We know so much more than we did a mere century ago, what we do with that insight has yet to be determined. I'm going to continue to teach people how to make and use biochar, simultaneously sequestering carbon for geologic time, but more importantly, increasing soil's resistance to climate destabilization.

This feels like this great man is finally signing off on his lifetime of trying to educate us and awaken us from our worst selves. A despotism may almost be defined as a tired democracy. As fatigue falls on a community, the citizens are less inclined for that eternal vigilance which has truly been called the price of liberty; and they prefer to arm only one single sentinel to watch the city while they sleep.” ― G.K. The reason the Democrats are so disappointing is that they have not held the power. The Republicans have been ascendant and have thoroughly controlled the country and the only Democrats allowed to have power are those that maintain the status quo. You should be angry at the Republicans. It’s no coincidence that the Republicans have gotten every major policy they wanted in the last 44 years. The Democrats don’t fight back because they can’t.

@@RevenantScholarwell the situation in Gaza is about to get worse. Trump said Israel can do whatever it wants. Personally it seems to me that the folks from the Middle East here in Michigan just didn’t want a woman in charge and used Gaza as an excuse. Now here Trump has assembled Israelis to advise on the situation in Gaza. Where did the protestors go? I haven’t heard a peep since the election, if they truly cared they would be screaming at Trump. Again they used that as an excuse to not elect a woman. This country is a sad existence of a nation, this is what happens when most people are stupid and have the attention span of 5 seconds or less. They clearly didn’t give a shit that Trump violated women and became a convicted felon. Trump was right, he said he could kill someone on fifth Avenue in nyc and no one would do anything to him. Idiocracy is the future, except the people will be too stupid. I give it less than 100 years. I’m 40 now, I doubt I’ll make it to 65 with the state of things.

We have been so blessed to have the wisdom and perspective of Professor Chomsky here at this critical moment in human evolution. If humans do not grow beyond our agreement to value greed and material wealth and the power over others as ultimate goals for individuals, organizations and nations, then we are doomed. All that needs to change is to simply flip the switch so that we value LIFE, all life on this planet, MORE than we value having power over others thru the manipulation of wealth and we will have chosen a different future for our world.

I have led a life of abundance even though for most of it I hovered near poverty. Understanding the difference between wants and needs is a good place to start but also understanding that every dollar you spend is a vote for something and that it is worth the effort to find out who is getting your money. The art of the give away, or give back pays dividends that are not measurable by dollars and cents.

@@ItsAWonder-jz1nd Hi there and thanks for adding your valid perspective. I would ask this of any collective: when did the voices and actions of the individuals become the “we” of this collective? And, does the “we” of this collective accurately represent the values of the individuals within its circle? One can use the word “we” to represent so much…. The “we” of friendship, lovers, family, village, state, national or humanity itself. You are correct in saying that conversely “We” (usually) does not accurately reflect the values and actions of any of the single individuals within that circle. This is why how societies evolve does depend on the actions and values that the collective of that group agrees to….either by force, or by persuasion or by default/apathy.

Just, stay alive as long as we are able so that we may be of service as much as possible to those who are terrified and hungry, lonely and suffering. INDIVISIBLE, is a good idea for learning to get some of the governmental officials motivated to be present as true representational electioned participants.
Several books for our well-being and knowledge of what is going on are, " On TYRANNY by Timothy Snyder and his newest book is On FREEDOM "
Robin Wall Kimmerer wrote a very interesting book about this situation and an alternative point that is fulfilling our needs for our society to function and to change in a healthy and creative way.
" THE SERVICE BERRY " ( Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World) ,it is a process of learning to live together harmoniously with creativity and support for all people equally with generosity of heart and mind that is evolving into a more humane and compassionately nurturing society.
Don't let the Devil steal your joy! We all have many choices in our lives. Each moment is a new beginning.
Instead of just being hopeless and not realizing that the past injustices, hatreds, cruelties re barbaric displays of ignorance and arrogance with prejudices that are generational animosities.
Living with the learning from the past craziness of wars and generational mistakes and ongoing struggles...we need to make decisions for our well-being, civility, our relationships with each other and the Earth ,NOW.
DO THINGS THAT ARE BENEFICIAL FOR OUR LIVES WITH COMPASSION, PEACE, JOY, LOVING KINDNESS AND CARING.
These different blessings are our strength as humane citizens of this world.
It's time to get vocal, busy and investing in our lives together with our own individual actions, intentions, attitudes and beliefs.
Enough of the constant giving up and taking the position of helplessness and expecting someone else to make decisions for our sovereignty and our success as a species that is evolving and is learning to live without losing our grounding and our creativity and unity in this process.
Plant a garden for your needs and the needs of others. Volunteers are doing great things that matter in our recovery process.
We can even imagine how much it will be if we could just be present with a smile and a kind greeting to people who are not known and are just passing by daily.
Remember that alot of people who are living in poverty are not crazy dangerous individuals, extend your generosity to participate in their lives with compassion and respect.
Take care of yourself and the environment with elimination of toxic things that you purchase and use in your own life.
Boycott the corporations that are supporting the hype and the various factors that are pollinating our lives and our planet.
Laziness and complacency are not doing anything for our survival and our success as healthy and sane people.
I appreciate your comment and for sharing your thoughts and We are in this together with our own individual interests, and our pretty words are not lacking initiatives and resolutions for the well-being of life unfolding in the mystery moment by moment.

I don't think it's defeatist to concede that the rise of intelligence in our species was not necessarily a long term, sustainable, good. I think conflict within other animal species is also a fact, but it's limited in it's scope due to a subtle lack of the sort of intelligence possessed by us. That difference is likely small, but also crucial. Higher intelligence might not be what humans currently have. We might be clever, but only in a halfway sense, and therein lies the fatal flaw that is bringing with it, the short arc of humanity (and, more unfortunately, the end of many other life forms along with us). I can no longer maintain even the slimmest hope for the future of the human race. I've tried, but it seems disingenuous to keep trying. We've had so many chances to avert what Chomsky just said, and has been saying, for nearly his entire life. Bernie Sanders is another one. But, the sickness of unquenchable greed and avarice is just too powerful of a narcotic to cure, apparently. Drug addicts know their addiction is killing them. They are fully aware of that, but, they usually keep going....

You are totally right. Imagine how our world would be if cats had the intelligence to use firearms, for example. Our smarts will kill us.
