Brian, nice response to Glen's tag. I still love CDs, but try to stay away from collecting them, though I know of many solo piano classical albums that are only available on CD, mostly more modern composers that I would like to have. I am not having much luck remembering my first CD and CD player. Thanks, Chris
nice stuff brian. funny thing i got my CD player around same time (Dec 1987) and like you I had bought a few CDs before I got it. interesting package on that Tool album with the stereoscopic glasses. will give deer hunter a listen.
Hi Steve, Looks like 1987 was the year of the CD player! I am hoping they will re-release that Tool album on vinyl with even bigger 3D images 🙂 I guess I can hope ...
As always a fascinating video Brian! I bought HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED and CHEAP THRILLS on compact disc sometime in the late eighties but didn"t buy a player until the early nineties a YAMAHA which still works perfectly. I detest the jewel boxes and LOVE Digipaks....my thrill is to get Classical on vinyl and CD from charity shops in the 2- 3 AU $ price range...vinyl is often a bit "beat" but I manage to score excellent condition CDs on a pretty regular basis!
Excellent response Brian. This is a fun tag. CDs don't get any respect. That's plenty of Cohen CDs. I have that Tool CD too. I love popping that in stoned.
I've had so many nightmare experiences wrecking CD booklets while trying to squeeze them back into the jewel case. Last year I junked hundreds of cases and now have probably two thirds of my CD collection in little plastic slipcases which works great for me. That Tool CD case with the 3D glasses is fantastic. I just listened to 'Discipline' by Crim the other night, in fact they're on my list for next year as I really only now a handful of their records. CDs are still cool.💿
Hi James, Yes, CDs are still cool! A friend of mine also discarded his cases, but he did it almost 30 years ago. I guess he was ahead of the curve 🙂 I am not sure I ready to do that, but I guess it is an option.
“There’s only 15 questions here”…”My God, I drew a blank on that”…”I remember moving. I knew that I moved a CD player with me”..Very interesting procurement strategy of buying the compact disc ahead of a CD player. I wish you’d expanded on that strategy. Lowest Of The Low are playing in Buffalo right after Christmas. I’m in agreement on the paper/cardboard complaint of the center plastic breaking. “I had to host a sort of pseudo work function. Someone told me the music was giving her a headache”…”I have a difficult time with favorite bands”…Velvet Underground were included. John Cale would approve of this video. If I knew how to photoshop, I would put you in the booth with Leonard and the ladies on the cover of Death Of A Ladies Man! That would make a great T shirt. ✌️
I should have mentioned that I have some of those Japanese CD cases that look like mini LPs with an inner sleeve. Those don't irritate me too much and, because they are thin, they take up far less shelf space, which would probably be good for all of us!
I think I like the digipacks better than the standard cases, they do seem to stand out a bit more and are better when it comes to displaying the artwork. But those teeth...I hate those because they never last. Wow, nice King Crimson CD there, I have never seen that particular one, but I know they put out a lot of samplers, live albums, different versions back in the 90's. That Steve Reich looks very interesting, I like the looks of that one. Very nice Art Tatum set, what a beautiful collection that one is. That's a really nice VU box set too. That's quite an impressive amount of Leonard Cohen albums you have. I haven't heard that Dear Hunter album yet, but I've been wanting to, I just haven 't run across it yet. I always have a hard time remembering his name too, but it's Casey Crescenzo. I always get the spelling and the pronunciation wrong on his name, because it almost looks Italian, but it's not quite the spelling you would expect. But what a composer! Love his music. Okay, now I have to add another tag grrr. I still want to do Sam's Americana tag and now this one. Plus I'll be doing the official tag, but I'm waiting until after Christmas for that one. Anyway, great response!
You might enjoy the Steve Reich album. It's a true favourite of mine. That was the other Deerhunter (the one word Deerhunter) with Bradford Cox. 🙂 It is so confusing. They should really have chosen better names. I haven't heard The Deer Hunter, yet. I am going to pass on the Americana tag, because I don't have enough Americana to pull it off. I remember his tag video from last year and my collection in that area has not moved!
@EmbryonicRobot I'm not as familiar with Deerhunter but I have heard them. The other one is spelled Dear Hunter, but it's still confusing. What's even more confusing is Dear Hunter has a newer album that I haven't heard and I'm not even sure what's on the cover. So I just assumed it was the one I was more familiar with.
I forgot that not only is this holiday time it's also the time a billion "official" tags. Also this is why you are the High Priest of Threads/Tags/Comp's. You had CD's before you had a CD player? That's just weird man. Digipaks are shit. Once the teeth break you're stuffed. Slide in pockets 🤦♂Steve Reich is even better on vinyl 😂I don't believe I knew that you liked Tool. 64 CD's of Lenny!!! My feedback is Deerhunter Halcyon Digest is excellent & even better on vinyl ha! I enjoyed your CD Vinyl Tag HP
Hey Brian. Great video! The original CD mastering was awful. I’m with you on the jewel case/ digipak question. That seems like a cool live album. I also have that Tool CD. Killer amount of Leonard Cohen. Cheers
Brill KC set. 👏🏻 I’ve often thought of getting it, but I have the individual CDs.

Very cool to see you're still on the cd train. I'll need to do this myself, though I won't be sure about a couple of these questions.
The CD train keeps on going, I guess. I would like to see your response 👍
Great video. Great topic.
Thanks, Pat! I enjoyed your video too 🙂
@EmbryonicRobot Thanks so much.

Hi Greg, I am sure Tool would sound extra special under those specific circumstances! 🙂🙂

Hey Brian! I'm still waiting (after 40 years) for someone to invent a good vessel to carry the CD. I have the same Tool CD. "bootleggy things" Cheers!

@@TCatsDeepVinylTraxx It's a complicated situation!

Hi Bobby, I agree that the early CDs were mastered very badly. I have a few stinkers 😔 Some people might say I have too much Leonard Cohen!
@ you can never have enough! 🎄😎
