I hope he doesn't feel it was all a waste of time - some of us took to heart what he had to say and are wiser for the experience. If only our leaders had have done the same.
The key is to take the reigns, and force our so-called "leaders" to be different. Together, we have power over them. Join with your neighbors, your friends, and others, and work to build a different world. Don't wait for some "leader" to do it. That's not going to get us an outcome we want.

We have been so blessed to have the wisdom and perspective of Professor Chomsky here at this critical moment in human evolution. If humans do not grow beyond our agreement to value greed and material wealth and the power over others as ultimate goals for individuals, organizations and nations, then we are doomed. All that needs to change is to simply flip the switch so that we value LIFE, all life on this planet, MORE than we value having power over others thru the manipulation of wealth and we will have chosen a different future for our world.
I have led a life of abundance even though for most of it I hovered near poverty. Understanding the difference between wants and needs is a good place to start but also understanding that every dollar you spend is a vote for something and that it is worth the effort to find out who is getting your money. The art of the give away, or give back pays dividends that are not measurable by dollars and cents.
I'm totally with you on this. Unfortunately, we are led by narcissists and psychopaths in the main, who delight in having the power to do most harm. Otherwise there's no reasoning to them at all. Greed doesn't even cover it as once they get fed up with making money then power over others tends to come next so that they can get their entertainment from seeing others suffer. :(

@@ItsAWonder-jz1nd Hi there and thanks for adding your valid perspective. I would ask this of any collective: when did the voices and actions of the individuals become the “we” of this collective? And, does the “we” of this collective accurately represent the values of the individuals within its circle? One can use the word “we” to represent so much…. The “we” of friendship, lovers, family, village, state, national or humanity itself. You are correct in saying that conversely “We” (usually) does not accurately reflect the values and actions of any of the single individuals within that circle. This is why how societies evolve does depend on the actions and values that the collective of that group agrees to….either by force, or by persuasion or by default/apathy.

Hardly extinction though. Crops will still be able to grow. Conditions will just get harsher, there will be an expansion of deserts, the strip of habitable land will decrease. Nice pretty words but peacefulness is the opposite of what the lower classes should be practicing When have we not been peaceful, docile, and complacent with this system? When has that ever helped?
@littlebugsmith Not letting circumstances distract from our civility with the desire for peacefulness in our world. I am not in any way suggesting that we should be complacent, docile, or any kind of lacking of motivation and determination. INDIVISIBLE, is a good idea for learning to get some of the governmental officials motivated to be present as true representational electioned participants. Several books for our well-being and knowledge of what is going on are, " On TYRANNY by Timothy Snyder and his newest book is On FREEDOM " Robin Wall Kimmerer wrote a very interesting book about this situation and an alternative point that is fulfilling our needs for our society to function and to change in a healthy and creative way. " THE SERVICE BERRY " ( Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World) ,it is a process of learning to live together harmoniously with creativity and support for all people equally with generosity of heart and mind that is evolving into a more humane and compassionately nurturing society. Don't let the Devil steal your joy! We all have many choices in our lives. Each moment is a new beginning. Instead of just being hopeless and not realizing that the past injustices, hatreds, cruelties re barbaric displays of ignorance and arrogance with prejudices that are generational animosities. Living with the learning from the past craziness of wars and generational mistakes and ongoing struggles...we need to make decisions for our well-being, civility, our relationships with each other and the Earth ,NOW. DO THINGS THAT ARE BENEFICIAL FOR OUR LIVES WITH COMPASSION, PEACE, JOY, LOVING KINDNESS AND CARING. These different blessings are our strength as humane citizens of this world. It's time to get vocal, busy and investing in our lives together with our own individual actions, intentions, attitudes and beliefs. Enough of the constant giving up and taking the position of helplessness and expecting someone else to make decisions for our sovereignty and our success as a species that is evolving and is learning to live without losing our grounding and our creativity and unity in this process. Plant a garden for your needs and the needs of others. Volunteers are doing great things that matter in our recovery process. We can even imagine how much it will be if we could just be present with a smile and a kind greeting to people who are not known and are just passing by daily. Remember that alot of people who are living in poverty are not crazy dangerous individuals, extend your generosity to participate in their lives with compassion and respect. Take care of yourself and the environment with elimination of toxic things that you purchase and use in your own life. Boycott the corporations that are supporting the hype and the various factors that are pollinating our lives and our planet. Laziness and complacency are not doing anything for our survival and our success as healthy and sane people. I appreciate your comment and for sharing your thoughts and We are in this together with our own individual interests, and our pretty words are not lacking initiatives and resolutions for the well-being of life unfolding in the mystery moment by moment. We are each a different piece of the same puzzle...we need to realize the importance of sharing our own solutions and support for the opportunity to experience peace and prosperity with integrity and honesty.

I don't think it's defeatist to concede that the rise of intelligence in our species was not necessarily a long term, sustainable, good. I think conflict within other animal species is also a fact, but it's limited in it's scope due to a subtle lack of the sort of intelligence possessed by us. That difference is likely small, but also crucial. Higher intelligence might not be what humans currently have. We might be clever, but only in a halfway sense, and therein lies the fatal flaw that is bringing with it, the short arc of humanity (and, more unfortunately, the end of many other life forms along with us). I can no longer maintain even the slimmest hope for the future of the human race. I've tried, but it seems disingenuous to keep trying.

The world owes unending gratitude to this man.
history shows, that we have to experience the suffering before we are willing to change. therefor human society is a dead end. we won't make it through our technological adolescence I'm afraid.
We will, the better question is can we defeat the communists and their lies for future generations?
its really hard to believe that humanity will end though. First of all, assuming there is no large scale geoengineering which is a big if. But if that doesn't happen and we somehow blindly stumble into warming with no plans, which is possible given how incompetent our leaders are, even then it will just be a loss of billions of lives. Hardly extinction though. Crops will still be able to grow. Conditions will just get harsher, there will be an expansion of deserts, the strip of habitable land will decrease. Wars will be fought, and out of the dust of that we'll have a new civilization which will continue the technological advancements of the previous one.
@@radscorpion8I don’t think it’s the end either. There will definitely be a lot of suffering-out of the ashes a new society that understands we are one human family.
It’s human nature to have to feel the consequences before understanding.
Our job now as light workers to do what we can to alleviate human suffering.
@@radscorpion8 It's the darkest before the dawn. The current system must fall apart first. More addiction. More mental illness. More criminal behavior on the small and large scale. Everything has to go. Nations must collapse and eventually the giants will fall. Those that know how to work together will make the new world. As a spiritual humanitarian I believe this but I'm not so naive to believe that first it will get really, really rough.
I call this time in history "Caught In The Great Filter" which alludes to a possible answer to the Fermi Paradox, which is that intelligent life somehow burns out before becoming space colonizing. A filtering out of civilizations. The Great Filter.

We live in an economy that is driven by scarcity. Around that we have built a system that is enforced by the threat of violence. It is not something that will change unless we start creating an economy that is driven by abundance (for which we have the technology and knowledge to do so nowadays).
It would radically change the way how we work and maybe more importantly the reason why we work.
Stay healthy out there everyone ❤
Look at the venus project and the zeitgeist movement
The "econemie" is not "driven" "by" scarcity, but SCARCITY IS A NECESSARY CONDITION OF LIFE. Without it, NO "evolution" would have ever been possible.
More like organized scarcity 🤬
I have existed as a node in the abundance economy since I first got into business for myself at age thirteen. The art of the give away or the give back as some people call it requires awareness, intellectual ability and a well developed sense of compassion. When you invest your life force in making things better for others, it rewards you in unconventional ways.
Thank you so much Noam Chomsky. Thank you for being such a bright lighthouse in this stormy winternight ocean of collapse of the rational discourse.
I see our demise happening right in front of me. Sadly all creatures must suffer. Our selfishness will prevent change for the better. Rip humans.
I love the idea of a Collapse-Acceptant community. This is a great wave that has been building for a long time, and there isn't any stopping it. At this point, all we can do is help where we can in our little circles, and help in bigger circles if we are able. Just, stay alive as long as we are able so that we may be of service as much as possible to those who are terrified and hungry, lonely and suffering. In those final throes, to know that love won in the end, in the small, "meaningless" life, love won....what better end, i ask you?
If there were many more like you holding these beliefs, we would not be in the situation we are in.
Yes, indeed, remaining a decent and caring human being for as long as possible. It may be all that is left.

Just so sad for my kids. They are in their twenties. I can’t imagine them having a good future or what that’s even going to look like. I know optimists who say, “It’s going to get worse before it gets better,” but I don’t see “the better” coming.
We've had so many chances to avert what Chomsky just said, and has been saying, for nearly his entire life. Bernie Sanders is another one. But, the sickness of unquenchable greed and avarice is just too powerful of a narcotic to cure, apparently. Drug addicts know their addiction is killing them. They are fully aware of that, but, they usually keep going....
You are totally right. Imagine how our world would be if cats had the intelligence to use firearms, for example. Our smarts will kill us.
