fact I showed an Ultravox album in my last video I dig the John Foxx era of UV. Doesn’t that JF album have He’s a liquid? Just steely cool synth action Very good!
    Looking at the BauHaus album, isn’t that a drum cymbal that’s being held up? I’m torn between that and a record Cool cover tho! Great thread entry Brian! Peace ✌️👽

      Hey Brian, Yes, that John Foxx album does have He's A Liquid! What a great track. Another person pointed out that that is, in fact, a cymbal of the cover of the Bauhaus record! I really had to question my grip on reality after not having recognized that! I mean, it seems so obvious now 😳

    Hey Brian, you get Vinylarium points for making me think. I like that. Question I posed to myself: "What is your preferred artistic medium when it comes to album cover art? Photos? Illustrations? Paintings? A combination? Abstract? What about fonts and typeface? I know, for starters, I dislike albums that do not have the band and album name on the front cover. I don't want to have to read the spine or take the record out. I want that on the cover. As for the art: I think I prefer bright colors and lean more towards paintings or vibrant illustrations; Mark Wilkinson (Marillion, some Judas Priest) is a definite favorite. Geoffrey Gillespie's (Warlock artist) fantasy art is another that comes to mind. If a phot is used I think I'd prefer it to be a picture of the band instead of some obscure photo that is art for art's sake. What does an old tire in a field by a large flower pot have to do with the music of Tina Turner? Whay would she "Ok" that? Thankfully, I made that scenario up....but weirder things have happened on album covers. Anyway, I liked your choices. Good stuff indeed.

    • @EmbryonicRobot
      @EmbryonicRobot  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is a big list of questions! I think I can make an exception for albums with no band name on the cover, or maybe that is just for bands that I appreciate 🤣 That's a tough one. As I age, I realize that I hate fonts that are hard to read. I also wondered about record company interference. I am sure some bands may not even have any say, or maybe I am totally wrong on that 🙂

      @rickandrecords หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EmbryonicRobot Yes, heavy metal band fonts can be ridiculous. I do appreciate amusing covers regardless of how they’re done. The little kid with the bee costume on the cover of the Blond Melon comes to mind or some of the photos in and on albums by The Who.
